Sealander Schwimmcaravan
Whatever floats your…caravan?!
Tow the Sealander to your location
Built in Germany, this amphibious camping trailer can be towed like any other middle lane bothering caravan. But drive to a lake or any other expanse of relatively calm water and you can back it in to the wet wobbly stuff and enjoy the tranquil surroundings as you bob around, propelled by a 5hp electric motor which doubles up as a source of energy for various on-board mod cons. Wunderbar!
Just like any other caravan? |
Roll the roof back on a nice day |
Sail effortlessly across the lake |
Just roll out when you've finished
Just think, with this luxe baby hooked up to your car you can settle down for a night at the campsite and then amaze fellow campers in the morning by going for a cruise on the lake. Onlookers won’t know whether to applaud you or throw you a life ring.
Complete with modern kitchen module, heater, table and convertible benches for your guests
Park up on the other side of the lake!
The inevitable downside of all this innovative show-offery is the price. But if you’ve got the cojones to back a caravan into a lake as crowds of cagoule-clad campers gawp, money is clearly no object. Float on!

While looking at this I had a really strange thought: all it needs is a pump, a high-pressure storage tank, a supply of hydrogen (more lift and better recyclability than helium) and a balloon stowed away in the roofing. The 5 HP motor could then drive a propeller and you would have a seagullish-caravan that would allow the tourist to fish from a height, hunt, take video of historic landmarks and make real nuisances of themselves. A re-usable lifter system shouldn't add too much to the price.
Or am I just weird?John, England - 20th April 2012
Firebox says: No John, that seems perfectly logical (Eekk!)
I have a question: If this is a caravan, where are the beds? And why is the loo optional? Does it have a shower? It's a bit confusing because this is being described as a caravan that can also float on water, when it seem it's not actually. Looks more like a fancy boat with benches and cooking facilities.Danae, London - 21st February 2012
Firebox says: Hi Danae, the benches fold into a bed, there is no shower (just jump in the lake!). It can either be fancy boat or a small caravan! its up to you!
I don't get this, please explain where and why I would actually use this? Thanks FireBox.Edd Yeo, Tamworth, Midlands - 7th December 2011
Firebox says: Where to start Edd, if you enjoy relaxing in the comfort of a modern caravan experience and the tranquility of calm waters then this is your idea getaway companion. Whether it be fishing, reading or even sunbathing, this is the perfect craft to accommodate these activities. And it's convenient size makes it an easy choice to bring along on any camping holiday.
