Moontent
Instant cover
On the beach!
But who can be bothered with all that confusing canvas and pole-pitching palaver? We know we can't. That's why we just love the ingenious Moontent. The clue's definitely not in the name because this nifty two-person tent simply pops open the second you release it's retaining straps. Then all you do is peg it down. Brilliant, right?

New: Now available in blue
Unlike some self-pitching tents, the Moontent is free from spring-loaded sliding catches, so you won't trap your fingers when it boings open. Even a first time camper can erect one in a couple of minutes - ideal if the rain starts pouring unexpectedly.
50cm - tiny!
In fact, talking of proper carry ons and camping, isn't it time you stopped messin' about and ordered a Moontent er…tent!

Do not buy! Waste of money. It is not waterproof (even after spraying it with fabsil). It does not stay up in the wind. It collapses under its own weight even with the guide line taut. I bought this because of its packed size. This is the first tent that I have bought that I have not actually bought back with me due to it being a pile of tosh.Andy Moore, Telford - 20th July 2011
That see through bit at the back, whats that for? surely ur going to want privacy?...does this tent have a double zip (so I can use a padlock?)...also how many pegs are required (i can see on several reviews that the ones provided are poor)...someone else has said get a tent cover and a ground cover? why? are the ones provided of poor quality too?...im going to benicassim and basically wana know weather or not this is suitable for me and my girlfriend? thanks.Paolo, Birmingham - 2nd June 2011
Firebox says: There is a window at the back that you can zip up for privacy, it's not suitable for use with a lock and comes with 6 pegs.
The test is ‘waterproof’ according to The British Army, however, realistically it is not suitable for torrential downpours that is probably why someone has suggested a ground and tent cover.
The good news:
-tent pops up so quickly and easily
-unlike most pop up tents it is no trouble to get back in the bag
-very lightweight
-for a 2 man tent...we got 5 people in there last night :)
The bad news:
-if put up incorrectly, the tent can fold in in the wind
-the pegs are flimsy (it is not difficult to buy better ones)
Overall, worth every penny, can't wait for the 3 festivals I've got this summer :D.Sam, Ulverston - 19th April 2011
Firebox says: Great review Sam!
Is that a see through area near the top? I hope not!Harry Barnes, Brentwood - 20th February 2011
Firebox says: It can be covered, Harry.
Can I ask if this tent is double skinned? Just in case you have some rain I want to know for extra protection on a four day festival.Luke, Crawley - 2nd July 2010
Firebox says: The tent is single layered and is considered waterproof, however it won't cope in torrential downpours.
Great tent, pops up in seconds, tent pegs are basic so buy some thicker one (most are like this) tent goes down easy once you get the hang of it. Camped out overnight with it and was soaked at 4am so is not 100% waterproof (was a real downpour) but for festivals (what I got it for) it's a cheap tent that will be okay in the summer. Recommend a ground cover and tent cover though.David Jennings, Colchester - 12th June 2010
Am I right in thinking the 215cm measurement is the length? I ask as I am 6 foot 4 and so I need to be able to lie down of course.Daniel, Manchester - 29th May 2010
Firebox says: Yes Daniel, have no fear, 215cm is the length.
Just wondering, are you able to lock this? I'm considering buying it for reading, just want to make sure my stuff doesn't get stolen!Nicole, UK - 29th March 2010
Firebox says: No, there's no lockable features, sorry.
I haven't bought this product yet, but this seems the only place to ask questions about it. Does this tent close up, because from the pictures it only shows it being open?! is there like a zip up front or anything?!Ryan, Bournemouth - 3rd October 2009
Firebox says: Yes it does (the 'door' is open and stretched out on the floor in the photos)
Quite possibly the best pop up tent about. Took it to Reading festival 2009 and it managed to withstand the rain and intense winds with ease, it's insanely sturdy. Internal space isn't an issue either, plenty of room for two plus any possessions. I'd fully recommend it.Charlie, Hertfordshire - 2nd October 2009
