TRU VIRTU Wallet Oyster Series
21st century wallet
| Also available to pre-order: Red |
When it comes to keeping your cards and cash safe and secure, you could fold them up in a bit of cowskin. After all, we’ve been doing the same thing for hundreds of years. Why change? Well no reason... only that technology, taste and materials have come a long way since our ancestors tanned their first leather pouch. So why not make like it’s the 21st century and keep your important stuff in something suitably up to date?
The TRU VIRTU Wallet Oyster Series is a range of formed aluminium cases that’ll hold everything from coins to credit cards. Lightweight and incredibly sturdy it’ll protect them from dust, dirt and moisture; but more importantly, from electromagnetic radiation, illegal RFID-scanning and other outside influences – not something our ancestors had to worry about.
The Oyster is also the first aluminium case to offer two completely separate areas for cash and cards. Press the buttons on the front edge to open either of the compartments. It’s perfect for keeping business cards and other loose items in place while you whip out your change.
Anodised in a range of colours, there’s an Oyster to suit all tastes. So whether you’re a suited and booted business bod, or a tech geek in your comfy scruffs, you can enjoy this thoroughly modern twist on a pocket classic. It’s your round!

If you are thinking about buying this and you carry more than about £3 in change...be prepared to carry the change in your pocket. Due to some amazing design, a chunk of plastic (presumably holding the 'RFID protection') limits its change holding capacity to near nonexistent. Seriously doubt I will keep this.Alex L, Newcastle Upon Tyne - 6th March 2012

These look great on screen but unfortunately, they're just not practical. They're quite bulky when you consider that unlike a regular wallet, you're not going to be able to put this in a back pocket and sit down. Despite their bulkiness, these don't really hold that much inside; you can get a few coins in the coin section, only about 5 credit cards/store cards, etc. Plus, the cash clip is really stiff and difficult to slide notes back in. You get the worst of both worlds: bulky but low on storage capacity. Also, the buttons which open each side redefine the word 'fiddly'. If this was priced at £10-£15 I'd have probably kept it and put up with the practical shortcomings because these just look so cool but for £30, it went straight back to Firebox (who, as usual, were fantastic).Mark, Essex - 23rd January 2012
This looked so great on paper (well, screen) that I requested notification for when it was in stock. Firebox told me delivery would be in 2012 but brilliantly managed to get it to me in time for Xmas - so I've had it for about 10 days.
However, though the visual design is great, practically it has disappointed me. The coin slot is too snug for £1 coins, meaning they disappear and don't come back. The two buttons for opening either half are not the greatest for opening the wallet - I struggle in shops. As a result one button is loose already. Additionally the outer shell halves are also coming away (possibly stuck down with Pritt Stick rather than superglue).
Ultimately I suspect, whether I like it or not, I will be reverting to my old leather wallet within days, which is an costly shame.Stuart Olds, London - 30th December 2011
Not a great product, very expensive for what it actually does.
+ points are that it looks kinda cool and not many people will have similar.
- points are that the buttons to open the compartments are clumsy and difficult to press without pressing the other by accident. The coin section holds a maximum of 4 £1 coins and 5 20p's (what I've managed anyway). They fit in a little slot behind the cash clip and the idea is they slide out into the tray when opened but all mine are stuck in there and need fishing out with a bent paper clip. It's also a pain feeding them back in after buying a newspaper.
Probably worth about £10 or £15 for the novelty alone, but not £29. 99. Great service from Firebox tho! The sweets were the best thing in the box!Robert, Newcastle-Under-Lyme - 20th December 2011
Very disappointed. I cannot get the unit to close with notes in the money clip and to make it worse, the coin section will not take pound coins without them getting stuck! If it cannot easily take cash money them it really isn't fit for purpose and is just an expensive credit card holder. Expecting to return.Jonathon Brown, Newcastle Upon Tyne - 18th December 2011
Firebox says: Hi Jonathan, sorry to hear that. Please drop us an email at info@firebox.com and we shall let you know how to return it to us.
