Once private air travel was the exclusive preserve of the rich and famous. Sadly, it still is, unless you happen to have the lion's share of half a million lying dormant in your bank account. The Skycar, though, has whipped the Firebox team into a collective frenzy with its vertical take off capability and vaguely enticing 380Mph top speed.

Unlike previous prototype Skycars, the M400 can comfortably seat four people, making a day trip to the south of France with your mates the equivalent of a two-hour blast down the motorway. That's when it goes on sale, of course, which isn't just yet.

"Wary as any test pilot taking up an experimental craft, the man in the fireproof blue suit kissed his wife before climbing into the cockpit. One by one he started the eight rotary engines, then pushed a small red throttle with his left-hand and a joystick with his right. With that, engines whining, the flying saucer rose 40 feet into the air. He took his volantor on a 150 second spin in Davis."
People magazine

"One immediate advantage would be safety. The (Skycar) engines have so few moving parts that they should require a fraction of the maintenance of a helicopter. One engine could fail and the Skycar could still hover to a landing. Piloting the Skycar should require less skill than driving a car."
USA Today

"Paul Moller has spent 40 years and $50 million building the L.A. commuter's dream car."
Los Angeles Times Magazine

Just took delivery of my new baby, and must confess, am revelling in the freedom from those noxious slabs of pork with the speed cameras, radar, and fascist mind-control. The Skycar's a release, and freely available to anyone with a bit a spare change. Why, just a few minutes ago, was sorta hovering nonchalantly in Westminster, when a little old lady inched up next to me in HER new Mollar SuperSkyCar, hunched over the controls, sweat beading from every pore, as she contemplated studiously avoiding parking on my wingtip. However fate is inexorable, and she did. Then she carefully reversed into Big Ben, made a beautifully executed 27-point turn, and headed off toward the palace, gently ricocheting off buildings on her way up, her little "L" plate flapping gracefully with her swerves. Say, do these come with guns and missile options?

Just bought ours and I must say it beats driving any day. The family and I were scheduled to go on holiday to Spain during June there.... We took our M400 and it saved us a lot of money on flights. It's definitely worth getting. I may purchase several more!

At work we've got a roof terrace and I've always wondered why. Now I know! If I'm still there when I finally save up enough cash to buy one of these, the roof terrace will become my personal parking lot! When you're saving £25 per week by not paying the congestion charge this thing pays for itself in... hang on... only 249 years.

I have a question...being a student I occasionally have to base my purchases around how much discount I can get using a firebox voucher, so does anyone try using a £5 or £10 discount voucher when purchasing one of these beauties? :).
Firebox says: Of course Stuart..remember: "We've printed a unique voucher code on every catalogue guaranteeing you £2, £3, £5 or £10 off your next Firebox order". Shizzam that's good!

Please read this review as it may be a warning to others. I took delivery of my new Skycar just two days ago. I was making a nice cuppa when I heard this high pitched whining from the back garden. 'It's here' I said to myself and without further hesitation, ran to the back lawn to be greeted by a chap in overalls who could only be described as looking 'a bit tense'. He threw the keys at me and said 'it's all yours now' and blessed himself and ran off with a train ticket clutched in his sweaty hand. Great customer service but he was probably very busy and he had just flown it from America - no inflight movie! - I jumped into the beast noticing that they had installed my optional cup holders, but my £5 Firebox voucher had taken the financial edge off this addition. Started it up, woke all the neighbours with its whine, but I didn't care, this was my destiny. Now - just for a laugh, I shouted at the controls "Alpha Sentauri please !" now, no-one mentioned that they had put speech recognition in the bloomin' thing and I am writing this review on my Laptop whilst it's doing its thing. I will update you as my journey continues - oh! a red flashing light has come on, does anyone know what that means? .... . Must go now and find the loo, cheers....
Firebox says: The flashing red lights means time's up and you'll be ejected from your skycar any second now...

Wow! just looked on the website for moller, the m400 runs off booze! Bit like me really being a student and all.
Josh Lutter, Berks - Feb '07

Well wortH buying one of these, I bought one last year and haven't had a hiccup since. Good fun and not too pricy for what it is. Quite a good deal actually!
Isabel Yeomans, Manchester - Feb '07

Run for cover!! Falling debris!! Can you imagine what it will be like when Mrs X 'accidentially' reverses into the BT Tower after a quick shop in Harvey Nic's? "I'm sure it wasn't there before officer"
Richard, London - Mar '03

Well, just arrived in the post, not what I thought it was. And you may need to buy alot off AA batteries as they're not included in the box. This car is awesome to annoy the kids, and the old men, in their peugeots. No more traffic jams. Do you sell spare tyres Firebox?
