Retro Telephones
Say hello to an old friend

Perfect size for home or office use
There were no phone shops or communication companies vying for your custom. You used what you were given. And what you were given was a marvellously clunky Bakelite contraption with an ugh-ugh-ing rotary dial, shrieking bells and a dumbbell-style handset that barely balanced between shoulder and ear. Brilliant!

Hello... It's for you!
With their bone-shaking bell ringers and curvaceous geek-chic styling, Retro Telephones laugh in the fascias of modern slimline phones with weedy ringtones. They also look seriously cool in any scenario, in a dial-‘i’-for-irony kind of way. Best of all you can slam the handset down, Jack Reagan style, wind the curly-wurly cable around your hand or pace around the room gripping that walloping great base unit. Oh yes, you can also have a good old chinwag. It’s good to talk; it’s even better doing it on a Retro Telephone. Ugh-ughhhh…

Hi, I love the look of the phone...it really does look awesome!!!
Do you know if it would work in Australia or on VoIP?
CHeers.Zane Scott, Adelaide, Australia - 1st December 2011
Firebox says: Hi Zane, we've been informed by our suppliers that it should work fine in Australia, and with any VoIP that is compatible with analogue phones. I hope this helps!
Nice telephones, however please be aware these are a replica of the American "500" series telephones. This style of telephone was never used in the UK. As a BT engineer for 32 years I can assure you the GPO/BT never used this telephone.Connell, UK - 26th November 2011
Hey, is this DECT capable?Jack, North Wales - 14th November 2011
Firebox says: Sorry Jack, this isn't DECT capable (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications for anyone not in the know). It does have plenty of modern tech inside, including tone dialling, allowing for numerical input on switchboards and automated services. However, it wouldn't be particularly retro if you were waving around the handset without a cord!
Its a nice phone but the build quality could be better 5/10.Mark, London - 14th November 2011
Firebox says: Hi Mark, the design is supposed to have that retro-feel, but we appreciate that everyone has their own opinions.
Does this phone require plugging in to mains?Suzie, Somerset - 5th November 2011
Firebox says: No, just plug it into your phone socket and you're good to go!
I've called myself about 4 times today just so I can hear that bell ring - it sounds brilliant! Oh, and it looks quite swish too.Rory, Chorley - 3rd August 2011
Does this have actual good old fashioned steel bells that work in the proper way (magnet explanation for another day) or is it a tinny electronic representation of real ringing bell?Wilf, In The 70's - 21st April 2011
Firebox says: It's an actual metal bell ringer, just like the old days.
Does this work with a virgin phone line or just BT?Eleanor, Edinburgh - 24th March 2011
Firebox says: They work on any standard telephone line Eleanor.
Does the phone have an actual working rotary dial to use for calling or is there buttons?BORIS, London - 23rd March 2011
Firebox says: It has a traditional rotary dial, but it does also have tone dialling which allows you to use modern features like telephone banking.
Hi, I'm in love with this product! But I am 15 and still live with the parents :( Does it have to be used off the land line?Rachel, Stratford Upon Avon - 21st March 2011
