A robotic RC dragonfly sounds like the kind of thing you might find in a dodgy sci-fi movie starring him out of Magnum. But thanks to the boffins behind Robosapien it's now a reality!
The Flytech Dragonfly is the world's first wing-flapping RC robot. Don't ask why, just hurry up and buy because gadget-loving entomology fans (of course they exist!) are going to get in a right flap as soon as they witness this robo-insect's freakishly realistic fluttering. It even flies indoors and outside - no stagnant pond required.
Just like the real thing the ultra-cool Dragonfly looks like it means business: large 'abdomen', massive eyes, membranous wings; indeed in terms of looking mean these suckers are the Boba Fetts of the insect world. Sort of.
You control the rechargeable Dragonfly via a sleek twin-channel transmitter/charging unit - left stick to fly, right stick to steer. There are also two control modes, beginner and advanced - handy for those of you who've never flown a robotic insect. (That'll be everyone then).
But what's it like to fly? Simply hand-launch the Dragonfly and before you can say 'invertebrate zoology' you'll have this supremely manoeuvrable triumph of flapping aerodynamics spinning, diving and even hovering. You won't believe your eyes! Don't worry about crashing - the Dragonfly's high-flex crash-resistant structure makes it impervious to all manner of prangs. That said, it is extremely light so keep it away from anyone armed with a rolled-up newspaper.
Glowing LED eyes
As if to add to its eerie insect-like aura, the Dragonfly has glowing LED eyes that alert you to its status by blinking, pulsing or shining. It's enough to scare the cat senseless and have housemates calling pest control. We really can't overstate quite how jaw-droppingly impressive this magnificent flying machine is. It even comes with a spare set of wings, a replacement tail propeller, & a tail ribbon for novice fliers.
