The AirCurve dock

The AirCurve

Ears are ace. You can hang stuff off them, listen out for carnivores with them, even stick candles in them. What we really love about ears though, is their ability to scoop up the noises of phone calls, music and polyphonic ring tones. It’s almost as if evolution itself was crying out for the invention of brilliant telephone technology to use its ears for. And what we’ve got here is evolution itself – a brilliant new dock for the awesome iPhone that works like an ear to amplify noises for you to relish.

The AirCurve dock

Amplify!

The AirCurve is a dock, but not as you know it. Sure, it’s got a standard Apple USB/30 pin cable port. And yes, you stick your iPhone neatly into the scoop on top. What’s ultimate about this little beauty is that it amplifies all the output of your iPhone using clever air tubes that increase the volume to a satisfying 10 decibels without using any extra batteries or juice.

The AirCurve dock

Like an ear... only better!

Just as the swirls and curves of the human ear guide noise to the brain with a smart configuration of patterns, the AirCurve contains tubular channels that spit out noise with extra oomph, like you’d get with an ancient gramophone horn. This means you won’t be forking out for batteries or sucking ‘leccy out of the sockets when you want to amplify your iPhone. Neat!

The AirCurve dock

The AirCurve charging dock

Pass-through slot for your iPhone's dock cable

Whether you use it as a hands-free speaker, a bedside alarm clock, even a tidy little desktop music station, AirCurve rocks a look that’s never out of place thanks to its gorgeously see-through, weighty acrylic design. Compatible with iPhone and iPhone 3G, it’s more than a match for Apple’s masterpiece of mobile design.

The AirCurve dock

Looks as good as it sounds!

It’s a beautiful meeting of mathematically precise engineering and drop-dead good looks – like the ear itself. But unlike the human ear, we don’t recommend sticking a candle in it or getting your AirCurve pierced in five places. We tried it, and it plays merry havoc with the acoustics. Keep it simple – and get your phone louder, for free!

press review "Place your iPhone atop this intriguing gizmo with its eat-shaped grooves, press play on your handset and marvel as it increases the sound to a satisfying 10 decibels. There are speaker docks a-plenty out there but this one requires no power source."

press review So good-looking it's almost invisible, the AirCurve uses nothing but precision engineering and luck to amplify your iPhone by 10 decibels. So there's no power connector, no annoying LEDs and nothing to go wrong. We here at Format want to daisy-chain 100,000 of the blighters and see if we can break the world."

Firebox says: Unfortunately not.

visitor avatar Okay, I'll ask: have you tried this baby with the 3G S? Any joy?
Stephen, Leicester - Jul '09
Firebox says: Yes and it was joyful.

visitor avatar Great idea! It definately makes your iphone louder. I never hear my mobile ringing when i, m upstairs but with this, I can hear it no problem. Great too when your listening to music.... Its loud but not too loud.
ShazzaD, WISHAW, LANARKSHIRE - Apr '09
visitor avatar In many ways this is great, it definatly amplifies the sound, fits the iphone well and looks pretty cool. However should you want to charge your iphone at the same time you have to pull the cable out through the dock and into your ipod then fiddle about getting the ipod to sit with the dock cable attached its not user friendly. Dont expect to just be able to stick it in and charge it like other docks.
CB, Lancashire - Apr '09
visitor avatar It's rubbish. Yes, it makes it louder, but it's tinny and unpleasant. Completely pointless.
