Shinco Spare Batteries
Portable cinematic powerhouse

The history of movies is littered with monumental moments: the first 'talkie' back in 1927, the first Oscar ceremony in 1929, the groundbreaking animation in Disney's Fantasia and, of course, that bit in Commando when Arnie tells Bennett to "let off some steam" before impaling him on a ventilation pipe. Ah yes, movies are indeed magical.
Of course, one of the greatest things to happen to movies in recent years has been the advent of DVD. This wondrous format is now the platform of choice for serious film buffs everywhere, and the players themselves are getting smaller all the time. Trouble is, regardless of player size, you usually need an accompanying TV or computer monitor to actually watch your films on. For this reason, we've unearthed a range of portable DVD players that conform to the Firebox ethos of value for money, super sleek looks and amazing functionality. Firebox regulars will be aware of the award winning* 5" & 7" Shinco models we have been offering, well the range has recently been revamped and we now have 2 new stunners with which to dazzle and amaze!Barely bigger than a couple of DVD cases, the dumbfoundingly diminutive Shinco DVD players are truly the 'giants among pygmies' in terms of their portability. Boasting a 7" or 8" colour widescreen ActiveMatrix TFT screen, Dolby Digital output, external memory card slots and USB OTG* ( 8" & model ) and an embarrassment of features usually associated with the big boys, the ridiculously portable Shincos are a fabulous hour-cruncher on long journeys and are certain to cause consternation (not to mention envy) amongst fellow travellers.
But wait, there's more: these sleek, robust little movie houses also play a plethora of other formats, including DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DivX, Xvid, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3, JPEG and Kodak Picture CD. Please check the Shinco features section below for more info. For this price you'd think the manufacturers might be stingy with accessories, but no; each Shinco comes complete with a slick multi-function remote control, a car adapter, a high-capacity lithium battery, an AC adapter plus video and audio cables for hooking up to an external TV set should you so choose.
If that doesn't get you rifling through your DVD collection in anticipation, try this for size: Shincos also have multi language/angle/subtitle capability, zoom play (2x & 4x), programmable play and a built-in anti-shock system to deal with bumpy journeys. There are even two stereo headphone outputs so you and a friend can watch the lairiest, sweariest movies without disturbing anyone but yourselves. Even the 7" player features a quality widescreen 16:9 display setting it aside from other players at this end of the price spectrum.
In fact each member of the Shinco family has unique features. The 7" has the best specifications in its class and screen quality ( 400:1 contrast ratio ) is second to none.

The versatile 8" model can be used either laptop style or tablet style. The lid closes like a laptop so the delicate LCD screen is protected. The display also rotates through 180 ° then folds flat with the base, turning it into a tablet style player which is easier to use in the car.
...and the UK press seem to agree with us! Over the past year our exclusive Shinco DVD Players have been grabbing awards left right and centre from some of the most prestigious review magazines on the market, including "Best Buy" awards from T3 Magazine and Essential Hi-Fi and Home Cinema as well as winning 1st place both magazines' "Portable DVD Group Tests":

"The picture never becomes tiresome and you don't start wishing for a bigger screen after a few minutes of viewing, as you do with many other portables...Simply one of the best portable DVD players we've ever tested." (SDP-1250)What Home Cinema - Jun '06
"The little silver disc is still king for high-quality viewing." (SDP-1250)Stuff - May '06
"Overall, the Shinco SDP-1250 is an impressive machine. It's attractively styled, offers almost unbeatable connectivity and provides some of the best pictures we've watched on a portable DVD player. And at £300, it's a steal." Five out of 5 stars and Best Buy AwardWhat Video & Widescreen TV - Apr '06
"This is no ordinary DVD player."The Independent - Feb '06
"It's certainly the sexiest we've seen for a while with three hours battery life and super picture quality, all for £299."News of the World - Aug '05
"You may not have heard of Shinco, but they make about one third of the world's portable DVD players..Colour, sound quality, vision, were all faultless, children were happy. So far so good. Then I had an idea: would it work in the car?..The anti-trip device worked perfectly..The Shinco has a three-hour battery, which is handy for long-haul flights."Financial Times - Apr '05
"The Shinco, despite being the cheapest on test, offers the best all-round quality."Evening Standard - Mar '05
"Beautiful, sleek, compact - all these words describe voles. But they also describe the new award-winning nine-inch widescreen portable DVD player from Shinco."Maxim - Dec '04
"It's superb value"Computer Active - Aug '04
"The picture's a cracker... Contrast is particularly impressive too... A hugely tempting proposition."Boys Toys Magazine - Jul '04
Group Test Winner - Portable DVD"Highly watchable, high-contrast seven-inch LCD, responsive enough to keep up with Kill Bill and bright enough to do justice to the tans on Baywatch. The built-in speakers have plenty of poke and the headphones sound is equally good. The on-player controls are well laid out and easy to use. It's multi-region too, and comes with a car adaptor and composite video cables.
Verdict: The combination of good overall portable performance and an excellent price mean this player gets a two-handed thumbs up."
T3 Magazine - Jun '04
"The best gadget you can take on holiday this year is a portable DVD player..."Independent - Apr '04
"Film fans should get the popcorn ready for a cheap night in. Where once you’d have paid nearly a grand for the pleasure of watching movies on the move, these Shinco models make it extremely affordable. Considering the low prices, it’s amazing that you’ll also find a remote control and car adaptor included along with the lithium battery, AC plug for using at home and video and audio cables.
The built-in anti-shock system should save your favourite films skipping on those long bumpy train rides while the stereo headphones mean you can enjoy horror, comedy or a nice gentle romance without annoying the rest of the passengers.
Mind you, they’ll probably be too busy jealousy watching over your shoulder to worry."The Sun - Apr '04
"For what the Shinco DVD player offers we are truly shocked by the price (it would still be cheap at twice the price). Rather than requiring that you buy all the extras; charger, car charger, remote control, additional cables, all of these come in the box... Ultimately, this is a great little device that offers far more than it should. Why can’t all gadgets be like this?"

Visitor Reviews...
Bought a Shinco 10" 2 years ago - and it has execeeded my expectations! A fantastic screen, easy to use, with a wealth of features. Easily connects to a TV. BUT the biggest advantage for me - plays almost anything I can throw at it! When I miss shows on TV, I often find them somewhere on the web BUT in quite a variety of formats. The Shinco has proven to be the ONLY player which easily and consistently plays them all. A fantastic little player.Ron Khan, Greater London - 26th July 2009
I bought one of these for my wife, she is extremely intelligent and her mind works overtime so the only way she can switch off is watching the box. However, when we are away on holiday she only has foreign channels, with nothing for her to see. Now though she has this DVD player, she is over the moon and can watch all her favourite films. Well worth the money, buy it without any fears, a bargain. However, I didn't get any sweets. Firebox are a cracking company, would have no hesitation recommending them.John Murphy, Warrington - 17th July 2007
Delighted with our purchase; I bought this for my brother who was in hospital with a long-term illness and thought it would come in handy for watching the odd movie. However, seeing as it's XVID/DIVX compatible it was a breeze to get hold of the lastest tv shows, rip them to dvd, and keep him up to date. I'm pleased to say that, although my brother is now back home, the Shinco player is still getting plenty of use. Excellent value and feature-packed in comparison to other (more expensive) portable players available on the high street. Highly recommended, and quick delivery from Firebox too.T., Kent - 20th January 2007
Ordered 10. 2" model Sunday night, and delivered Tues morning. Great service and no messing about.
Unit is great out of the box. Hooked it to my audio hi fi and put on some Rory Gallagher. Excellent picture which I can see across my music room.
Intend to use this for playing dvd's, for use plane travelling between here and Spain, and using as a dvd player connected up to the tv in Spain.
( I like to get my monies worth)
However, I misread about the carrying case (it just comes with the 7" model ?) and so placed an order today for your own 10" case to carry all the gubbins.
Very happy.Will, Bangor, Northern Ireland - 12th December 2006
I bought the Shinco 1850 2 years ago for my boyfriend and he loves it. He travels lots and always takes it with him. The picture quality is amazing. Friends who have other makes are always very jealous.
Does the 1850 model work with the Freeview TV tuner?Rachel Ashton, London - 1st December 2006
Firebox says: To be honest, we don't really know. Sadly, we don't sell the 1850 model. Your best bet is to get in touch with Shinco Tech Support - telephone number available on the Shinco Portable DVD Player page.
Had a 7" Shinco DVD for nearly 3 years and its been great. The in car charger lead (through much use!) is now too loose and the DVD cuts out. I can't see anywhere to order a replacement. Any ideas?Nigel Finch, Wilmslow, Cheshire - 25th September 2006
After researching portable dvd players and testing all the ones I could find at electical stores, I am pleased to say that my shinco sdp 6820 is by far the best. The sound and picture quality are above anything I could have expected. I have already told a couple of my friends they have to get one. If you are thinking of buying one, then don't look any further. These things are brilliant. By the way, the first machine I recieved had a fault on it which shinco said was unrepairable. I sent it back to Firebox and they just sent me another straight away, with a second pack of sweets !Allan Carrick, Yorkshire - 6th May 2006
I got the 5" player a few years ago as a birthday present, it was fantastic! Anyway I'm now thinking of getting the 7" or 8" version as they seem to be even better quality than before. I was just wondering whether DVD's can be watched whilst the player is charging meaning if I have a film longer than 2 or 3 hours I can just set up the player to charge and be able to watch it all without having to worry about the film stopping halfway through? I was also wondering what the battery charge time is overall?Rebekah, Berkshire - 11th April 2006
I ordered the player on Friday 9th December and recieved it on Monday 12th December. NOW THATS WHAT I CALL EXCELLENT SERVICE! The whole Firefox team deserves a huge pat on the back for a brilliant service which should be the benchmark for the internet business. I have only given the player a quick check, as it had to go to Santa! But seems to be perfect and excellent value for money (which is praise indeed from this self confessed frugal Scot).Stewart Cockburn, Falkirk - 14th December 2005
After searching for sometime for a portable DVD player I decided after reading other recommendations to take the plunge and buy the Shinco 7inch. I would recommend it to anybody. . A great priced, top quality piece of equipent. The sound and picture quality is brilliant. Worth every penny!! Im sure my boyfriend will love it!Sarah Dudley, West Mids - 6th December 2005
