'Size isn't everything, it's what you do with it that counts.' Rubbish, we hear you whimper. Well, just to prove it, may we present the decidedly diminutive L'espion Digital Camera. Tinier than Tom Thumb's telly, this sleek little gizmo is so small you'd be forgiven for mistaking it for a trendy car alarm blipper or even a hi-tech novelty matchbox.

In fact, unless you're a clown, MC Hammer or a size 52 waist, describing L'espion (the spy) as 'pocket-sized' would be a gross injustice. It really is that small! What's more, it features a web cam and an ingenious short video clip function; perfect for capturing those priceless moments when friends reluctantly acknowledge defeat in that never-ending battle known as 'gadget one-upmanship.' And think of the fun you'll have asking pals 'Where the coal goes?' as you point at their prehistoric, digital brick-cams.

With its similarly minuscule price tag this chic pipsqueak obviously isn't in the same league as some of the pixel-packing big boys, but who cares about techno bells and whistles when you can video a workmate getting up to mischief and hide the evidence in a matchbox. On a more practical note, you can store 20 photos in high quality mode (352x288 pixels), or an impressive 80 snaps in low-resolution mode (176x144). Actually, L'espion-ist, this all adds up to a highly desirable, incredibly affordable little wonder.

And to be honest, if your recollection of your festival weekend is crystal clear, you probably weren't there either. Some kind of visual record of the event is obviously called for - na dth emost up-to-date thing to get hold of is a little digital camera. visitor avatar I'm pretty blase about gadgets but this thing is probably the most fun gadget I've ever bought. Works as advertised, mindbogglingly simple to use (plug and play on my Mac), and it's a great conversation starter. Despite the low res it is also capable of surprisingly good upclose portraits. The limitations of its resolution is what makes the photos charming, and the small physical size of the camera is what makes it COOL!

visitor avatar Blimey its small!!! Got the parcel through the door and was expecting something bigger, But its TINY! nice presentation case and the free sweets were a nice breakfast too! Its so small I lost it for 30 seconds until it bleeped when it switched off. Im off to take some pictures of Morcambe and I might post em up on Firebox! Thanks Firebox best purchase ever!!!!
Michael Scott, Kendal, Cumbria - Mar '02
visitor avatar I was a bit concerned that the pictures would suffer with the camera being so small. HOW WRONG COULD I HAVE BEEN !?!?!?!?! It's very, very, very good. Now Moneypenny where are the blueprints !!!!!!
Jeremy Balcombe, Manchester - Feb '02
visitor avatar Just buy it! You know you want to... The video clip feature is awesome, and it'll take about 10 seconds of video in low-res mode. The high-res pictures are better than I was expecting too. Take the key-ring off when you get it, though. It adds considerably to the weight...
Alan Moulding, Gateshead - Feb '02
visitor avatar Pay £300+ for a swanky new digital camera which is obsolete as soon as you open the box, or buy this sweet little number and get a free keyring thrown in.
Lee Flaherty, Leeds - Feb '02
visitor avatar Wow its a babe magnet and the pics are quite good too.
Steven Winwood, Tamworth, UK - May '03
visitor avatar I absolutly Love this camera, and do always carry with me. I do think that the case should have had a spare battery holder as battery always dies at worst moment. Also the camera doesn't work in medium-low light levels. Otherwise a interesting camera that makes a Great talking point in the Pub. Also found a great Yahoo Group at http://groups.yaho.com/group/l_espion with a Photo contest. Worth checking out! Paul G

visitor avatar The L'Espion is cool for 1 week, then you take it to a party and realise that it does not work much in artificial light or low light levels... but fear not... the lovely ladies don't know this & hey they are the stars of the show !... Right Susan, I want you on the bed, big smiles... more pouting & Lights, Camera ACTION !

visitor avatar well i usually read a bunch of reviews on a product before i consider purchasing, but this item just caught my eye for the sheer size. this puppy is small peeps! its about 1 or 2 millimetres too big to fit into a standard redheads matchbox, but il find another place to umm.... mount it discreetly haha. ive had it fro three days and ive got like 400 pics on my pc already, ive just been going totally bananas with the thing.i particularly like the rapid shot burst (or whateva its called) cos im a skater and i can get the best sequences out of it. the L'espion will rapidly take 80 shots (low-res) in around 7 to 8 seconds, which equates to around 10 shots per second (in case ur mathematically inferior)so basically u can pick from all the shots n get the best combo of pics for your sequence. i got a sequence of my friend snapping his board, and theres three pics of it flexing before it broke. im totally stoked on it. and it likes getting sneaky pics of unsuspecting honeys too haha. all in all people, just GO GET ONE!!! i did and i havent let it outta my hand yet! P.S. tip: take ur laptop with u on ur skating, and hook the l'espion up on the move, the video length/memory is increased to the capacity of your hard drive space, not just the 8 seconds limit it has, while on its own. the L'espion ("the spy") im hooked :)

visitor avatar It's brilliant. Don't confuse it with the expensive cameras. If you want a handy camera with you at all times, this is the one. I find it's better for scenery than people. If you want reactions from people you will get them. You'll be deafened with "I can't believe that's a camera"s. A friend called it the "Cutie cam".
