Do your movies and photos feel a little flat? Lacking in visual oomph? Then prepare to step into a whole new dimension with the jaw-droppingly, eye-poppingly impressive Aiptek 3D HD Camcorder.

This amazing compact camera utilises two lenses and two sensors to capture stunning high definition (1280x720) 3D video and stills. But you won’t need special glasses to view your handiwork on the fly because the Aiptek’s on-board 2.4” display boasts a built-in 3D filter. Impressive? You’ll be poking its screen to make sure the third dimension is just an illusion.

If you’re posh enough to own a 3D TV you can enjoy your movies straight away, no glasses required. Just get connected via the Aiptek’s HDMI socket. ‘Look out, incoming beach ball!’

If you want to view your footage on a standard 2D computer or TV, just pop on the included red/cyan specs and make sure you convert the footage beforehand using the Aiptek’s super-intuitive embedded software. The whole process is smoother than a gravy sandwich.

Okay the shades look a bit daft, but who cares about funny face furniture when you’re watching little Johnny’s first steps or gazing at some numpty falling off a skateboard in glorious 3D. You can even paint the family blue and head to the nearest forest for Avatar: The Remix.

Plugs into your computer via a flip out USB connector

Of course you’ll want to share your astonishing 3D movies and stills with the rest of the world so the Aiptek plugs into your computer via a flip out USB connector. Pals can even watch uploaded vids on YouTube 3D (3D glasses required). Wow!

Did we mention that this groundbreaking cam also takes high quality snaps and vids in good ol’ 2D? Probably not, but that’s only because we’re so excited by the incredible depth and realism of all this 3D business.

Unsurprisingly the idiot-proof Aiptek is powered by a rechargeable battery (1.5 hours recording time) and movies are stored to memory card (SD/SDHC/MMC). It also features a built-in stereo microphone and speaker. In fact the only thing it doesn’t feature is an integrated dustpan and brush to sweep up your popped-out eyeballs. Seeing is disbelieving!

Visitor Reviews...

visitor avatar Given that the movement on the camera lags and it's such a pixelated picture along with the several purple dots that appear on screen mine will be going back 5 mins after coming out of the box, shame seemed so promising but HD? I'm just not wow'd.

visitor avatar This was a rubbish 3D Video, and it was sooooo pixely....

visitor avatar Being a huge tech fan I just have to have the latest thing and that often means buying tech before its completely 'there'. The Aiptek 3D camcorder is a good example of this - the 3D stills are great, but the video is a little jumpy and not great outside of bright or natural lights. That said - its £1200 cheaper than the 'real deal' and its out now - so if you are looking to bridge the gap until you can get full spec 3D camcorders at a decent price and you don't want to be limited to stills then this is what you need.... Firebox delivery and service was outstanding and I haven't put it down since it arrived this morning. Enjoy!
Chris Jones, Southampton - 11th September 2010
visitor avatar As I am new to 3D filming I don't know if the jerky nature of the movies when filmed with the camera in my hand is due to it having 2 lenses but when filming using a tripod the image quality is great. Lighting should be a major consideration if you plan to view movies in red and cyan (anaglyst) for me daylight is best, colour wise. For the money this is excellent purchase and will add a whole new dimension to family and other movie projects :o).
James, London - 10th September 2010
visitor avatar This would be good little camera for those wanting to enter the 3D photo and video world if it did not unfortunately have some flaws. I found the image on screen which is used as the viewfinder to be almost impossible to see in bright sunlight as it was so dim. This meant that I had to take videos and pictures more or less 'blind', hoping that I got the shots I wanted. The video quality was also quite poor with one of the most jerky zooms I have used on a video camera. On the plus side however the 3D stills the camera produced were excellent.
Michael Sorrell, Isle Of Man - 27th August 2010
visitor avatar I am extremely disappointed in the quality of the video produced in 3D. Stills produced in 3D are of a higher quality and are generally acceptable, which almost makes this camcorder acceptable as a 3D stills camera. But thats not really what its designed for is it. You do get what you pay for and if you don't expect much when you order the camcorder you won't be disappointed, its a toy but certainly not something you'd want to display through your expensive 3D TV to impress your friends.
Andrew Deacon, Marlow - 17th August 2010
visitor avatar Quite simply - this is great. I thought this might be a little simple - but it takes good pictures and good quality video - plus the 3D screen works well (takes 5 mins to get used to it though). A great alternative to the Fuji 3D camera - this is lightweight, feels robust and you do find yourself wanting to put your finger into the screen - it works that well! Only gripes are that it works much better in natural light than indoors and you can hear the 'click' of the joystick being moved when zooming. :).
