Mmm... warmth
Brought to you by the bods behind the world’s most iconic lighter, this gleaming hand warmer looks like the kind of thing James Dean might have used to warm his mitts. But the Zippo is more than just a pretty face because it radiates serious heat without a flame, as it cleverly utilises a technique called catalytic combustion. It’s like having a full-on fire in your pocket without all the coal, twigs and messy burny bits.
Warming bag
Operating the Zippo is easier than losing your gloves. Simply remove the lid, light the burner, wait for the clever indicator bar to turn red (there’s no flame, remember), pop it back in its protective warming bag (this baby gets really hot) and Jack Frost’s your second uncle twice removed. Mmm... instant warmth.
Weighing in at a mere 272 grams, the Zippo is ideal for campers, skiers, fishermen, mountaineers, football fans, festival goers and anyone else prone to chilly mitts. Blowing into cupped hands? Bah! Fondling a Zippo is where it’s at.
Surely the coolest way to stay warm in these chilly climes, the Zippo is destined to become the hand warmer of choice amongst sub-zero trend setters across the land. So hit the Buy button (assuming you can get your mittens off) and get your mitts on one pronto.

Is it true that you have to buy a lighter and fuel to get this working?Ethan Woolley, Bristol - Aug '10
Firebox says: Yes Ethan, fluid is not included.
Hey firebox, I just read the features of this nifty little device and you say that 'its Reusable' I just wanted to know if the burner needs replacing after every use or does it mean something else?Josh, Swindon - May '10
Firebox says: The burner will last approximately 80 full burns and replacement's can be purchased from Zippo.
Just received my hand warmer, bought for my daughter who does archery and this is perfect for them cold days. So good, I've just ordered another one for myself. 10/10. Very speedy delivery too.Andy Mayor, Wigan - Mar '10
My girlfriend works outdoors so I spotted this on Firebox and figured it was worth a go. The great news is that this unit kicks out LOTS of heat for a very long time. For the first use I only filled it half full and was a little disappointed that it only ran for around 4 hours and not the 6 stated. However, subsequent runs were much better - the next time around I filled it to the upper limit and instead of giving me 12 hours of heat it actually kept going for almost 20 hours. Much more like it. The hand warmer is nicely designed and is simple to use. A bit of care is required when filling it with fuel but once this is done it's a doddle to get the thing lit - just apply a flame to the side of the catalyst for 5-7 seconds and when you remove the flame the catalyst continues to glow orange. Slide the cover back on the top, place the whole unit into the provided bag and away you go. I'd definitely recommend this to others, particularly those who have to either work or have hobbies that are outside.Peter West, Grimsby - Mar '10
I bought this item for myself as I work outside all the time and it really does work well and you can regulate how many hours you want it burning for via the amount of juice you fill it with. Excellent product.Richard, Sennybridge - Mar '10
I bought one of these a few years ago from America (this is the first UK site I have seen offering these) and they are incredible, much better than the alternative crack and re-boil hand warmers, this one lasts all day and to refill just needs some more lighter fuel and away you go. Would highly recommend this product to anyone who enjoys the outdoors.Peter Drake, Southampton - Mar '10
I bought this for my wife for a Mother's day present and she was over the moon with it. It really does what it says on the tin. I still can't work out how it does it but it is alot nicer to handle than charcoal burners that ive used in the past. I knew from the name zippo that it would be first class and it was.Carleton Blackwell, Scotland - Mar '10
Extremely light (compared to other hand warmers i've had, it weighs nothing!) The only smell is if you spill the lighter fluid, or stick your nose in the bag.
It's simple to measure an amount to last you anywhere from 1 to 12 hours. None of this handwarmer burning for 8 hours when you're just nipping to the shop. Looks excellent too. You don't have to hide this one away till the next frost appears. A perfect handwarmer that's simple to use, looks good, and works brilliantly. For gadget freaks, OOOOHHH SHINY!!Brian, Warrington - Mar '10
Bought this for my dad who suffers with diabetes and subsequently poor circulation. He often has freezing hands and can never get them warm...Until now. Really easy to use once you get to grips with it, bigger than I expected and it gets really hot!. Much better than those plastic gel handwarmers.Stewart Liversidge, London - Mar '10
Firebox says: Under the advisement of D Crook (medical student) we would recommend that diabetics be careful when using these because they develop neuropathy and cannot feel the heat. Hence, they are more prone to causing themselves serious burns as they cannot feel when they are being burnt.
Will it be too hot to keep inside gloves? I was thinking of buying two to keep inside motorbike gloves.Richard, Nottingham - Mar '10
Firebox says: It might be too hot directly on your hands depending on your sensitivity to heat but it would be great for warming up your gloves before riding. Alternatively try our Hot Packs.
