GroBox
Biodegradable box of blooms
White Christmas
Even if the only thing you’ve ever buried in a cardboard box is Tiddles the cat, prepare to be pleasantly surprised because Grobox makes cultivating flowers and veg easier than digging a hole. Yes, really! Simply plant the entire bulb-laden shebang – biodegradable box and all – get busy with the watering can, and before you know it your borders or tubs will be blooming.
Herb Garden
Treehuggers will be welly deep in joy because the box itself is made from recycled cardboard and acts as an insulator, protecting plants from prolonged cold, ground frosts and pests (such as the aforementioned cat). It also releases special nutrients as it degrades, increasing the fertility of surrounding soil, so you can plant your Grobox virtually anywhere in the garden.
Winter Veg
If all this talk of gardening has got you reaching for your wellies in anticipation, it’s worth remembering that Groboxes make fantastic gifts for anyone who loves gardening but hates hard work – and that means almost everyone. You dig?

Got the grobox as a gift for Christmas. I'm not a very experienced gardener but I planted the grobox into a container and watered, then just waited and was astonished as I got plenty of variety in my vegetable grobox. From carrots to beans, peas and spinach.
Would highly recommend this product as a gift. Will be buying more for gifts, very easy.Sam Philburn, Cheshire - 17th January 2012
Out of four boxes we've had two actual plants. Many of the bulbs had withered in the boxes. We'd bought these in the sale so we knew we were taking a risk, but still....Andrew Bond, Warrington - 23rd August 2011
Firebox says: That doesn't sound great Andrew - they should be better than that! If you drop us an e-mail to info@firebox.com we'll see what we can do for you.
I bought my Mum a herb box for her birthday, and it is now in full bloom but it definitely isn't herbs! Pretty sure we've got the vegetable box growing. .RChad, GB - 5th July 2011
Firebox says: Sorry to hear that! If you'd like to drop us an email via info@firebox.com, we can see about fixing this for you.
Planted at right time of year (Christmas) only just starting to show now, white Christmas in June! This was a gift and to be quite frank I am slightly embarrassed. I would not recommend this product.Leanne Sharpe, Uttoxeter - 12th June 2011
Firebox says: Sorry to hear that Leanne, please let us know if we can help.
I planted a Herb GroBox in compost in a container in a room near a window. I kept it well watered and after about 2 months 1 plant came up it looks like it is a chive. I dug up the compost and found that the box had gone but the contents were still there with no signs of any growth.John Wallis, ORKNEY - 12th May 2011
Firebox says: Feel free to drop us an email via info@firebox.com John, and we can help sort this out.
I gave GroBoxes to a few friends last Christmas, the response was generally, 'did you get any instructions with it?' They all grew, but the only veg produced was a few broad beans! I assume the seedlings should have been spread out, but there was no instruction for this.
So although simple, not really any good for novice gardeners.Amew, West Midlands - 5th December 2010
I would like to buy 'White Christmas' as a Christmas present, however, I'm wondering if you plant them outside during winter do the flowers not die when it freezes?! Thanks.Sade, Lincolnshire - 30th October 2010
Firebox says: They are winter bulbs so you can plant them any time of the year but they will only begin to sprout around March. These particular flowers are all used to the cold!
I got a veggie box for Christmas. I waited for spring and planted it out. So far I have only had 5 broadbean plants grow. Very disappointing as it promised something for all seasons. All my regular veg grew much better and broadbeans are a piece of cake anyway. Would not recommend - 5 very expensive braodbean plants!Mandi, Gloucestershire - 7th October 2010
There's only one vegetable that I can identify from this and that's because my Broad Beans are HUGE.... They're massive and for the first time ever I've managed to grow something without it dying after a week.
Cant identify the rest, but I'm working on it. If there was one downside to this product it would be the lack of information regarding what's in the box and how to grow/harvest it. Otherwise this is the best gardening product you will ever buy.... Especially if you are anything but green fingered.Delan Rain, Nottingham - 25th July 2010
Well - this has been great fun - and we have some HUGE leaves in our garden now (we planted the veggie box). But sadly we have no idea on when to dig it up!
We tried digging 1 up - but we have no idea what it is!!
A big stalk that looks a little like celery but tastes like leaf, and just a hell of a lot of roots. Basically a fun product - but hey - we have NO idea what is growing, so have no idea when to harvest. Would advise against the vegetable one because it's a little pointless!Ushwin, London - 9th June 2010
