Set to revolutionise picnics, packed lunches and long journeys, the Bento Box comprises two stackable compartments, a 0.6L top section and a 0.35L lower section, so you can mix and match food, putting hot nosh in the top and cold stuff in the bottom. Soup and salad? Mmm! Better still the top section has a removable dish with a central partition, allowing you to put curry or bolognese in one side and rice or pasta in the other. Butties in cling film? Blurgh!
Tucking into all kinds of culinary creations, anywhere you fancy, is simple. Three course Chinese banquet? No problem. Lamb hotpot with separate veg and dessert? A doddle. Chicken tikka masala with baked potatoes and salad? Peasy. Porridge with last night’s kebab and a side of coleslaw? Erm, if you want.
We think this miraculous container will reignite your love for homemade food. And if you currently fork out for a hot lunch every day it will pay for itself in no time. Here at Firebox HQ the Bento Box is already a huge hit – and chef’s not happy, because for once, everyone looks forward to lunchtime. Bon appetit!

Is the capacity how ever much I can actually fit inside of it? I know this is a stupid question, its just because a couple of time I have bought things with a such-and-such litre capacity, only to find that the inside actually holds a lot less of a capacity because they don't take off the amount extra from, say, the thickness of the product.
So basically, when it says 0. 6 litres, will that mean it will hold a 400 ml can of soup that will then have 200 ml of room left in it?Louise Green, Cov - 3rd July 2011
Firebox says: That's correct Louise, it can only the 400ml and still have 200ml room left - the 0.6L is the capacity after considering the thickness of the product.
I'm just wondering whether those people complaining that the food isn't hot are heating up the box before putting the food in?
If not then a large reason for the drop in temperature will probably be that the food is heating up the box first.
Maybe pour some hot water into it for a few minutes and then tip it out before putting hot food in?Dan, Carlisle - 21st March 2011
I need to address an issue that Firebox had not. Firebox and/or Bento Box have not once written this product will keep your food hot. To all the reviewers who mentioned this to be a problem, well I am sure Firebox and Bento Box are disappointed you weren’t happy with this. However I read the description and I got exactly what I read, the Bento Box is a fantastic aid for food. I can have warm food in places I normally wouldn’t. I think what Bento Box has achieved is fantastic, there are not many products like this available, not because no person had thought of it before but because it’s a difficult thing to pull off. Keeping solid food warm let alone hot is a mammoth task, it is impossible to maintain the core heat of a solid, therefore it will be warmer from the outside and colder inside.Robert Bridge, Liverpool - 23rd February 2011
Hmmm doesn't do exactly what it says on tin! Looks good, doesn't leak and it's an ideal size for packed lunches BUT it doesn't keep HOT stuff HOT.
Like other reviews, lukewarm is the best you can hope for, especially if you wait longer than 3 hours to tuck in.
It's much better and keeping cold stuff cool.Liz Poulter, Newcastle - 12th February 2011
Bought this yesterday for a ghost hunt on Friday night, thinking that this would be ideal since it'd mean I'd have something warm to eat during the night. I requested the fastest shipping and was thrilled to receive it this morning, but not so thrilled with the product. I'd read reviews that said it might not keep food piping hot, but at least warm for 4 hours. I decided to test it today and am glad I did. I cooked some noodles and put them in the bottom container at 9pm, piping hot. At 11pm, I decided to check on them and might as well have simply stuck the chopsticks in the middle as they were lukewarm at best, making it so that they stuck together in one large mass. Definitely not the 'warm' I had hoped for. Looks like I'll be sticking to sandwiches this weekend.Nikki, Co. Durham - 8th February 2011
I think this is a good product. I carry my food in with me and microwave at work - this enables me to have nice hot lunches and I guess a nice proper salad in the summer.
A tip I would add is that if you're on a diet, blue is a good colour to eat off - people eat less from blue plates, because it's not a colour found in nature!
The disadvantages of the product from my point of view is that the insulation makes the Bento box slightly heavy for commuting on the train, although there's no way that the food will leak out, and secondly I would have liked the smaller compartment to be big enough to hold a yogurt in it's plastic case, although to be fair, I could just buy a yogurt from a local shop.
Overall, four and a half stars out of five.David Mackie, Leeds - 11th January 2011
Firebox says: We are glad you like the product and many thanks for the tips!
After nuking it, then waiting 5 hours this keeps stuff lukewarm to warm, but definitely not hot. If warm food is good enough then this may be for you. The bigger bottom compartment, I think I may well buy a second Bento box, and have 1 small top compartment, and in the middle and the bottom have 2 bigger compartments, that way I can have a mega lunch!Steve, Newcastle - 12th December 2010
I bought this Bento box as the reviews were quite good. I microwaved my soup at 8am in the morning, in the Bento box, and by 12noon it was slightly warm. When I started eating it though it rapidly got cold. So, unless you can eat your lunch in about 2 minutes this is no good.Lucy Haskell, Southampton - 29th November 2010
I am wondering will the white one get stained if you put curry or beetroot in it? I just cant wait to use it!!!Rina, Leicestershire - 19th November 2010
Firebox says: The Bento box is stain resistant and product reviews have revealed even tomato soup doesn't stain it.
Re: Mr Abdul's question about the extra lid; I recently found that the grey bottom to the smaller top container does unclip to offer a second lid... So in fact the 0.95l set comes with 2 lids!Jemma, Bolton - 15th November 2010
Firebox says: Thanks Jemma, good info!
