What is it and how did it get here?

Action figures, smaction figures – we’ve seen ‘em all. At least we thought we had until *cue iconic 2001: A Space Odyssey intro music* the Space Monolith Action Figure appeared from nowhere here at Firebox HQ.

With no discernable features, zero points of articulation and a distinct lack of action, this solid block of semi-synthetic, organic, amorphous, solid materials (aka plastic) is modelled on the mysterious Tycho Magnetic Anomalies from Stanley Kubrick’s incomprehensible sci-fi classic.

As the featureless slab of who-knows-what that unites all four sections of the film, the Space Monolith is perfect for screen-gazers keen to ponder the meaning of life. It won’t teleport, self-replicate or emit loud radio signals but at least it will mark you out as an aficionado of profound film making. Confused? You should be, you daft monkey!

visitor avatar For years I've been plagued with the age old problem - I buy a toy for my kids, and within minutes the arms or the legs are broken off, or if it's a Transformer they're bugging me every few minutes: "Dad, can you transform this robot into a car"... "Dad, can you transform this car into a robot" (ugh!). Now, finally I have a superbly crafted action figure that they can't break, the accessories aren't going to end up breaking the Hoover, and involves zero ongoing effort on my part. Peace and quiet!!! Thank you, Firebox.

visitor avatar Fantastic. I have been waiting for this to come to the UK fot two years to buy for a friend. You have to be a fan with a sense of humour to pay for it, but it is worth it. Note: Delivery was not free as said elsewhere.
Jon, Edinbugrh - 11th April 2012
visitor avatar This is amazing and so funny! Yes it's for the 2001 fans and definitely NOT for all you who have said its a waste of money! Grab yourself a sense of humour people please. I'm a vegetarian therefore don't moan about the price of meat. If you don't like it then stop moaning and look at something else. Way too much time on your hands.

Firebox says: Great review! "I am putting myself to the fullest possible use, which is all I think that any conscious entity can ever hope to do." HAL
visitor avatar This is brilliant and definitely on my Xmas list, all I need now is to find someone daft enough to pay £13 for this perfectly proportioned piece of plastic....
Bongo, United Kingdom - 7th December 2011
visitor avatar Being pedantic, how approximate are those dimensions? Because if its "properly proportioned" as 1:4:9, shouldn't it have dimensions of *exactly* 2cm x 8cm x 18cm, or something else in that ratio?
Ross Pavitt, Crawley - 16th August 2011
Firebox says: Hi Ross, that's not pedantic at all. We appreciate attention to detail at Firebox. The product is manufactured in inches and so when converted to centimetres we thought there may be too many decimal places for the average human mind to fathom so rounded to the nearest 0.5. However, since you asked the actual dimensions are 1.905cm x 7.62cm x 17.145cm
visitor avatar Yeah, okay, funny. But £13 is insulting.

visitor avatar Although I really love Firebox and use you guys all the times, some of your prices feel very unrealistic, like this item: £12. 99 for a solid piece of plastic and that doesn't even include delivery - it seems a little steep?
Neil K, Wiltshire - 25th May 2011
Firebox says: Definitely for the 2001: A Space Odyssey die-hards Neil, and we have Free Delivery!
visitor avatar So your basically buying a block of plastic???
