Skateboards, rollerblades, snakeboards... we’re not short of ways to get around town, over park benches and up old people’s noses. But the Skatecycle, from US company Brooklyn Workshop, outclasses them all.

Already making waves across the pond, this cool piece of kit is the world’s first self-propelled hubless skate. Just slot your feet into the space where the hubs should be and carve down a hill (like a snowboarder), or weave along the flat. The clever set up lets you propel yourself along indefinitely, without ever taking your feet off the plates!

Choose your Skatecycle in original white for wowing the crowds as you pass by. Or pick your model in (a world first) black for night-time ninja skills and slick getaways.

Sure, mastering the Skatecycle takes time (20 minutes in our case. Oh alright, we're still practicing). But at the first glimmer of getting it right you'll be hooked! And once you've weaved your way from A to B, it’ll even fold up for easy storage. Honestly, you’ll wonder how you ever got by with just your legs.

Wow! This is one gadget you will never get tired of! It takes time to master (Like learning to walk all over again for me), but it all adds to the fun and challenge of it. Plus, it really turns heads... really! I've had it in the park and been asked several times what it is and where to get it. I chose the white version (so it stands out and it matches my helmet), and I just can't stop using it. My goal is to be riding it to work when I get the hang of it! Its great both for those into skating and also newbies (I don't want to admit it, but like me hehe). So if you're looking for fun, challenge and a real head turner, this is the gadget for you! Happy Skating... cycling... riding... whatever you want to call it!

This came as a massive surprise to me as it at first glance it looked like it had a ridged centre column but when you start riding it gives a massive range of movement and can been riden either way, it has a very sharp turning circle and is easier to maintain balance and speed, granted it does take a minute and some effort to get it going but plenty more tricks can be performed on this and you can actually use it on a half pipe with out any fuss. The only thing that competes for uniqueness is the flowboard, but they are a little harder to master.

Is there a weight limit on this? I'm nearly 18st! Could I still use it?

Firebox says: Hey Jonathan! We recommend that you don't go any faster than your skill level allows! Because this product is at its best and most fun to ride on flat surfaces, it becomes comfortable to just turn and slow down. If it's speed your after then there is always the famed Powerslide technique that you can use to stop yourself! I got one of these for my birthday in June. Still not managed to get the hang of moving more than about 2metres but good fun none the less!
