"This clever device enables you to concert all your old analogue music (such as tapes and vinyl) into digital files that can be added to your MP3 player. You just plug it into your computer and plug your tape or record player into the other side."MSN Tech & Gadgets - May '09

Question, as I've read most reviews but what's not clear is do you get option to put tracks say into Media player and not auto into Itunes.
I can hack having only mp3 files and not Audio files as an end product but I don't use Itunes.
please help?Rudi Meadows, London - Jul '09
Firebox says: It converts your music into mp3 files - from there you can use them in any program you choose, just make sure your computer isn't set up to automatically transfer everything to iTunes.
Question, are the tracks recorded and stored as individual files, or as a block file?Biggles, Pembroke - Jul '09
Firebox says: Individual mp3 files.
I just wanted to say that I got the EZ Converter for my birthday, and it's the best present ever! I can finally save all my tapes and records on my laptop computer, as MP3 files. I never thought it possible, but I'm so pleased you guys have made this technology available. I'd recommend the EZ Converter: it's a precious tool for us, music lovers with a few years on our backs.
Thank you!Rosie, Sweden - Jul '09
Cipp, you're so right. Until your cassette player eats your tape or you drop your vinyl. And if your cassette player breaks, they'll laugh you out of Curry's if you went in asking it to be fixed. Then that music's lost. You smash your mp3 player, it's an irriattion, but the music's backed-up on your computer. Firebox are offering products for people caught between two generations of technology, something that people have been asking for for years i. E. Can our computers rip music from obselote formats before the old technology is completely gone and can't be repaired. It's actually a comfort to know that your childhood nostalgic stuff isn't lost and that you can still sing-a-long to that tasteless rubbish that you used to like as a kid. Apologies for another question rather than a review but will this product still convert the music if I use a cable that connects from the headphone jack and splits to the left & right inputs? (Sorry don't know its name. ) I ask this because I have an integrated amplifier cassette deck so there are no outputs. Cheers.Hugo Grubb, Bournemouth - May '09
Firebox says: Yep, this should be fine!
Sorry this is another question! I am planning on buying the U Record Music Converter to use with my MacBook Pro but as I have long since discarded my twin deck cassette recorder will I be able to play the tapes from my personal stereo tape player using the headphone output socket?Carole MacIntyre, Isle Of Islay Scotland U.K. - Aug '09
Firebox says: Should do!
Wow, this is awful. Nearly all ION products use this dreadful Audacity freeware. While the hardware is excellent, you will be more than a little disappointed with the software (you can download it free, so take a look for yourself). Why ION can't just make hardware that outputs MP3's is beyond me. The Ion turntable with built in CD recorder drive is the only way to convert a record collection of any size. Since you don't need software. Shame that it is over £300 quid though.Carl Moreira-Smith, Hampshire - Mar '09
Firebox says: Hi Carl! Actually the U Record includes both EZ Converter and Audacity software, both do the same job, so it’s up to you which one you use. EZ Converter is created by ION and is a much easier software programme that you can use to convert your music. It’s really as easy and simple as one, two, three, even automatically uploads to your iTunes Library. ION have been developing in-house software since 2006 to make it much easier to convert Vinyl/Cassettes to MP3 and this U Record has the latest version. Hope this clears up any worries you may have!
So what you're saying is, as long as I have the original obsolete tape/record AND the original obsolete technology to play that obsolete tape/record on I can put it on my Mac OR PC. Whoopdeedoo. Why would I have 'heaps of music languishing in the loft' if I still had the means to play it? I know you guys can sell coals to Newcastle and I have bought some crap from you in my time, but this is taking the pis*. You should advertise it as, "Do you have some music AND the ability to already listen to it? Well, for only £49. 95 you can convert it to PC format and listen to it on the tinny speakers of your computer. It's a boon. ".Cipp, Oxford - Mar '09
Firebox says: We just thought carrying around your iPod is easier than carrying around your old vinyl record player, Cipp, apologies to have caused offense!
