Kodak Playsport

Waterproof up to 3 meters

If the gods of photography had wanted us to capture high def video on the move and underwater, they’d have created a pocket-size rechargeable HD video camera with an appetite for adventure. Well, guess what? They have.

Already the darling of the tech press, the ultra rugged Kodak Playsport has been produced with action-loving movie moguls in mind. Waterproof up to 3 metres, this feature-packed cam is ideal for sub-aquatic shenanigans, capturing your exploits beneath and above the waves in full 1080p HD. You can even take 16:9 widescreen stills at 5MP and get up close and personal via a 4x digital zoom.

Kodak Playsport

USB connectivity

But it’s not all about shooting fish, lycra and plugholes. The idiot-proof Playsport is ideal in virtually any outdoor scenario. Its ergonomically designed tactile rubber casing will withstand bumps, scrapes and even the occasional full-on fumble. Take it skiing, climbing, to festivals or even *gasp* the pub. Don’t worry about blurry footage because clever image stabilization ensures movies remain crystal clear, no matter what adrenaline-shredding antics you get up to.

Built-in software and USB connectivity make uploading, editing and sharing simple. YouTubing and Facebooking those Speedos-round-the-ankles movies has never been easier. You can also review your handiwork on the fly via the Playsport’s high-contrast 2” LCD screen. It’ll even playback in slow-mo.

Kodak Playsport

Records to SD cards up to 32GB!

Speaking of screens, the Playsport boasts an ingenious function that reduces glare in bright sunshine. No squinting required. Did we also mention it comes with an HDMI cable for high def TV playback? Well it does, so there.

In all this excitement we almost forgot to tell you that vids are recorded to removable SD or SDHC cards (up to 32GB holding 10 hours of footage*). There is also 128MB of internal memory to get you started.

Using the Playsport HD, a tad bit windy though. Jack climbing on a 7a+ on a particularly hard move, he does get it eventually.

visitor avatar Can you pause it while recording?
Michael Bradley, Magherafelt, Ireland - 25th January 2011
Firebox says: You can indeed.
visitor avatar Can I buy another battery for going away?? if so how much ??
Alex Leighton, Jersey - 15th January 2011
visitor avatar What temperatures can it withstand? I'm going snowboarding in the new year and was wondering if this little beauty could withstand being dropped in snow? These things happen!
TimmyD, Swansea - 30th December 2010
Firebox says: It's pretty rugged Timmy, although we wouldn't drop it down a ravine.
visitor avatar I bought this camera for a climbing holiday hoping to get some good clips, it worked perfectly for that, the only quibbles I had was that the zoom isn't the greatest of qualities, for landscape shots its great but as soon as you zoom in the quality is lost and it tends to blur a little. Also, where I was staying was absolutely freezing, so it wouldn't charge to begin with due to the cold, so I had to rest it on a hot water bottle so it would charge...
Vikki, Warrington - 27th December 2010
visitor avatar Bought one of these for my weekend away, was happy snapping a few pics here and there, then decided to venture into the pool with it where it leaked and then refused to turn on... not too pleased :(.
Keiran, Weymouth - 9th December 2010
Firebox says: Sounds like there may be a fault there Keiran, unless you were trying to break the world record for free-diving! Drop us an email at info@firebox.com and we can get this resolved.
visitor avatar Great little video camera. Easy to hold and use, robust and got simple menus. A shame cant get spare batteries here and also, can you get those sticky screen protector thingies for it, cos when I'm on my bike/splashing in the mud (yea, I'm 37!) I'm liable to drop it, screen side down.
Big Dave, Rotherham - 25th October 2010
visitor avatar 5 stars, good quality, fits in your hand perfectly, and underwater feature is also good so you don't have to stop filming when raining (a classic British annoyance).
Deano, Hull - 24th October 2010
visitor avatar I bought the Playsport for a holiday where I would need to take photos in the sea. I didn't expect too much from the camera, I was wrong, the photo/video quality was great, I used this instead of my normal camera. It was small, lightweight and fit easily into my shorts pocket. Whilst on slides in waterparks or in the sea I easily slipped the camera into my swimming costume. The video was really good, great in water, under water and on land. I was really impressed. People couldn't believe the price and size. No need to worry about The Playsport. It's robust and has a great casing. The Playsport stood up to everything. The Playsport really impressed me I personally think it takes some beating for the price.
Deborah Payton, UK - 21st September 2010
visitor avatar Can you put a gorilla pod on it.
Jacob, United Kingdom - 16th September 2010
Firebox says: Yes, it has a tripod mount.
visitor avatar Does the Playsport have a camera tripod attachment?
Alfie Johnson, London - 16th September 2010
Firebox says: Yes, it has the standard 1/4 inch tripod mount.
