All Mighty Magnet picking up some magnetic thinking putty

Available to buy
with an Almighty Magnet!

Thinking Putty's unique properties mean it doesn't react quite like any other substance known to man. It will bounce, but with enough force it will also shatter. It will stretch, but you can also tear and snap it. But most incredible of all is that this particular putty is mysteriously magnetic! As David Coleman used to say, "Quite remarkable".

There's very little that can't be achieved with a tin of Thinking Putty and the bare minimum of effort:
  • It bounces...
  • It stretches and squishes...
  • It lifts print from newspapers...
  • It snaps, crackles and pops...
  • It shears and tears...
  • It melts and drips...
  • It even shatters!
What's more, Magnetic Thinking Putty has unique and mind-blowingly awesome magnetic properties. Each piece is embedded with millions of tiny micromagnets. When the putty is stretched, moulded, or shaped, these magnets all face in random directions. This cancels out their magnetic charge and behaves like all any other Thinking Putty.

Here's just some of the many tricks you can do using Strange Attractor:
  • Attract a magnet or other pieces of Strange Attractor
  • Repel a magnet and then attract it back again
  • Lock a tendril in space against gravity
  • Reveal the shape of the field lines emanating from a permanent magnet
  • Move, roll, and lift a magnet from a distance
  • Melt around a magnet and the putty will actually lift it off the table
Magnetic Thinking Putty 3

3" and 4" tins available

Magnetic Thinking Putty is perfect for stress and tension relief, as a desktop or office toy and as a cure for boredom. Now, thanks to Firebox, you can own a tin packed with around 90g of the stuff, ready to put to work for whatever cause you see fit.

Watching people react to Putty is truly a unique experience. Maybe you just look at it, hesitant to touch something that might be "sticky" or "gooey". Perhaps you aren't comfortable playing with a toy in front of your workmates? Eventually, though, your subconscious wins over, it'll be in your hands, and you'll never put it down! Squeezing, stretching, and shaping. You won't even realize it's there! As it melts your stress away your creative potential will be unleashed!

...Once you pick Thinking Putty up, you won't put it down.

Description

How does it do that?!
Thinking Putty is a dilatant compound, (which means it becomes solid under the influence of pressure), and it displays four different properties on four different time scales:
  • At very long timescales, it behaves like a liquid spreading out onto a flat surface.
  • At moderate timescales, Thinking Putty stretches like a plastic solid.
  • At short timescales, it bounces like an elastic solid.
  • At very short timescales (the impact of a high-speed projectile), Thinking Putty simply shatters.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: What am I supposed to do with Thinking Putty?
A: There are so many potential uses we couldn't possibly list them all, but here is a suggestion to start with: Bring your new Thinking Putty to work and leave it on your desk. You'll find yourself tearing off a handful and using it to relieve stress while your brain ponders infinite creative possibilities. Soon after, you'll find your own unconscious energies breaking through - creativity you didn't even know you had.

Sculptures and Dali-esque designs will flow from your own hands and work may even be transformed into... fun.

Q: If I bring the Thinking Putty to work, will people think that I am incredibly cool?
A: Yes, they will. We (almost) guarantee it. Your coworkers will most likely try to steal some Thinking Putty off your desk. Thinking Putty in the hands of others creates uncontrollable and insane jealousy. Perhaps they will try to befriend you and weasel their own adult-size handful of putty from your personal supply.

Q: Then what happens?
A: Eventually you will probably want to order more Thinking Putty to feed the habits of yourself and your co-workers. (This is Firebox.com's plan for world domination). Shortly afterwards, you will become a self-proclaimed monarch of a new Thinking Putty fiefdom. Your office will begin to look like a Dali workshop with Thinking Putty dripping from the ceilings. The unleashed and unbridaled creative force of your workplace will make you all unstoppable.

Q: Is that true?
A: Well, you'll develop stronger hands at least. The rest is up to you and your imagination. Buy some Thinking Putty and see for yourself!

visitor avatar I'm on two minds about this. On the one hand, if you use it like any other thinking putty it's great (although it's a LOT stiffer than the others) but on the other hand the magnetism doesn't seem very strong at all. Could you advise me how to get the most out of it? E. G. How do you 'lock a tendril in space against gravity' I am using some strong magnets but the putty can barely move them, and it won't attract or repel itself. Do you need to let the putty settle for a very long time then try not to stretch it? Thank you.
Sarah, Wirral - 2nd February 2012
Firebox says: Hi Sarah, have a read here: http://www.puttyworld.com/magnets.html Gives a few tips but it does need quite strong magnets so I've been told.
visitor avatar Hi I got this but wwhen I opedned the tim there was a small amount of putty and there was no magnet. After anout 3 hours the putty turned hard and it was immposible to use.
Milan George, Jakarta - 24th December 2011
Firebox says: Oh dear! please get in contact with us on info@firebox.com and we can resolve this for you!
visitor avatar Hi, I really want to get this but it says in the description3" and 4" tins available', but only 3" is shown. I really want to get a 4"why is it not shown?
Elvin, Wiltshire - 6th July 2011
Firebox says: It's currently out of stock Elvin, but you can always place a preorder.
visitor avatar This is a question of Firebox. My son has got the magnetic putty on his favourite top and it has sunk into the material and appears to have stained it. The tin says to contact the website for tips of how to get it out of clothing but I can't find anything. Please help! :).
Jane Aikman, Luton - 8th January 2011
Firebox says: If you go to http://www.thinking-putty.co.uk/ and click on the FAQ towards the bottom of the page, there are helpful instructions for how to remove it.
visitor avatar If I mix up magnetic putty and another putty what will happen to the magnetic putty, will it have the same power as the original one?
Dennis Vella, Malta - 27th December 2010
Firebox says: The magnetic putty will still be magnetic, but it will be neutralised by being with the non-magnetic putty, so wouldn't be very effective.
visitor avatar Was a bit disappointed with this item. It looks like the tin is crammed full of thinking putty but in reality, when you open the tin, there is a small blob. I got the strange attractor thinking putty and think the product review of it seems to seriously overhype the attractor properties. Overall, not worth the £9. 99 I paid for it.
Kara, Glasgow - 26th December 2010
visitor avatar Love this stuff!! I got bought the magnetic one with magnet and it is legend! Only question I have is mine doesn't seem to really behave like a liquid that much and doesn't really spread out after leaving for 10 minutes on a flat surface, is this normal?
Kieran Webber, Southampton - 16th December 2010
Firebox says: It should spread out for you. If you're still having problems drop us an e-mail to info@firebox.com and we'll look into it further for you.
visitor avatar To be honest, I was a bit disappointed with this. I bought the 4" magnetic strange attractor putty. Firstly, don't let the pictures fool you, you get a small lump of putty whereas the picture makes it seem like the tin is completely full. Secondly the reported magnetic properties that did not pick up "lightweight metal objects" as described. Overall, for £10 for some glorified blu-tack, it's a let down.
KK, Glasgow - 3rd December 2010
Firebox says: Sorry to hear that KK, if you are wanting to return the product then send as an e-mail to info@firebox.com
visitor avatar Wow that putty is weird. I got strange attractor it is really strange seeing it move about like that. One thing I will say is that you should get it with the mighty magnet. Will be getting more for presents:D One question - what do electrics and illusions do?
Matthew, Scotland - 1st November 2010
Firebox says: The 'electrics' have a marbelised colour effect and the illusions seem to constantly change colour.
visitor avatar I bought the scarab and magnetic tins and they are remarkable! Scarab is my favourite - I've had it for a year and I'm planning to get some more. Another legendary firebox product!
