It's safe to say that the crew of the good ship Firebox have played with a lot of toys in their time. Some of them still metaphorically lob those toys out of their prams (no names mentioned). So for the common consensus among those people to be that Mini-Z Racers are the best non-specialist radio controlled cars they've ever played with is pretty high praise indeed. All the plaudits are warranted, mind you - these really are the finest toys of their type in the world today.
The quality and performance of Mini-Z Racers is reflected in their price, but they're worth every penny; this is no mere toy. Mini-Z Racers are precision radio controlled cars from Kyosho of Japan, one of the best r/c vehicle makers in a country that knows its stuff when it comes to toys. Each model has fully proportional steering, two-wheel drive (forward and reverse) and a sophisticated suspension system.
Oh, they go fast too. Tremendously fast, in fact, yet they're fully manoeuvrable at even the highest speeds. The superb handset receiver has much to do with that. A trigger is used to control the speed, but the steering is operated by a wheel on the side of the handset. Once you've got the hang of it, the wheel allows total control over the tiny automobiles.
However, despite the high-end spec of the Mini-Z, you won't need to spend an entire Sunday with a soldering iron to put it together. A couple of things need the working end of a Phillips screwdriver applied to them, but the rest of the assembly is simply a question of clicking and clipping parts into place before covering all of the clever bits with the splendidly accurate chassis. The bodywork on these things is superb; you just don't get detail like this in similar-sized radio controlled vehicles. In a nutshell - there's nothing faster, better designed, more accurately reproduced or just plain cool at this size as a Mini-Z Racer.
