Aurora Colour Changing Clock
Colourful bedtime companion
Sorry, this product is not available.
Chances are you've got a love hate relationship with your alarm clock. Because let's be honest, being abruptly stirred from your slumber by a shrill, insentient lump of circuitry is simply not natural. Besides, in most cases, alarm clocks are there to remind us that it's time to wakey wakey, rise and do a day's work. Bleurgh!
And the only reason we use them when we're not working is to remind us that we've got to get up and do something really important - like collect the car before it gets a ticket or watch SpongeBob Squarepants before the Saturday morning hangover really kicks in.
All of which is why we're slightly cautious when it comes to selling alarm clocks. For us, they have to possess something very special to elevate them above their status of annoying but necessary everyday accessories. Thankfully the mesmerising Aurora Colour Changing Clock is more than a mere alarm clock; it's an inspired, chameleon-like block of spellbinding design genius.
Why? Well, this über-funky clock is encased in gorgeously tactile translucent rubber that quietly changes colour (The Touch lights up initially for 30 seconds) on the hour, every hour. The ethereal glow that emanates from the Aurora is truly hypnotising and we guarantee you'll be lying there with baited breath waiting for the next colour change to gently bathe your bedside table in a glorious new shade of whatever (a highly relaxing experience in itself). This smart cube of mood lighting can be set to cycle through its 12 colour variations by glowing one colour per hour, or through a preset lighting sequence. The choice is yours. A gentle tap is all it takes to turn the light show off.

The Aurora's bold, backlit LCD screen means you won't be squinting to tell the time at 3a.m., and you shouldn't even be unduly irritated by its alarm, as the soporific effect of its mesmerising glow will ensure you always get a good night's sleep. Nighty night!

Love this clock because of the pretty colours. It's also great cuz if I wake up in the middle of the night and want to know how long I have left before I need to wake up I don't need to try hard to get my eyes to work to read the time because I've just woken up, I can tell by the colour what time it roughly is. The only downside is that the clock runs slow for some odd reason (powered from mains so it's not even a low battery) every month the clock runs an extra minute behind which is kind of annoying to keep resetting.Oooh Pretty Rainbows, London - 6th March 2012
This is actually a question, hope its answered before its too late for Christmas!. . I was going to get this for a child as a night light... I wondered. . With the mains version, when it is on permanent nightlight, does touching it turn the light off? So the kid can turn it on and off themself?Craig, London - 17th December 2011
Firebox says: Hi Craig, in the permanent mode the light just stays on, but the kid would be able to turn it to touch mode easily enough by just flicking the switch on the bottom. Then they could just tap the top to get the light on, and if they wanted to put it back on permanent mode, they could flick the switch on the bottom back again. I hope this helps!
I bought the Aurora Colour Changing Clock back in 2005 and it has been faithfully waking me each morning ever since. However, in recent months the coating on the sides and top of the clock has started to degrade and feels sticky. I'm really sad that my little clock appears to be dying. Is there anything I can treat it with to stop this happening? It's a little bit worrying that the coating appears to be unstable in this manner - is it chemically safe?Harriet, Warwickshire - 11th December 2011
Firebox says: Hi Harriet, this is most likely wear and tear after 6/7 years use. Plastics will generally fade and be worn down, we can assure you that the plastic is safe. Please do drop us an email should you wish to discuss further (info@firebox.com).
The website shows am/pm indicator. Mine only seems to have 24hr only. How can I change it? Otherwise perfect little clock and great service form Firebox as always.Dave Edwards, Kent - 16th November 2011
Firebox says: Hi Dave, whilst changing the hour simply keep moving the clock forward and it will switch between 12 and 24 hr
I love this clock! I had one for a couple of years and it was great! By far the best alarm clock i've ever had! But sadly I think I must have binned it accidentally while having a clean out :( But they're definitely worth the money so I will probably just buy another one soon :D Thanks for the great buy once again Firebox :D xx.Alice, Scunthorpe - 7th November 2011
How do you change the cell battery?Shil, United Kingdom - 15th September 2011
Now this is not a review. . More of a question... I am a very deep sleeper and I have read this all through and read most of the reviews and none says if it is loud or not? Out of 10 how loud is it? Thank you, Naomi xxx.Naomi, On The Planet Earth! - 5th July 2011
Firebox says: We'd probably rank it about a 6 1/2 - 7, it's not super loud but can be adjusted. If you're looking for something REALLY loud, give this a shot: http://www.firebox.com/product/1896/Sonic-Bomb-Alarm-Clock
Hi,
I just got it (the mains one) and I do love it. However I have a question - on your website it says - The Touch lights up initially for 30 seconds on the hour, every hour.
I was wondering - what setting does this happen in? and also- does it still do this if I am using it on batteries?
As - I currently have it on batteries (not the mains) and on the ON setting - but it only glows when I tap it, and not automatically on the hour.
Thanks for your help !Madhvi, London - 30th May 2011
It's OK for the money. Clock and alarm work and it duly lights up when touched, but it's always the same colour! It is useful though, running off batteries and time keeping is accurate. 3 stars.Cathryn, Southend On Sea - 26th April 2011
I have had this clock for over two years now, Xmas present from my brother in a firebox mystery box! Ohh...ahhh! It looks fab and I have never had any problems with it. It's a lovely little lamp of colour and a easily readable clock. I love that it runs off batteries.... No messy wires and I have so far not changed the batteries! Fantastic little gadget!Helena, Hull - 23rd March 2011

The Touch Aurora Clock is battery powered and therefore only glows once you tap it. The Nightlight Aurora Clock is mains powered and continuously glows, changing colour on the hour.
