Freshly made Peanut butter

Peanut butter made from just peanuts – how did we do that?...

Ever wondered how peanut butter is made? In a nutshell (boom-boom!), thousands of squirrels are forced to gather nuts and crack them open with little hammers before chucking them in a gargantuan blender powered by chimps, who trundle away 24/7 on treadmills whilst elephant commandants crack the whip. All right, so that’s not entirely true. But it’s only slightly less implausible than the amazing Peanut Butter Maker.

Believe it or not, this compact contraption churns out deliciously gloopy, warm peanut butter in seconds. All you do is chuck in your nuts *insert suitably lame joke as required* and flip the switch. That’s it. No oils, fats or additives required. You can even choose between chunky or smooth. Willy flippin’ Wonka!

Although you’re probably drooling at the thought of all that salty/sweet peanuty goo, you can use any shelled nuts you fancy. How about cashews or pistachios? Or why not go for a touch of nutty decadence with a batch of macadamias? Who’d have guessed crushing your nuts could be so entertaining!

An ideal gift for peanut butter nutters or anyone who enjoys spreading pulverised nuttiness on their toast and bagels, this easy-to-clean, mains powered device is destined to become one of your favourite kitchen appliances. Processed peanut butter straight from the jar? Blurgh! Freshly ground gloop from your favourite nuts? Now you’re talking. Pass the toast, this thing’s the nuts!

NB: Yes, we’re fully aware of the whole legume/seed/nut debate, but for the sake of clarity we’ve used the term nut. Now clear off. And don’t forget your anorak.

press review Fresher than those jars that have been sitting around forever. Tastes good too, but not to those with nut allergies.

visitor avatar This is AMAZING. Santa got me one for Xmas and I absolutely love it! People have been asking about it... yeah sure it makes quite a bit of noise, but for what? 20 minutes? and the peanut butter that comes out it SOOOO tasty!!! Me and my friend decided to make some nutella-style butter and it was amazing! (If you want to try it, just crush some hazelnuts a bit first, pop them in the machine, then melt some chocolate and add the nut paste in! yum yum!!!) This is a must buy for nut lovers, I'm not gonna lie, it can be a bit of a pain to clean, especially where the little part where the butter comes out, but you can easily solve that problem with a bit of kitchen roll wrapped around a blunt knife :) 5/5. One of the best gifts I've ever received!

visitor avatar My daughter loves peanut butter but I made the mistake of not taking the skins off and even then I just added some butter to what came out and voila I still had peanut butter. It works great and as it has suckers on the underside once positioned in your kitchen you may be able to move it but not to easily knock it over another great product, thanks Firebox.

visitor avatar Could you fit a standard sized Peanut butter jar (like a Sun Pat or Whole Earth or somesuch) underneath this? I'd love to be able to give peanut butter to friends & family. I care about the loss of Orangutan's habitat to Palm Oil groves and am rather disgusted that even a well known supposedly green company uses Palm Oil in its products (I no longer consider them a green company because of this) so this machine would give me a way for me and family and friends to enjoy our Peanut Butter & Jam sandwiches without killing apes.

Firebox says: We would advise using the tub provided and then transfering it into other jars once you have made the peanut butter. Hope that helps!

visitor avatar I own this awful machine. This does not make peanut butter. It makes a terrible racket and a malodorous smell of burning plastic. I turned it off before it caught fire. The only edible thing that comes out is a dusty, dry paste that cannot, by any stretch of the imagination, be called 'butter'. It is also NOT easy to clean. Firebox, did you actually try using this thing? You should be ashamed you even have it on your website, let alone be parroting the manufacturer's claims. It damages your otherwise fine reputation. I feel totally ripped off. If I could find the star-rating thing in this review system, I'd give it 0 stars. How on earth it claims 4. 55 out of 5. 00 I have no idea, but I suspect shenanigans.

Firebox says: Hi Richard, We have sold a large volume of Peanut Butter Makers and had a low rate of returns for the product. The unit was tested by our buyers and recommendations on ease of use were made accordingly. We will be happy to replace this faulty unit for you once the item comes back in to stock. visitor avatar When it arrived it was smaller than I'd expected, but that was a goo thing. I don't have the largest kitchen, so the fact that it would take up less counter space when out and less cupboard space when stored was a good thing. Before I started it up I flipped through the manual which wasn't very big, and it seemed straight forward. However, the manual failed to point out the suction cups on the base, which I quickly learned are crucial. This thing jumps all over the counter unless those suction feet are firmly attached! I also quickly learned this thing is LOUD! Don't plan on letting someone watch telly in the next room even with the kitchen door closed while this thing is operating. But it was fun to see it working. The peanut butter it made was pretty average, but the cashew butter was fantastic. If you just want peanut butter, just buy it. But it seems worth it to make nut-butters you cannot get at the supermarket. I wouldn't recommend it if you like your peanut butter really smooth. I am glad that I prefer crunchy, even on the smooth setting, it had a few bigger bits remaining in the mixture. Finally, washing up wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. Yes, it did come apart easily, and it only took some soapy water (you cannot put it in a dishwasher) but it wasn't easy to get the residue out from the crevices within the hopper or the grinder. Overall it was fun, and we will use it just to make something different, but the loudness and the difficulty cleaning mean it scores fewer stars than it could have.

visitor avatar Is it dishwasher safe?

Firebox says: Yes, the detachable parts are.

visitor avatar Got this for my birthday a week ago, its brilliant just made some pistachio butter, amazing on hot toast! It's noisy but it's gotta puree nuts, so its not meant to be silent. Weird but I've not actually tried peanuts yet but their on my ever growing list.
Dan Johnson, Orpington - Dec '09
visitor avatar Can you use coconuts in it?!
Darren Skidmore, United Kingdom - Dec '09
Firebox says: Just as long as you remove the shells.

visitor avatar Have you tried putting Dave's Burning Nuts into it for a spicy alternative?
Gareth Perriam, Liverpool - Dec '09
visitor avatar My gods, but it's loud! That aside, it's fairly easy to use, although the first attempts will leave you trying to figure out exactly how big is too big on the nut size. Issue resolved by smashing the bag almost flat with a rolling pin and pouring the bits in to the maker. Yay for the use of acceptable violence to resolve a kitchen related issue. Anyway, the other half.. LOVES it and has been preparing several different types of nut (using the aforementioned rolling pin technique.) As he's a diabetic with an insanely sweet tooth .. it's very good to know that THIS peanut butter wont have any of those nasty extras which have the potential to make him very poorly indeed.
