Zippo Hand Warmer

Mmm... warmth

Cold hands, warm heart? What claptrap. If your hands are cold, everything else is brass monkeys too. That’s why a decent hand warmer is just the ticket. But keeping warm and looking cool isn’t easy. So thank goodness the ultra stylish Zippo Hand Warmer is such hot stuff!

Brought to you by the bods behind the world’s most iconic lighter, this gleaming hand warmer looks like the kind of thing James Dean might have used to warm his mitts. But the Zippo is more than just a pretty face because it radiates serious heat without a flame, as it cleverly utilises a technique called catalytic combustion. It’s like having a full-on fire in your pocket without all the coal, twigs and messy burny bits.

Zippo Hand Warmer

Warming bag

Thanks to a platinum catalysed glass fibre burner (no, not a clue), the gorgeously crafted Zippo can produce up to ten times more heat than rival hand warmers and lasts up to 12 hours with a single 12ml filling of lighter fuel. Amazing!

Operating the Zippo is easier than losing your gloves. Simply remove the lid, light the burner, wait for the clever indicator bar to turn red (there’s no flame, remember), pop it back in its protective warming bag (this baby gets really hot) and Jack Frost’s your second uncle twice removed. Mmm... instant warmth.

Weighing in at a mere 272 grams, the Zippo is ideal for campers, skiers, fishermen, mountaineers, football fans, festival goers and anyone else prone to chilly mitts. Blowing into cupped hands? Bah! Fondling a Zippo is where it’s at.

Surely the coolest way to stay warm in these chilly climes, the Zippo is destined to become the hand warmer of choice amongst sub-zero trend setters across the land. So hit the Buy button (assuming you can get your mittens off) and get your mitts on one pronto.

visitor avatar These are great :) we got one each (so no fights) and can't believe how long they stay warm for. They seem to stay warmer if you pop them out of the bag every now and again, to get a bit of air around it. If you pull the wee string too tight, they don't seem to stay as warm.
Emma, N.I - 8th February 2012
visitor avatar More a question than a review as I have not had the chance to use this. Got this as a present for Christmas and only just taken it out the box as not really been cold enough to warrant its use. However I have now discovered the protective bag thing is not in the box. Is there something I can use instead as I am assuming it is past time that I can send it back for a replacement (even if I can get the receipt?) Any help would be great thanks.
Gordon, United Kingdom - 5th February 2012
Firebox says: Hi Gordon, really sorry to hear that your Zippo Hand Warmer didn't come with the warming bag, this is most bizarre. Not to worry, please drop us an email to info@firebox.com with your details and we'll see if we can get another one sent out to you.
visitor avatar Sounds like the lighting is an issue which is poorly explained by the manufacturers/agents. Why are they such a problem to light first time as many seem to be? Should we see a flame initially? Very poor explanations re lighting issues which are clearly commonplace. Not helped by a poor video -isn't it a bit stupid using a naked flame by a small container that has just held petrol? Come on Zippo, better support is needed as I believe fundamentally it is a good product.

visitor avatar My son bought me on of these hand warmers for Christmas and it is the best gadget I have had, really warm compared to other devices. I filled it and got ten hours use but even if I got less time it would still be amazing. I suffer fro Raynars syndome and my hands go white in the cold this is ideal and I would recommend it to anyone.
Dave Myers, UK - 15th January 2012
visitor avatar I bought one of these hand warmers despite all of the negative reviews as I know Zippo is such a good quality make and I am sooo glad I did. the first lighting was tricky but we used a candle and held it under the burner for a good while until it kicked off...it doesn't say how long it takes to light the first go which was a little confusing and we had to work on it for a while until we got it. We also made sure we put the first light on for the recommended 24hours in case it made a difference for future lights. i would recommend this to anyone who has the patience to read the instructions correctly and figure out how to work it. i got one for my bf and im going to order one for me and my dad. . They are brill!! 10/10.
Ashley, Scotland - 11th January 2012
visitor avatar Bought 2 of these one works perfectly the other will not light.
Pauline, Middlesbrough - 9th January 2012
Firebox says: Hi Pauline, Im am sorry to hear that, please drop us a line on info@firebox.com and we can get this fixed for you
visitor avatar I just got mine and I am not that happy with it. With the lid OFF it makes a lot of heat, with it on much less and in the bag is barely warm. Why is that ?
Pmk, Romania - 16th December 2011
Firebox says: Hey, sorry to hear you are not happy with your Zippo Hand Warmer. If you could drop us an email to info@firebox.com with your order details we can help you out further.
visitor avatar I have been using one of these for the last couple of weeks and it is amazing. They are not the easiest thing to get going if you use a Zippo lighter, but a butane torch (like one of the ones that run off disposable lighters) gets it going in no time. I must admit a little disappointment in the temperature output... about 40C/100F through the bag, but I suppose it is a hand warmer and not a finger cooker. A small tin is also a good idea - similar in size to a tobacco tin. Put the warmer in there when you are finished and it effectively "goes out" (not a good phrase as it isn't alight!) in a couple of minutes, meaning you can get several uses on a single fill.
MisterG, - 10th December 2011
visitor avatar After reading a lot of bad reviews thought I better share my opinion, i also think a lot of people are using it incorrectly yes it is a little awkward to fill, not once you've done it a few times the heat this puts out is unbelievable 80 uses doesn't sound many although it can be partially filled, more economical than throw away or re-useable as you have to melt these in boiling water.
Calla, Chesterfield - 7th December 2011
visitor avatar Bought as a present for my dad but was very disappointed. It was a nightmare to fill - the lighter fluid went everywhere. Then couldn't get it to light. Did eventually and it stayed warm for about 5 minutes then stopped. We tried it a few times on different occasions and got my uncle to look at it too with no luck. Have put it in a cupboard and gone back to throw away hand warmers :(.
