Until recently Earth-based intergalactic warriors had to do battle with broomsticks whilst making imbecilic whooshing noises. Failing that they bought pricey pretend lightsabers. But not any more because the cape-billowingly cool Special FX Saber is here and it’s only a tenner. Talk about de Jabba dee wanna wonga!
Despite its bafflingly low price, this rubber-handled 70cm weapon features all the pshwooing, wuhmming sound effects you know and love. It even makes that spine-tingling ‘striking’ sound and changes colour when you wave it at a space monster (played by the cat) or a behelmeted baddie (played by the mother-in-law).
Of course hokey weapons and ancient religions are no match for a good blaster at your side, but try telling that to Darth Firebox (aka the boss) or our young apprentice (aka the work experience bod), both of whom have felt the force thanks to this amusing little sci-fi rapier. Ouch!

Bought 2 of these as Christmas gifts for my kids and obviously had to try them out. Absolutely fantastic. Sounds are brilliant and the lights changing good as well.
Found myself prowling round the living room in Jedi Training mode fighting imaginary Dark Forces.

Very light and feels quite durable. The grip feels solid and helps you to grip the saber without throwing it while swinging it, (well unless you have the Force Throw ^_^ ) The sounds are quite like the Master Replica ones but it makes the clashing sound far too often, so often the it does it whether you swing it or not. Also, can you get replacement bulbs for this saber? Overall 3/5 because you cant stop the rapid colour change and the clashing sound is too often while it's idle.Max, Fife - 6th September 2011
