If you've ever wondered why Firebox isnÂ’t rammed to the rafters with DVD players, the answer is really quite simple: we couldn't find any! Well, we couldn't find any that conformed to our stringent criteria of quality, value and total feature-overload. In fact, we were just about to abandon all hope when one of our intrepid (and somewhat dishevelled) buyers recently arrived at our secret, subterranean HQ brandishing the amazing Kiiro X5 DVD Player.

Yes film fans, this state of the art little beauty leaves other DVD players in the dust and is abso-digi-lutely bursting with brilliant features.

For starters, connectivity is par excellence; the Kiiro's back panel is rammed with connectors for RGB scart, SVideo, Composite Video, 6 channel Decoder DTS and Dolby Digital or output Digital Bitstream Audio via optical or coaxial. No, we're not completely sure what it all means either; suffice it to say if you've got the plug, the Kiiro's got somewhere to put it.

Of course, it goes without saying that the Kiiro X5 is multi region. But there's more; this splendid little powerhouse utilises advanced auto region sensing technology (R1 to R6), which means you don't have to manually change the region settings each time you play a foreign disc.

Thanks to its Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS audio decoders the sound quality is quite staggering. Handy, as the X5 also supports CD, MP3 files, VCD2.0, 3.0 and SVCD. In fact, there's FA this won't play.

Equipped with an impressive 32x forward/reverse, slo-mo, still frame, plus 4x zoom and pan, the X5 is ideal for spotting movie goofs. And we're not just talking Imperial Stormtrooper-bashes-his-head-on-doorframe-type blunders. The X5 is so powerful you'll easily spot the sports car in Ben Hur, the cameraman reflected in the spoon in The Matrix, not to mention the plethora of wristwatches in Braveheart. (We really should get out more).

With all these features, you'd be forgiven for thinking that the X5 is some humungous great beast. But no, it measures a compact and convenient 430x55x300mm.

So there you have it. If you don't immediately fall in love with this marvel of modern technology we promise to eat our entire collection of Bucks Fizz albums. (We probably should anyway; one thing the X5 doesn't play is vinyl.)
