  • Will teach you the virtues of patience
  • Can you believe they used to put lit candles on them? Madness

The Christmas tree is the focal point of most people's Christmases. It's got an aura about it. It's the hearty festive combo of baubles, tinsel and lighting. It's the hiding and finding of the presents. It's lifting up little Billy to crookedly jam a star on top.

Let's be brutally honest for a moment – hoovering up pine needles is a necessary and heart-warming part of Christmas. Plastic trees are just awful. No matter how good they are they will never be a patch on the real thing, and worse still you're outright denying yourself the delicious smell of Christmas. Garden centres and road-side stalls don't make our lives any easier with their withered and bedraggled offerings. You need to grow your own.

This kit comes with everything you need to do just that. Think of it as a little bit like a Christmas Cake. You diligently follow a recipe but it's very much your creation – you nourish and feed it to ultimately produce something beautiful. (Please don't water your seeds with brandy, it stinks and will certainly kill them).

You don't want a scraggly louse of a tree do you? If Saint Nick sees that when he comes down the chimney it'll be coal for the lot o' yer. You want a proud bushy beast to rally around, and the only way to ensure this is to grow and nurture your very own.
