Moontent

On the beach!

Tents have been around for so long they even get a mention in the Old Testament. But although tent technology has grown by leaps and bounds over the millennia, you still need the patience of Job to put the pesky things up. A shame, because nothing beats climbing into a cosy tent after a hard day's hike or an evening spent wading around the festival campsite.

But who can be bothered with all that confusing canvas and pole-pitching palaver? We know we can't. That's why we just love the ingenious Moontent. The clue's definitely not in the name because this nifty two-person tent simply pops open the second you release it's retaining straps. Then all you do is peg it down. Brilliant, right?

Setting up the ingenious Moontent is easy as 1,2,3!

Moontent

New: Now available in blue

Weighing only 2.5kg, with a pack size of 50cm, the Moontent is supremely portable. Featuring solid fibreglass core poles, waterproof outer (in 1000mm waterproof* taffeta), and integral groundsheet, the Moontent will keep you and maybe a companion as snug as bugs in rugs. Plus the skin has been treated to offer UPF50 sun protection, so it’s perfect for a children’s beach shelter.

Unlike some self-pitching tents, the Moontent is free from spring-loaded sliding catches, so you won't trap your fingers when it boings open. Even a first time camper can erect one in a couple of minutes - ideal if the rain starts pouring unexpectedly.

Moontent

50cm - tiny!

Just think, with a Moontent you won't find yourself in some Fear Factor-style pickle, surrounded by poles with a faceful of fabric. Putting up the Moontent is easier than pulling your pants up. And if you're on a campsite you can laugh at fellow campers from the comfort of your Moontent as they make total Terry Scotts out of themselves.

In fact, talking of proper carry ons and camping, isn't it time you stopped messin' about and ordered a Moontent er…tent!

The tests also include checks for any MAC amines in azo dyestuffs and allergy-inducing dyestuffs.

I really want one of these tents for a festival in croatia, however I was just wondering how easy it would be to fit it into a hand luggage case. Is it bendy when folded away? Can it be squeezed into a small suitcase? the measurements are 50x40x20.
Steph, Leicester - 18th April 2012
Firebox says: It measures about 50cm in diameter, so may fit!
Good tent, easy to setup and pack up. It can take the rain but not a constant heavy downpour (learn't from experience). Overall I can't pick any faults and its worth getting for a summer tent.

Firebox says: Great to hear Ben!
Do not buy! Waste of money. It is not waterproof (even after spraying it with fabsil). It does not stay up in the wind. It collapses under its own weight even with the guide line taut. I bought this because of its packed size. This is the first tent that I have bought that I have not actually bought back with me due to it being a pile of tosh.
Andy Moore, Telford - 20th July 2011
That see through bit at the back, whats that for? surely ur going to want privacy?...does this tent have a double zip (so I can use a padlock?)...also how many pegs are required (i can see on several reviews that the ones provided are poor)...someone else has said get a tent cover and a ground cover? why? are the ones provided of poor quality too?...im going to benicassim and basically wana know weather or not this is suitable for me and my girlfriend? thanks.
Paolo, Birmingham - 2nd June 2011
Firebox says: There is a window at the back that you can zip up for privacy, it's not suitable for use with a lock and comes with 6 pegs. The test is ‘waterproof’ according to The British Army, however, realistically it is not suitable for torrential downpours that is probably why someone has suggested a ground and tent cover.
The good news: -tent pops up so quickly and easily -unlike most pop up tents it is no trouble to get back in the bag -very lightweight -for a 2 man tent...we got 5 people in there last night :) The bad news: -if put up incorrectly, the tent can fold in in the wind -the pegs are flimsy (it is not difficult to buy better ones) Overall, worth every penny, can't wait for the 3 festivals I've got this summer :D.
Sam, Ulverston - 19th April 2011
Firebox says: Great review Sam!
Is that a see through area near the top? I hope not!
Harry Barnes, Brentwood - 20th February 2011
Firebox says: It can be covered, Harry.
