Wishing upon a star is fine and dandy but the twinkly little blighters are usually obscured by clouds. And that's a shame because starry skies always add a touch of magic to outdoor events, especially weddings.
So how do you add an element of wonder to evening do's and illuminate the night sky without forking out thousands on fireworks? No, you don't get guests to scribble their names in the dark with sparklers. You buy some jaw-droppingly gracious Sky Lanterns.
These enchanting paper blimps are guaranteed to become the talking point of any evening soiree because they climb gently into the night sky like mini hot air balloons. Simply light the special wax fuel cell, wait for a flame to form, make a wish and watch in wonder as your biodegradable lantern gradually ascends to the heavens, glowing as it rises. You can even personalise your lantern with wishes, thoughts or messages of love using a marker pen: 'Thanks for the wedding, dad. The bill's in the post.'
Each flame-retardant Sky Lantern can glow for as long as 20 minutes, travelling for miles and rising up to 1500 metres. For a truly magical effect, why not get a group of friends to light several Sky Lanterns simultaneously? With ten lanterns per box it's easy and the effect is so breathtaking it's not unlike watching Close Encounters and a Pink Floyd concert simultaneously. We guarantee guests will be blown away.
Off the scale in terms of ooh-aah-factor, Sky Lanterns are ideal for countless night time events and they're infinitely more original than noisy fireworks. So what are you waiting for? Make a wish.

I ordered some Sky Lanterns on Monday at noon & they were delivered Tuesday at 9-30am, now that's what I call service! We are going to release them in memory of my son-in-law who sadly passed away 1 year ago, August 25th, aged 34. His 3 year old son thinks his Daddy is on the moon so instead of sending balloons to him we will release the lanterns .... It will be magical!! Many thanks for your prompt service & I will definitely use Firebox again.Mary Anne Parker, United Kingdom - Aug '09
I bought some for a friend's wedding, and they were amazing - they saved a couple to share just the two of them.
I am also planning on letting some off for my first (paper) wedding anniversary - seems highly appropriate, and I am really looking forward to it!Katherine, Andover - Jul '09
We bought these lanterns to release from the top of our local mountain on the evening our baby boy was buried. It really made it such a special day. It was like you could imagine them floating up to heaven. We are buying more to release in memory of him in the future.Amber, Australia - Aug '09
My boyfriend, Chris, and I went to the Big Chill Festival at Eastnor Castle, Ledbury this weekend. They set off lots of these lanterns on Saturday and Sunday at twilight. They kept appearing from all over the site and looked so amazing floating up into the night sky, it made the evenings seem almost magical!
My boyfriend was so taken with them I'm buying him a pack to set off on his birthday! (Actually I'll probably get 2 packs - it's good to have a trial run!).Sammy Mason, Ledbury, Herefordshire - Aug '09
I set 10 of these off on my mum's 60th birthday, and they were just beautiful. Really good fun all getting outside and setting them off, worked like a dream, and a really special moment.Sarah, Reading - Aug '09
Seconds after having read about this product, I read in our local newspaper about the numerous UFO sightings in my area, there where reports that orange glowing objects had been seen floating above gardens throughout Bracknell and Wokingham. It seems that these lanterns are causing a lot of confusion to UFO spotters. Witnesses said that they had seen about ten glowing orange objects floating over their house at about 11 o'clock at night. I'm tempted to buy some just to confuse everyone even more!Bruno, Berkshire - Aug '09
Heed the warning about wind speed! Tried to let one off in a slight breeze and was left with shreds of paper to chase across a field and pick up!!!!!J Edmonds, Swindon - Jun '09
I bought your Halloween Pumpkin lanterns a few weeks ago and set them off at the Halloween party I host for all my friends Kids!! They were fantastic, everyone was cheering and shouting, laughinmg and taking pictures, dunno how I'll top them next yr!! lol.Ann Cochrane, Belfast - Nov '09
I got married on Saturday (19. 09. 09) and had ordered these instead of using fireworks as a bit of something special. They were absolutely magical and were the icing on top of a perfect day. I've since been told that people had come out of their houses to watch them float off into the distance. A friend had 5 members of his family talking about 'UFO's' they'd seen the night before!! Everybody made a wish as they released them and we had a seperate one we released in memory of my husbands mum, very emotional. We saved two which we will let off on our first wedding anniversary. Whoever invented these is a genius :D.Michelle Chandler-Haynes, United Kingdom - Sep '09
Firebox says: Congratulations Michelle! We're glad you loved them too!
We set these off at a friend's wedding. They were beautiful, serene, haunting and a perfect way to end a fantastic day. Imagine our surprise when the local newspaper published an article about reported UFO sightings ("several round balls of fire") on that evening!Ellie, Thetford - Aug '09
