Minoru perches on monitor

Perches perfectly on your monitor

Despite what most webcams would have you believe, the world around us is not flat. It’s 3D, innit? And that’s precisely why the idiot-proof Minoru 3D Webcam is such a groundbreaking gizmo. In fact it’s the world’s first 3D webcam!

Capable of creating a mind-blowing stereoscopic effect, this USB-friendly camera will have you and your online buddies cowering behind your keyboards in awe as noses, fingers and anything else you’d care to thrust forth are given genuine depth and incredible reach-out-and-touch realism.

Setting up the Minoru

Follow on-screen instructions...

make your adjustments...

pop on your 3D Glasses

Minoru's 3D view!

3D!

Yes, you’ve got to wear a pair of old-school 3D glasses but that just adds to the fun – well we think it does ‘cos they look really silly. Besides, who cares about faintly ridiculous face furniture when friends and family can see you in eye-popping 3D, over messaging programs such as Windows Live Messenger, Skype, AOL Instant Messenger, OoVoo and many more. You can even use this three-legged thingamabob to take 3D photos and shoot 3D videos which you can upload to YouTube.

Minoru 3D Webcam in action

Makes real life look more like real life!

Particularly impressive if you know any long-nosed, spear-wielding dinosaurs, the Minoru (which means ‘reality’ in Japanese) features dual cameras spaced about a face-width apart. Don’t ask why, we’ve been too busy jabbing rubber sharks at ours to bother with the boring techie stuff.

Put your 3D movies on Youtube with Minoru!

Create your own 3D movies!

Speaking of sharks, setting up the Minoru is easier than spotting the bad acting in Jaws 3D – simply attach the cam to your screen using its springy legs, hook up to your PC’s USB port, set the red and blue levels and you’re away. This strange crittercam even has eyes that light up as it watches you in gobsmacking 3D. Cripes!

On the off chance you tire of all this 3D business, the Minoru also functions as a regular 2D webcam. But that’s really rather humdrum, because once you’ve experienced life in the third dimension nothing else will do!

Visitor Reviews...

visitor avatar Over the years, many years, I have had a few stand alone webcams, a few built in laptop webcams and a few stand alone webcams off ebay. About 10 overall. The Minoru in 2D mode is FAR better quality than any of these. Great focus, strangely excellent in low light (from only monitor) and then on top of all that I can use it in skype and msn at the same time. Forget the 3d, this webcam is just excellent!!
Ben McLaughlin, Nottingham - Feb '09
visitor avatar Can you use the 3D webcam on applications such as skype and msn? Or does it only work in 2D on these programs?
Hannah, Harrow, Middlesex - Jul '10
Firebox says: This works with Windows Live Messenger, Skype, AOL Instant Messenger, OoVoo and many others. All work in 2D and 3D.

visitor avatar Can you use normal 3d glasses instead of the ones included?
Olly, London - Jun '10
Firebox says: Yes you can!

visitor avatar Can the webcam be used for an apple mac? is it recommended?
Emma, Essex - Mar '10
Firebox says: Sorry - they are only compatible with PC's running Microsoft Windows XP or Vista

visitor avatar One question, if I were to upload a 3D video(of lets say a cat jumping on you) and I uploaded it to youtube, how could the rest of the world see the 3D part?
Tom, 38 Fowke Street Rothley - Jul '09
Firebox says: If they've got their 3D glasses on!

visitor avatar The webcam works well after careful setting up but the only way I can use it is to uninstall the software and then reinstall it. If I don't I get a message saying that the webcam is in use in another programme but no help is given to help find out where. To make matters worse the Minoru website seems to have vanished into cyberspace. It would be great to be able to feed the output of the camera into the DV-in socket of a camcorder.
Graham, Tring, UK - Feb '09
Firebox says: Hi Graham, Sorry you're having problems with the Minoru! Webcams are notorious for only being able to run with one application at a time. It might be worth checking that you only have Minoru and one other program running at the same time - on windows you can check the applications you have running by selecting 'Programs' when you go to the Ctrl - Alt - Delete menu. The Minoru website is up and running here: http://www.minoru3d.com/ If you need any further help please just give us a call or drop us an email on info@firebox.com.

visitor avatar I love this thing.
Ole Bendtsen, Denmark - Feb '09
