Kameleon 8-in-1
Thankfully, you can now put an end to multiple remote misery with the sleek and sophisticated Kameleon 8-in-1 and its little brother, the 5-in-1. These ingenious wafers of hi-tech jiggery pokery are universal remote control units that can operate up to eight - yes, eight - entertainment appliances at once. From your TV and VCR to your DVD, CD, Audio, satellite and cable, these gorgeously svelte, touch sensitive remotes do the lot.

Kameleon 5-in-1
Best of all, an ingenious 'no clutter' key system means that only the keys of the active device are illuminated at any one time, so you won't see a profusion of confusing FFWD/RWD keys when you're operating your TV! To infuriate your friends further, certain keys even have animations. And just to hammer the final nail in the coffin of other remotes, the Kameleon is also future-proof. A built-in modem enables it to be updated with new device codes via phone or internet download.
These really are the ultimate in remote controls and no home entertainment anorak should be without one. Blipping marvellous.

The device itself is lovely, but be warned: if you need to download codes from the web, you're going to need to be a techie. Following the links in their website as described in the manual leads to "page not found", and if you can work around that, you'll find the product isn't listed in the main list (it is in a subsidiary list hidden in the site). Basically their website is shoddy.
If you can cope with using a bit of technical knowledge, you'll be rewarded with a device that does control your devices, that feels nice, and looks great.
Take-home message: nice, but for techies only!Stu Smith, Exmouth - Jan '07
This is simply an amazing product! I got mine today from Firebox.com. Setup was very easy and it's really cool!Peter, TUK - Mar '07
I've had the Kameleon for a few days now and let me tell you it's brilliant! Does everything it claims to do and the blue touchpad looks amazing in the dark. It's a bit on the big side though and it emits a barely audible whining noise when the keypad is illuminated, but it's well built and very easy to use.
A real winner!Lee Sibbald, York - Apr '03
It's a brilliant remote, but it eats batteries for breakfast, makes an annoying buzzing noise and has fits when the batteries are running out (randomly changes channels and stuff just when you'd rather it didn't) oh, and it's hard to see in bright light. Other than thats its fun and it can 'learn' to use most things e.g. our gas fire, which is nice.Bubba, UK - Exeter - Apr '03
This is a brilliant product. Mine came with 2 NiMH batteries, but I don't think the base unit which recharges is the right type of charger. I have had ordinary duracells powering mine for ages now. So I don't think it is heavy on batteries, you just have to get your charging sorted out!Twoarmadillos, Hereford, UK - Sep '06
After using a Kameleon 10 for a month with my Home Cinema system, I'd say : Really can replace half a dozen remotes from a variety of manufacturers, and will grow on you the more you use it.
Chrome styling may not suit all tastes and shows finger marks; device is heavier than most remotes and a bit slippery to hold.
Central up/down/left/right/OK rocker is very imprecise and can be frustrating to use e. G. When navigating program guide on Humax DTV box - gives a lot of false selections - would be much better as separate buttons as on original remote.
Electro-Luminescent display is heavy on supplied rechargable batteries so remote needs to be recharged every couple of days.
Can take a long time to set up, especially the fine detail of AV Amp DSP functions.
Otherwise works fine. I'd give it 7 out of 10.John, Southampton - Mar '06
Had a 6 in 1 for 2yrs. Good points - Controls All my AV kit, simple to use, simple to program, looks great.
Bad Points - No "eject" button, eats batteries (buy 2 sets of rechargables to fix this).
I do get a slight buzzing from the remote but its only noticable if my head is 6" from it. (I think its caused by the way the electro-luminous panel works).
All in all a very good neat bit of kit. Going to buy 10-in-1 now it comes with charger & eject key :)Alan, Coventry - Nov '05
Not a review, but a question really if anybody knows! Does the 6 in 1 have the ability to control a Sony AV home cinema amp?Alan, Catterick - Nov '05
Can it be programmed to accept an X-Box dvd controller? if so, count me in.Tony, Reading - Dec '04
This remote is AMAZING it controls all my things and was set up in about 5 minutes. And the self learn feature is also a cool tool. It can do anything. And it even controls my xbox. which W didnt expect. And delivered the next working day - THANKYOU FIREBOXJames Murphy, Leyland - Nov '04
