Control via your iPad! (or any iOS/Android device)
Improving on its predecessor with a number of key updates, the Parrot AR Drone 2.0 has arrived. Boasting a macked out High Definition main camera and with additional sensors and improved stability, this is one seriously high flyer. It’ll even perform mid-air flips! But the best part is that this high tech quadricopter is controlled entirely from your smartphone or tablet.
Already compatible with iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches; now Android users can get in on the aerial action too. The free App lets you stream live video from the AR Drone 2.0’s built-in cameras straight to your screen, while you fly. When you want to take off, just press the handily titled “Take Off” button. The AR Drone will rise into the air of its own accord and stop at a predetermined height. From that point you’re the pilot.

Tilt your device forwards and the drone will move forwards. Tilt it left to move left, and right to move right. Height and rotation are easily managed via touchscreen controls. Need to land? Let the software do it for you! Hit “Land” and the AR Drone will gently touch down – no more ungainly crash-landings so typical with other RC choppers. The introduction of a revolutionary new Absolute Flight mode and superior control interface means that even beginners can be winging above the treetops in no time.
Different colour hulls available (L-R): Orange/Green, Orange /Blue, Orange/Yellow

Not content to just fly around streaming HD video to your smartphone or tablet, the AR Drone generates its own WiFi hotspot – ensuring communication is incredibly fast and responsive. The App will even let you stream augmented reality games over the top of your live video feed, so rather than just watching where you’re flying, you can engage virtual robots, or even challenge other AR Drones to an aerial dogfight! You can rain digital machinegun fire on them, launch missiles, and ultimately claim the title of King of the Skies – all via your iPhone’s screen. With a range of up to 50m you’ll have plenty of space to stand and fight; or turn and run!
Finally, the AR Drone comes with two interchangeable hull designs. The rugged Full Hull gives more protection when space is tight; while the more aerodynamic Streamlined Hull is lighter, for greater manoeuvrability outdoors. Either way, the polypropylene foam used in both designs gives a lightweight but robust feel to your drone – so it’ll take a few knocks and bumps without any problems. Although it might be worth you visiting the Pilot’s Academy on Parrot’s website first!

Hi, does this come with a warranty? I'd hate for the money to be a waste if the wind picked up and it stuck an object destroying it. Sam Lister, Wolverhampton - 18th December 2012
Firebox says: Hi Sam, you will be happy to hear that all FIrebox products come with a years warranty.
Awesome piece of kit. I had this out to play in the peak district and it's certainly capable of dealing with moderate winds and gusts, whilst retaining good HD image & an amazing level of stability & agility. I prefer the standard joystick control, the tilt iPhone/iPad is just gimmicky. Battery life ranges between 10-20 mins. Would like to see more intelligent functions, I. E. A "chase me" mode where it will follow the iPhone/iPad that's controlling it & maybe a v 3. 0 will have multi dimension pressure sensors, that could assist the avoidance of collisions. Be sure to tone down the capabilities in the settings at first. Respect this piece of kit and you'll love it, or you'll spend a lot on spares!!! Terry Hoare, Fareham, Hampshire - 15th July 2012
Absolutely amazing gadget, boys dream :)
Very well made and strong in sense that it can take quite reasonable bashing, against walls, quite high drops also not a problem. Several tips; I suggest battery upgrade for longer flying times, also you can get shaft ball bearing upgrade. And most important get yourself spare GEAR/SHAFT set, everything seems to withstand drops and crashes except shafts; higher drops causes them to bend and impede gears. The AR Drone 2. 0 is far more advance than its predecessor. Now with a HD camera the images you capture are crisp and clear, easy to fly with either a Apple device, Android device or PC. Defiantly worth the money and I would suggest an extra battery ;). Mark Hayes, Honiton, Devon - 26th June 2012
Firebox says: That's some pretty heavy praise Mark, glad you like it!
