Tikitags

A tikitag

Imagine if your business card could swipe open your company website or your teddy bear could open a playlist of nursery rhymes. Or how about if that tacky souvenir donkey from Majorca magically opened up your holiday snaps. It’s easy if you’ve got a few Tikitags.

Set to revolutionise the world of…well, everything, these ingenious ‘swipe-able’ RFID tags are like gateways to the digital world, as they let you associate real objects with specific web pages and applications.

Tikitags

Works with PC and Mac

Confused? You should be because describing this, the world’s first commercially available DIY RFID tag kit, is a bit like trying to knit syrup. But that’s hardly surprising because Tikitags have so many potential uses it’s hard to know where to begin.

Tikitags

Here is the science bit. RFID-tastic

Using the downloadable Tikitag software, the idea is to ‘associate’ each Tikitag (ten included) to whatever web page or program you fancy. Then whenever the tag is swiped over a USB-friendly Tikitag reader (one included) it opens the preset application.

The possibilities are endless. You could stick one to an umbrella and swipe it over the reader to bring up a weather site, or associate a Star Wars toy to a suitably nerdy web page or a set of car keys to a dealership.

Tikitags
You could even stick ‘em on your company’s latest products, allowing punters to access further info online, or bung one on your wallet and use it open a spreadsheet detailing your finances whilst ‘If I Were a Rich Man’ blasts out simultaneously.

We think Tikitags are destined to become as ubiquitous as mobile phones, credit cards and other ‘how on earth did we manage without them?’ inventions. Indeed, in a few years time you’ll be reminiscing about how you first read about Tikitags on Firebox. And if you hit the Buy button pronto, you can also boast about how you were using them yonks before anyone else. Swipe-tastic!

visitor avatar My friend got one of these and it was amazing. I would defiantly get one if I could afford it. Great gadget. It would be good if you could sell the extra tags as you have to buy them from the USA.
