USB Negative Scanner

Place your negatives into the film holder...

The great thing about old 35mm photos is that most of us have them 'backed up' on negatives stuffed in forgotten drawers. The bad thing, however, is that most of us can't remember what's on the negatives until we hold them up to the light and squint. And even then it's hard to tell. Enter the truly ingenious USB Negative Scanner.

At the touch of a button this idiot-proof gizmo scans 35mm negatives or slides and converts the trapped images into digital pics. You can then edit, crop and resize them using the included software ready for printing, archiving or just viewing on the big screen. It's like delving into the past without the DeLorean.

How it works...

USB Negative Scanner

Insert the loaded film holder

Choose from various options from the uploaded software

Convert your negative into a digital image!

USB Negative Scanner

The Negative Scanner is powered via USB!

USB Negative Scanner

Now you can upload your old pics!

Using the USB Negative Scanner is a doddle. Simply plug it in your USB port (no mains power or batteries required), slip a negative or slide into the respective holder and push it through. The image then appears on screen. All you do is wait a few seconds for the intuitive software to adjust the back light and color balance and hit scan. Before you can say 'oh gawd, look at me fringe!' you'll have a genuine 5 megapixel piccy on your PC.

USB Negative Scanner

Converts slides too

Compact and sleek, this hi-tech device will save you a fortune at the photo lab and it's so easy to use you'll be converting all those long-forgotten pics in no time: mom and dad's wedding, old birthdays, that vacation where you insisted on wearing a pre-ironic 'N Sync t-shirt; even really old negs of granny in her Sunday best or dusty slides you last viewed on dad's clumsy projector.

USB Negative Scanner

Brush included!

A great gift for mom, dad or anyone who's ever owned a 35mm camera, the USB Negative Scanner is a brilliant way of getting old photos on social networking sites, especially if your best mate had a hairdo like Pee-wee Herman and your emo sister was into Backstreet Boys. Who says you can't turn a negative into a positive?

visitor avatar Considering the price, I think it's a great scanner, perfect for straightforward photos, which most slides from the sixties are! Easy to operate, comes with very clear instructions, rather fast and a whole lot better that scanning slides with my HP5470C scanjet.

visitor avatar Hi all, does the deluxe version take 110 negs as well?
Sam, Heathrow - Jan '10
Firebox says: Unfortunately not, just the VFS-002m version. Sorry!

visitor avatar An individual above says it works with the Mac but only produced 3MB pictures - i'm fine with that. But later you say it doesn't work with a Mac. Is it compatible please as I want to buy one for an XMAS present.
Dave, UK - Dec '09
Firebox says: The VFS-002m is Mac compatible. The Deluxe VFS-004 isn't.

visitor avatar Thinking of getting one for a gift. Do you have to use the negative trays? And at 3 megapixels is the quality good enough to print photos?
Cliona, London - Dec '09
Firebox says: Yes the negative trays or slide holders need to be used. 3 Megapixels will produce good standard sized photos but the Deluxe VFS-004 with 5 Megapixels will allow you to print larger photos too.

visitor avatar Before I buy, do you have a scanner for two and a quarter square and 35mm film.
John Wilson, Scotland - Dec '09
Firebox says: Unfortunately, our scanners do not work with two and a quarter formats. However, the trays will fit 35mm negatives.

visitor avatar Why does it not work with USB 1. 1? Is it a question of power? Would it work with a powered hub?
Tony, Dorset - Dec '09
Firebox says: The USB 1.1 can only handle a limited amount of data at once, which rules it out for the Negative Scanner. A powered hub will work, If it's powered by a USB 2.0 hub, but if it's a 1.1 then it won't work.

visitor avatar I just want to ask a question: Why are my negatives coming out, um, negative? I thought the point of it was to turn negatives in normal photos. When I use the software to capture a pic (with Negative selected) it shows up in the preview as a normal photo, but then when I click capture it appears on my PC as a negative. Am I doing something wrong? I don't want to have to scan all the photos and then go and edit them all to invert them to normal photos!
Dave, Aberdeen - Dec '09
Firebox says: If the scanner is saving files as negatives rather than positives, this is because a small number of the VFS-002m Scanners have shipped with out of date software. This can be resolved by visiting the following website: https://sth-se.diino.com/veho_download_centre/VEHO/VEHO%20-%20Drivers%20and%20Software/Scanners/VFS-002%20Slide%20and%20Negative%20Scanner From here you should download the "Negative Capture Solution (Windows Only).ZIP" and the associated guide for installation "Negative Capture Solution - Step-by-step reinstalling guide.pdf" - following these instructions will solve the problem.

visitor avatar I'm just about to upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 Home Premium - will these products (VFS-02m and VFS-004)be compatible?
Gordon, Kirkcaldy - Nov '09
Firebox says: The VFS-002m is driver-free so it IS compatible with Windows 7 but we can't guarantee the VFS-004 for compatibility

visitor avatar I am after a scanner that does both negatives from a 35mm and 110 - is this the only one that does both? Thanks.
Jane, Barnsley - Nov '09
Firebox says: As far as we know!

visitor avatar Hurry up with the Mac compatible version guys. I've been wanting one of these for ages but until I can get a decent quality on my Mac. I watching this space!!! PS Thanks (-:.
