The trouble with most of today's ultra-fancy, graphically gobsmacking videogames is that by the time you've read the instructions, waited for them to load and worked out which button does what, it's just about time to go to bed!

But things weren't always so complicated...

Atari Classics 10-in-1

Back in the late 70s, home videogaming was still in its infancy, and, despite the fact that most games simply involved moving a few brightly coloured dots, squiggles and blocks around the screen, an entire generation of polyester-clad geeks became hopelessly hooked, thanks to the teeth-curlingly addictive gameplay and mesmerizing blip-blop sound effects. As JFK (might have) said, "We choose to play these games not because they are hard, but because they are easy."

Atari logo close-up

Undisputed leader of the home videogame market was Atari's truly revolutionary 2600 console. In fact, the pixellated magic produced by this teak-effect box of jiggery-pokery helped Atari shift over 30 million units and the 2600 (or VCS) is now universally regarded as the godfather of home consoles. Even today, videogame aficionados fondly remember that primitive, thumb-numbing Atari joystick with blister-tinged affection. Which is just as well, because ingenious boffins have now managed to cram 10 classic Atari games into an officially licensed replica Atari joystick!

That's right Atari fans, this lightweight, compact, all-inclusive controller is pre-loaded with 10 official and fully licensed vintage Atari titles: Asteroids®, Adventure™, Missile Command®, Centipede®, Gravitar®, Yar's Revenge®, Breakout®, Pong®, Circus Atari™ and Real Sports Volleyball™. (If you're anything like us, the titles alone are enough to send shivers of nostalgia racing down your spine).

Simply plug this self-contained design classic into your TV and Gorf's your uncle - well, he isn't but you get the point. We honestly can't overemphasise the excitement that this sleek little stick of tricks has been caused - it is well on the way to becoming an all-time best seller. Because as well as being a fantastically portable gaming system, the 10-in-1 is one of the most evocative objects you could ever hope to get your hands on; why it's just like being whisked back to an early 80s living room minus the shag-pile carpet, coffin-sized music centre and discarded Sodastream.

Atari 10-in-1 packaging

The 10-in-1 really puts the "joy" in joystick, and we guarantee you'll be unable to put it down, even when it's not plugged in. In fact, position it next to your PS2/Xbox/GameCube and see which one friends immediately go for. This truly is the most fantastic piece of plastic we've seen for years and, at less than the price of a single PS2 game, a snip to boot. Game - and life - over!

The Games

The Atari Classics 10-in-1 features 10 official and fully-licensed Atari games:

  • Asteroids®
  • Adventure™
  • Missile Command®
  • Centipede®
  • Gravitar®
  • Yar's Revenge®
  • Breakout®
  • Pong®

visitor avatar I really do love this 10-games-in-one Atari set. When I bought it, I was amazed at how small it turned out to be. It plugs into my TV and I was playing a half a minute later. When I shown my mother this, she was shocked on how 10 games were in it. Great product !
Mike, United States - 2nd May 2004
visitor avatar What a great piece of kit! Forget Pacman and Space Invaders ... the only true game missing is Defender!
Mark, Leeds, UK - 8th December 2003
visitor avatar Awesome piece of kit! Those who wanted Pacman & Space Invaders - this is ATARI not Namco / Taito!
Minwah, Oxfordshire - 21st November 2003
visitor avatar What?!! NO PACMAN & SPACE INVADERS?!!! They were the ultimate classics! Otherwise a great product. Shame.
Taritino, Reading, UK - 6th November 2003
visitor avatar This product is *very* cool, just plug it in and off you go, no hassle. It's been nearly 20 years since I played these games and they're just so damn playable! Breakout's a bit hard without the paddle and I miss Night Driver but Gravitar, Missile Command and Yar's are great. Well worth the dosh if you ever played on an original Atari 2600, and top marks to Firebox for the ultra quick delivery (ordered Wed lunchtime, despatched Wed afternoon, ready for hot thumb-aching action Thu morning!)
Chris Lawrence, North West - 1st November 2003
visitor avatar Absolute Class. What a fantastic birthday present idea for all those 70's babies out there.
Kerri, Egham, Surrey - 20th August 2003
visitor avatar My hopes for a second joystick: Beserk, Ghosts and Goblins, Warlords, Venture, Pac Man, Ms. Pac Man, Space Invaders, Tennis, Night Driver, Combat. DO IT NOW!!!
Scott, Boston MA - 17th July 2003
visitor avatar We sell these in our contemporary furniture/design store in Cardiff called back2myplace and play them on our funky 1970's white round TV!! We sit round in our snorkels and Dunlop green-flash, sipping Soda Streams and eating Jaffa Cakes, reminiscing about the 80's. Ooh, what fun they were!!!
simon robinson b2mp, cardiff - 2nd July 2003
visitor avatar Sack the dummy who didn't include SPACE INVADERS and PACMAN. Tsssssssst!!
Meg, Gloucs - 6th June 2003
visitor avatar Wow! I'll always regret selling my 2600 and this brings back all the old memories. I still have a few games though, perhaps a cart slot in the top side would be a good idea for next time.
