As anyone who can use Google knows, it was obscure English novelist and dramatist Edward Bulwer-Lytton (1803-73) who first coined the phrase "The Pen Is Mightier Than The Sword". We're not quite sure what he meant by that, but he was probably thinking of something very similar to the marvellous 13-in-1 Multi Pen Tool at the time. Probably.

Pen end

In addition to its most obvious function as a svelte, stainless steel ballpoint pen, the 13-in-1 cunningly contains another 12 useful tools (do the math) within its sleekly segmented and knicely knurled body - truly this is the Rolls Royce of the Swiss Army Knife of pens!* If you know what we mean...

wire sleeve remover/hole puncher

But what are these tools, we hear you ask? Patience, please, we are about to tell you. You get the following: a hole puncher; a stainless steel file; a short cutting blade; a flat screwdriver; a wire sleeve remover/small nail remover; an ear pick; a long cutting blade; a tweezer; a Philips screwdriver; a stainless steel fork and a saw. Wow! It's like it has come from the future, or something.

short blades

Okay, so we admit it doesn't also feature a James Bond style explosive projectile firing function, but that is still a pretty impressive list, we hope you will agree. How many times have you found yourself without an ear pick (for example) when you really need one?

EAR PICK!

We said "HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU..." Oh, never mind. Trust us, you need to have a 13-in-1 Multi Tool Pen - it's so much more than just a stylish stylus. You might not need it today, or tomorrow, but one day soon you'll wish you had one handy.

* Not actually endorsed by Rolls Royce. Or Victorinox. Or the Swiss Army.

Great product, so many uses, but my brother thinks the ear pick is gross. Great value for money, anyone would love this as a gift.

Well I must say, opened my jiffy bag today, found a bag of sweets (I really did) and my holy pen. I couldn't believe how thin it is. I didnt bother reading the instructions, as I have seen the videos on Firebox. Having looked at every little bit inside the pen I was more than satisfied with it. All the instruments work, blades are sharp. However, I couldn't use the tweezers for my hair. All in all, the best I have had since the 4 in 1 colour pen. Thanks Firebox!

I was sitting in physics and all of a sudden I wanted to pick my ear, and lo and behold I could! thanks to the 13-in-1 multi tool pen :D

Accidentally forget to remove this baby from in your top breast pocket whilst in Heathrow on a flight to Israel and fully expect to have blood extracted from your anal cavity by the jobsworth authorities in terminal 3.
Sal, London - Jul '08

Oh great pen, I bought it in the bonanza and it arrived today. It was so cheap for what you were getting, so much so, I bought one for my dad at the same time. I do have one question though; has anyone tried going through airport security with one of these babies? Somehow I think you may be refused flight, possibly more, even if you do say it's just a pen.

Did all these people get ID for this pen? I am 37 and they would have wanted me to send in passport or driving licence as proof of ID, as I use a visa electron. I dont want to pay high interest on credit cards, these is why I use this card its my money not the banks. So why should I be ID, how stupid. I agree no sale of knives to under 18s, why punish the adults for kids actions ?????
Firebox says: Hi Samantha, good question. As Visa Electrons and debit cards are available to people under 16 we have to, for legal reasons ask for ID. Section 141A (1) of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 make it an offence to sell to a person under the age of 16 years.

Hey, looks like a good pen. But wheres the laser missile guidence system, and the gun attachment going to go?
Cody, Sheffield - Dec '06

I think this pen is realy cool and useful but the only problem I had with it is shortly after it arrived the pen stoped working so I had to replace the ink cartrige with one from a biro.

not a review but a suggestio. Coincidentally, i drew in my notebook an idea for a multi-purpose pen/tool just minutes before I hopped on the internet and found your site seeking something unrelated...My idea included two other tools, a revolving single-page blade cutter and a glue stick. (similar to where an eraser might be) I use scissors and glue or tape (when I can find them!) daily to clip and paste in my notebooks. Just want to pass the suggestion along-love to have something like this. It is primarily the fastening feature. So paperless paperclips, stapless stapler, glue, tape etc... Anther gadget i'd like to see is a stapler with miniature staples like the ones on tea bags.
