Quoridor
A maze-ingly entertaining board game
Sorry, this product is not available.
Quoridor is an absolutely brilliant wooden board game. And no, you haven't just accidentally clicked on to Dullanorak.com. You're still looking at Firebox, everyone's favourite purveyor of all things inspirational, quirky and downright fun. So what on Earth are we playing at selling a game like Quoridor? After all, some board games have a nasty habit of making players, er, bored. And Quoridor does sound a bit like a character from Middle Earth, doesn't it.
Well we have to admit, we weren't exactly performing cartwheels of excitement when we first heard about this game. But then we discovered it had been winning awards left, right and centre. Across the pond, Quoridor has already shot into Mensa's top five and it has also won Game of the Year. Some accolade.
So why all the fuss? Well, having played Quoridor solidly for the past few weeks, we can honestly say it's a classic-in-the-making, and it is so addictive you'll be dreaming about pawns, squares and fences every time you blink.
The basic premise of Quoridor is to get your pawn to the opposite side of an 81 square board before your opponent. The pawns are moved one square at a time, vertically or horizontally, forwards or backwards. The twist is, players can also choose to put up fences (10 per player) in order to block their opponent's progress. This leads to all kinds of maze-based shenanigans, as players attempt to box each other in, jump over each other and negotiate their way out of trouble. It's a bit like British Bulldog in slo-mo with a few barriers thrown in for good measure. As Bruce Forsythe used to say: 'That's all there is to it.'
Quoridor is simple to play but difficult to master. And because each game only lasts around 10-15 minutes, it's great for a quick fix of tactical-based fun. Best of all, if you order yours pronto you can impress onlookers as you stroke your chin and furrow your brow, playing a brilliantly entertaining game that no one else understands. Hurry though, because before long the whole world will go Quoridor crazy. (2-4 players).

This game is really easy to learn, and play. Which is kinda the problem really - it's too simple, I got bored with it. There is just not enough to it, stategy is similar to chess, all you can do is either move one square or place a board. This one is being relegated to the cupboard I think....Pete, South London - 8th January 2007
Brilliant Game. My sister bought this for my mum and her boyfriend as a christmas present. Even after several (ahem) glasses of champagne we could still work it out pretty easily. Its really fun to play with 3 other people, especially when three of you are plotting to bring the other player down (bwahaha)
Also it was great ordering from Firebox. It arrived the very next day, just a few days before christmas! I would highly recommend using Firebox for all your present needs. I sure will!Emily, London - 6th January 2006
Simply brilliant!David Newman, Essex - 29th November 2005
Brilliant!! One of the best board games ever, really simple to learn very basic rules with so many twists and turns you never get bored. We took it on holiday with us and taking it to the hotel bar at night was great - everybody wanted to play and it got everybody talking even the Turkish staff understood the rules and they didn't speak English. It really is a deviously simple game that sucks you in and makes you think you can win every time but just one move by your opponent throws off your entire stratagy. Can't praise it enough, also firebox have a great service, pleased all round with my shopping experiance here - I will be back.Rose Dean, Lancashire - 3rd August 2005

I throughly recommend this game. I've only had it a few days but its already caused a couple of fights with my girlfriend. She hates losing. I reckon 4 way game will add another dimension.wil, brighton - 7th January 2005
Fantastic game, really simple, but endlessly fascinating and a real challenge.
I first spent a short time explaining the rules to my daughters. They enjoyed a couple of practice games. After that we enjoyed some games where I was beating them hands down. After a while I was fighting out closely won games, then the tide turned and I started losing the odd game, next I lost more games than I won, finally I ended up getting thrashed out of sight. After that I feigned injury or took to hiding whenever one of them picked up the box, or declared the car needed fettling or something.
A really involving game, it's made the kids think, it's got them away from the TV, and we've had hours of fun playing the game.
I am really impressed with Quoridor and am already boring my work colleagues with endless details of the games we've played so far.Robin Laws, Bradford - 5th January 2005
