As pioneers of the retro plug-n-play revolution, we're proud to present the followup to our best-selling Namco 5-in-1 Classics joystick - now featuring the all-time classics Ms Pac-man and Pole Position. As in the movies, gaming sequels are rarely better than the original - however Ms Pac-man (the "Empire Strikes Back" of the video game world) holds the impressive record of being the most successful American arcade game ever - selling 115,000 units stateside versus the original Pac-Man's 100,000.

"So why was Ms. Pac-man more popular than the original?" you may ask. Well, although the gameplay is the same maze-based chase, Ms. Pac-man features four different mazes rather than the single maze in the original game. The computer-controlled ghosts in the original game followed pre-programmed paths and so by running in certain patterns, players were able to confuse them and play nearly indefinitely. There are no such patterns to fool the ghosts in Ms. Pac-man.

Firebox regulars should know the drill by now - as with our other popular self-contained games machines, the Namco Classics II plugs directly into your TV via handy AV cables. Despite it's diminutive size, the Namco features an excellent, highly grippable joystick and a sturdy button which will endure no end of frantic mashing - this baby is built to last!

Also new to the Namco II is the steering mechanism used for the arcade classic Pole Position: rather than pull the joystick left and right to guide your vehicle, the joystick itself twists (with a satisfying resistance), allowing you super-accurate control of your car as it tears around the track.

"What - you didn't think all little yellow pill- shaped characters were male, did you? A little-known fact is that Ms Pac-Man actually outsold its famous predecessor, and although the ghosties moved in set patterns in the original, their wanderings were random in this version. Plug this retro gaming console into your telly's video inputs and you'll find out what all the fuss was about."T3 - Dec '04

I bought this mainly for Xevious which I spent way too much money on as a kid but have played all the games in equal amounts. As far as I can tell the games just as they were in the arcade except for the fact that, in the arcade machines, 3 of the games played on a TV which was rotated by 90 degrees so as to have a longer vertical playing area. For Ms Pacman and Galaga there is no real gameplay change they just look chubby but for Xevious the result is that the baddies are shooting at you before you get to see them, this makes it a little harder than it should be but still very enjoyable. Nice sturdy construction for the unit although slight lack of clarity in the joystick makes it a little difficult to play ms Pacman if you're too ham-fisted - I found just nudching the stick in the desired direction then allowing stick to selfcenter between direction changes gave the best results for gaming. Shame these units can't save the high scores that would just finish them off 100%.
Overall you'd be hard pushed to find better entertainment than this for just £20.
PS. my wish list for a plugin Sinistar, Mr Do, Asteroids, Space Pilot and Spy Hunter - in fact I have to stop myself, I could go on and on...!Floss, Scotland - Jul '05
Stroll on !! Couldn't get my hair on when I started playing Xevious, identical to the old skool days, me and my mate Shelvey played this game for 18 hours non stop!! Nocturnal gaming for less than 25 quid!!Steven Mahony, Edgbaston, Birmingham - Jan '05
Having been brought up on Xevious at College during break time I was eager to try it out. Verdict - 100% awesome and true to the orginal. Plugs into AV sockets on TV, leaving your computer free. Would recommend putting controller on hard surface for best control and I look forward to lapping it just like the good old days. It's still getting the better of me but its only a matter of time and a few late nights ! Only bit I'd change - I'd give it the ability to save your score after it has been turned off. I love Ms. Pacman!! I was too young to play in the 80's but now I'm older, I love it & it's really addictive!! ;-) Buy it everyone!!Mary, London - Sep '04
Once you get the hang of the controls for Ms. Pac-man and Pole Position, this one plays like a charm (until I read the instructions, I thought my unit had some sort of malfunction). Definitely recommendable.Karsten Plesner, Copenhagen, Denmark - Aug '04
Roll back the years and play this simply stunning rendition of the original games. I was one of the top Pac Man gamers in 1982 (3,258,000 points) age 14 and I can vouch for this games addictive qualities. My mate played Xevious next to me and for those who haven't played it you're missing a treat.
Go back in time for £25 !!! Bargain.Jon Stoodley, Liverpool England - Aug '04
