Musicians are very cool. Musicians smoke. They also use equipment called amps. These three undeniable truths of rock have been fused together by a former custom amp designer at guitar legends Fender in the form of the very cool Smokey Amp. It's a high-performing amp - for its size - housed in a used cigarette pack. A perfect box, mind you, no phone numbers or torn corners.

Smokey Amp A lifetime's appreciation of surgically enhanced models may or may not have induced the makers to inject silicone into the boxes as reinforcement, but it works great. One square battery will give you about ten hours of playing time, and there's a 0.5w output from the built-in speaker. Of course, you're not going to play Madison Square Garden with one, but a Marshall stack doesn't fit in your pocket, does it?

A triumph of recycling and lo-fi design, several top bands have used the Smokey. Because it's pure genius. Turn the volume way up and it's a makeshift fuzzbox. But one crucial question remains. Who smoked all the cigs?

Smokey Amp Made from lovingly recycled cigarette packets, Smokey Amps come in a variety of brands. Although they are not affiliated with, sponsored or authorized by any cigarette company, unlike their previous contents, these packs will not cause cancer, emphysema, or lower the birth rate.

PLEASE NOTE: Smokey Amps are chosen at random so you never know which design you're gonna get! But thats all part of the mystery.

Please note:
  • Smokey Amps may have actual cigarette logos printed on the cigarette packet.
  • Smokey Amps are not affiliated with, sponsored or authorized by any cigarette company.
  • If you need to change the battery in your Smokey Amp, carefully cut through the sticker over the flip-up lid. Swap the batteries and then reseal the lid with double-sided tape.

visitor avatar The common theme running through these reviews is WOW, and I totally agree with everyone. Straight out of the box, I plugged in my (out of tune) axe and quickly worked out how to get the sound I wanted using the guitar's controls. It's so easy to use and play with. Top work, Firebox!

visitor avatar I've been using my Smokey Amp almost everyday now and have even treated it to a new Camel packet! But there is one problem, batteries! After connecting it to my phone at work, to show off, everyone wants it on all the time! You should see the arguments over who is paying for today's battery! 5 out of 5 Brilliant!

visitor avatar I got my Smokey a couple of months back and I have to say that it is a very impressive piece of kit! £25, and I use it almost as much as my £600 amp, it's sound quality is good and goes anywhere between light bluesy distortion to something a whole lot more rocky depending on guitar. Defo recommend... ...Also, I have to commend Firebox for the service, ordered at 16:30 got it at 9 am the next day. And with sweets!

visitor avatar Well, I’ve had this little piece of genius for two weeks now and I literally cannot put the damn thing down, basically because it's brilliant and I found that it works even if you only have an acoustic guitar. Just buy an acoustic pick up plug and strum away like you’ve never strummed before. It's small, powerful (and that’s an understatement) and damn sweet. 10/10 - a must buy for anyone with a guitar.

visitor avatar I agree with everybody else here - not only does it look cool, but it sounds bigger and better than 'real' amps costing far more. It works great as a pre-amp too.
Wayne Readshaw, Reading - Apr '01
visitor avatar Well, I got it out of the box and then I got the shock of my life. Plugged in my guitar and WOW - what a sound from a fag packet. Who would have guessed, great for practice anywhere! Beginner or pro, you want one of these!!
Peter Howard, Billingshurst - Apr '01
