Wearing a blank Paper Watch

Don't be boring, get doodling...

So what if your watch is waterproof to 5000 fathoms, hand-crafted by Swiss boffins and capable of measuring atmospheric conditions across several time zones? Because no matter how much you paid for it, we doubt it’s unique. And that’s where the Paper Watch comes in.

Cheap but by no means common, this ingenious digital watch is encased in tear resistant paper-style material with a matching strap that you can customise with any doodlings, designs or scrawlings you fancy. Simply get busy with a pen, paintbrush, stencil or whatever. Think of it as a blank canvas you wear on your wrist.

Some Paper Watch designs

Some inspiration

The possibilities are endless: bling it up like a Rolex, draw on your favourite cartoon characters, attempt a self portrait, adorn it with infantile musings or buy several and give ‘em out as personalised party invites for tardy guests. You could even leave yours blank and get everyone who asks you the time to do their worst with a felt-tip. After all, time is an abstract concept.

visitor avatar I bought one of these as a present for my mother, as she collects watches, and I am an artist. Unfortunately, it seems the most accurate word in the product description is "cheap" - this "tear resistant paper-like material" is very flimsy and easy to tear (in fact, there were several tears in it already when I removed it from it's significantly higher-quality packaging. ) The watch mechanism fits poorly within the watch body and has exposed contacts when you remove it - and it seems to flash randomly between the current time (4:26 as I type this) and an entirely random unconnected time (11:21, as I write this. ) There are no controls to change the time or prevent this happening. Very disappointing indeed.

Firebox says: Hi David, we're really sorry about the problems you've experienced with your Paper Watch. It sounds like you may have received a faulty one so please get in touch with us at info@firebox.com and we should be able to help!
visitor avatar Hey firebox. Just a quick question. Will pencil easily rub of this? or will it be a bit more tricky than regular paper?
Dewi, - 26th September 2011
Firebox says: It's definitely a bit trickier to erase than normal paper, Dewi.
visitor avatar This is fab. The perfect way to give someone a completely unique customisable gift. I was scared to draw on mine at first because I wanted to make it look good, but if you sketch lightly in pencil first and go over in black pen after you can barely see if you make a mistake. The only problem is that the notches that go into the strap get easily crumpled, so you do have to be careful when taking it on and off.

visitor avatar Can you get replacement straps so you can customise it multiple times? :).
Sarah, Glasgow - 31st March 2011
Firebox says: I'm afraid not- its designed to be used once- so make it count!
visitor avatar Hey what size is the watch will it fit all sizes :).
Tom Woakes, Birmingham - 15th March 2011
Firebox says: They should fit all sizes
visitor avatar Great idea, but the watch I received didn't work properly! And I didn't find this out until I'd given it to my friend as a present, very disappointing.
Jessany Wooding, Hackney, London - 15th March 2011
Firebox says: Email us at info@firebox.com and we'll try to fix this for you.
visitor avatar These look really cool and thinking of getting one too and do you know where you can get any waterproof pens ? :).
Lauren, England - 19th February 2011
visitor avatar Hey firebox, would the strap rip if it's like paper??
Charlotte Whitchurch, Newark On Trent - 18th February 2011
Firebox says: It's a tear resistant paper-style material
visitor avatar Good idea, I might just do that. Thanks!
Joshhhh, GB - 17th February 2011
visitor avatar Will it rub off/ smudge/ run easily?
Isobelle, - 31st January 2011
Firebox says: You can't rub it off once it's on. In terms of smudginess and whether it runs, that's down to the pens you use, we would recommend waterproof pens if this might be an issue.
