Love the idea of this. My colleagues regularly have to travel to Africa, where electricity can be a bit hit and miss, so this sounds ideal. One question - can it cope with charging a netbook? Thanks.Catherine Dellbridge, London - 16th January 2012
Firebox says: Hey Catherine, if the Netbook can charge from USB then Classic can power it.
Hi firebox, will this charge a Nokia C3-00?Ben, Antrim - 13th December 2011
Firebox says: Hi Ben, this should work with a Nokia C3-00
Hi Firebox, will this work if placed on a window sill?
Also will it charge the new Blackberry 9900 and a Nintendo DS?
Thank You :).Luke Hallam, Nottingham, UK - 28th November 2011
Firebox says: Hi Luke, this should be able to charge the Blackberry 9900 by microUSB, It comes with an adapter for the Nintendo DS Lite, and one for the original DS can be bought separately. There is not currently one for the DSi or 3DS.
It should work fine on a window sill, but obviously it does depend a bit on the weather.
I got my freeloader a couple months back, followed all the instructions, charged it via USB etc and it was all working fine. But since that charge it has always been on my windowsill, with the windows sometimes closed all day, sometimes open all day and I've never seen it get past 2 bars of charge on solar power alone. Is it faulty or does English weather just suck?!Peter, United Kingdom - 10th October 2011
Firebox says: Hey Peter, English weather does tend to suck, but your Freeloader Classic Solar Charger should be charging more than 2 bars! Drop us an email to info@firebox.com and we can arrange for a replacement to be sent out to you.
I had an earlier version of the Freeloader which is now retired (after 6 years of use and even a tour of duty in Iraq!). Yes its sun bleached from the old silver colour to a gold/bronze kind of colour, scratched as hell & the battery is dead now. But it did me proud, especially whilst out in Iraq (it's really sunny there!).
I had one bone of contention with Freeloader which I hope they have fixed... the little plastic pegs that hold the panels open. Did they ever upgrade them to metal pegs?
I'm hoping they did as I need a new solar charger for when I start Uni in September (Career change. Surprisingly I don't like being shot at!) and would be interested in the Freeloader if they improved the one and only flaw I ever saw.Jay, Buckinghamshire, UK - 30th August 2011
Firebox says: Great review Jay, glad to hear it served you so well! Unfortunately the current units don't appear to have been upgraded (still the same pegs), however maybe on future models.
Will this work on the iPad 2?Andrew, Runcorn, Cheshire - 23rd July 2011
Firebox says: It will!
Will I need to buy any accessories to use this with the IPhone 4 and the IPad 2?Rach, Suffolk - 23rd July 2011
Firebox says: The iPod dock connection is an additional accessory, however an iPhone/iPod connection is included with the charger.
Hi Firebox,
will this charge the new Samsung Galaxy s2 mobile phone.Ali, Leicestershire - 3rd July 2011
Firebox says: Whilst you can never be certain with new phones, it has charged all previous Samsungs so we don't think there would be any problems. We have a 30 day return policy if it is not able to charge it for you.
Took this whilst traveling over 2 summers (mainly camping across U.S.A) and worked a treat when no plugs were on site. Charging was easy to as when driving, it just sat on my dashboard!! :D.Abby, England - 1st July 2011
Firebox says: Cheers Abby, that's great to hear!
Will this charge an iphone 4??Vic, Brighton - 26th June 2011
Firebox says: It will, it can't charge it to 100%, but you should be able to get roughly 18 hours of use out of it with a charge from this.
