A dinky digital stills camera that can knock out the odd 30-second clip of video is all well and good, but if you're after high quality video you really need to bag yourself a camcorder. Until recently, in order to get a DV Cam, you'd have had to nip down your local electrical retailer and hand over the best part of a grand to the youngster behind the counter. Thanks to our tireless product research, though, all you need to do these days is go online, shell out £149.95, and before you can say Blair Witch Project you'll be the owner of a shiny digital camcorder, ready to shoot your budget masterpiece.
The Pocket DV4 boasts a 2-megapixel CMOS sensor, which with software tweaking will produce images of up to 3-megapixel resolution – the same quality as a bleeding edge dedicated stills camera. When it comes to shooting video, the DV4 offers VGA resolution (640x480 pixels) at 8-12 frames per second, or 340x240 resolution at 10/20 frames per second. While it's not exactly big screen standard, it's more than enough to shoot quality videos to post on the web or email to friends.
You can also upgrade the standard 16MB memory via the Secure Digital and MultiMedia Card memory slot to boost capacity. Secure Digital cards can be bought at Firebox separately, or you can take advantage of our SD card bundle offer and save yourself up to twenty quid.
With the video functionality sorted, it's clear there's been a lot of focus (ahem, excuse the pun) on the DV4's stills functionality. A built-in flash and 4x digital zoom are functions often missing from basic digital cameras and yet somehow they've been shoehorned into the DV4's jaw-dropping spec.
But wait, there's more! As if the above weren't enough, the Aiptek engineers got quite carried away and included voice recorder and MP3 player functionality. AND, with the addition of an SD Card, the DV4 can be used as a removeable Hard Drive. Pretty amazing, we think you'll agree.
Just because there's five gadget's worth of functionality crammed into the DV4 doesn't mean it's piled on the flab. Oh no. It's just as svelte as previous offerings, but gives you so much more tech per pound. Why carry five gadgets around with you when the DV4 can do everything so damn proficiently?

I ordered this camera after reading the reviews and stuff. And to be honest, it alot better then I actually expected, the quality of the images and video recording and the nifty MP3 player is ace. Its fairly difficult to use the camera at first but after about and hour or so of fiddling around its easy as pie. 10/10 - a great camera.Lee, Guernsey - 14th June 2005
I can't believe how good this camera is! I havent even tried out the editing software and already I am enjoying it. It's not as good as a £250 quid camera with 1,000 digital zoom or something but for this price it is amazing! I love it! Have a look at the Hyperman series on this site on the DV3 and come back later as I am hoping to do something similar myself. All I would say is that the photos take on the second flash not the first. Other than that a great camera and for the price the best around!Brad, England, Hampshire - 11th September 2004
is there any chance of any of you giving me or buying me one of these for my birthday? it is on the 14th of september
pleaseeeee?!chuck, planet earth - 2nd September 2004
This nifty little 'toy' is fantastic. It took me a while to find out how to use it but then I decided to have a look at the instructions which was the best idea of the day. I mainly go around with it when I'm with my mates so I can say 'jump in that bush' or 'knock on that guys door and try to sell him a tissue'. The picture is great quality and the pics are fab! The Firebox team are doing great at finding new gadgets so keep it up guys (and gals). Airzooka + DV4 = FUN!!!!Sam marriott, Caistor - 3rd June 2004
I got the DV4 a couple of weeks ago, and I have a couple of comments - camera is great, flash is brilliant although sometimes it comes out REALLY bright. The video doesn't seem so good indoors - very grainy even on best quality, and no good at all in bad light which is a shame. However, outside I think it will be good (have not tried it yet). Overall, for the price I think its a great gadget-must get an SD card for it too!Lucy Brodribb, Ottershaw - 25th March 2004
Wow I know people who have spent hundreds of pounds on digital cams! But those boffins at Aiptek have shown me a whole new world of digital cams. I had bought mine a week ago, and soon as it arrived I was out shooting films embarrassing my fellow workmates. A neat little camera, of course the one little problem is having the right type of lighting! But apart fom that it is a fun gadget for those like me who must have gadgets! Well done Aiptek for a pukka gadget! ps now all I need is 256mb sd card the the world is mine!!!dangrous dave pye, devon - 20th March 2004
The service is great, the product is excellent. If only all web companies are like this one. Thumbs up.charis, portsmouth - 17th February 2004
Ok, got this camera on a few days ago. Picture quality is fantastic, cannot fault it. There's only one point that I'd like to point out and that's when you take photos with the flash, it flashes once (to focus or something...I dunno) and on the second flash takes the photo. This process takes a second or so. So no good for those catching people off guard shots, or moving pics for that matter either. Other than that...perfect!!Richard Holbrook, Bristol - 26th January 2004
This is such an amazing camera, bought mine from Firebox and it is one hell of a camera. I already have a DV2, but this has everything you could wish for. As soon as mine arrived in the office, I soon had everybody around me, including the boss. At an exceptionally low price, AMAZING is the only word to describe this MINATURE WONDER!!! Tom Wood, Slough - 7th January 2004
Had my DV4 for a day now and I can conclude these points: 1) Very good picture quality 2) Good video quality when in good light. Must have many lights on for indoor use to get a good video 3) The integrated memory is tiny! The video last for only 1 minute and you cannot have any pictures or MP3s on the camera while you have a video lasting this long. A bigger memory card is a must, and they are very expensive! 4) If you want to get rid of MP3's you have to delete everything on your camera, as you cannot delete single MP3's when you wish. 5) The sound on the videos is superb. You pick up everything, even if you are talking very quietly it picks it up, which is fantastic. 6) The DV4 fits into the hand perfectly, with a nice strap included in the package, you have no chance of loosing it. Overall this is a great little beginners camera, and if you only want it for holidays, mucking around with friends, and just having fun, this is definitely the camcorder for you.James, Chandlers Ford - 1st January 2004
