Sky Lanterns
Wishing upon a star is fine and dandy but the twinkly little blighters are usually obscured by clouds. And that's a shame because starry skies always add a touch of magic to outdoor events, especially weddings.

So how do you add an element of wonder to evening do's and illuminate the night sky without forking out thousands on fireworks? No, you don't get guests to scribble their names in the dark with sparklers. You buy some jaw-droppingly gracious Sky Lanterns.

Sky Lanterns
These enchanting paper blimps are guaranteed to become the talking point of any evening soiree because they climb gently into the night sky like mini hot air balloons. Simply light the special wax fuel cell, wait for a flame to form, make a wish and watch in wonder as your biodegradable lantern gradually ascends to the heavens, glowing as it rises. You can even personalise your lantern with wishes, thoughts or messages of love using a marker pen: 'Thanks for the wedding, dad. The bill's in the post.'

Sky Lanterns

10 x Lanterns

Each flame-retardant Sky Lantern can glow for as long as 20 minutes, travelling for miles and rising up to 1500 metres. For a truly magical effect, why not get a group of friends to light several Sky Lanterns simultaneously? With ten lanterns per box it's easy and the effect is so breathtaking it's not unlike watching Close Encounters and a Pink Floyd concert simultaneously. We guarantee guests will be blown away.

Mine imploded and burnt up during launch.
Chris, Devizes - 19th September 2011
Firebox says: Sorry to hear that Chris. Drop us an email to info@firebox.com with a few more details about your order and we will see how we can help you out.
Can you paint with water-based acrylics or watercolors on these? Can very light-weight "appendages" be attached (with glue), if in proper balance, and still fly? Can these be tethered if the person holding on walks at the pace the lantern is moving horizontally?
Rene, Flagstaff, Arizona, US - 25th July 2011
Firebox says: They're not really designed for additional decoration Rene, also we'd be wary of anything flammable.
Thanks Firebox for your reviews- they answered a number of questions. I am so yearning to try your product!! You replied to one query that balloons were not biodegradable...NOT TRUE! Latex balloons, at least the high quality Qualatex ones ARE 100% BIODEGRADABLE. Thanks! Marie.
Marie Mandoli, Palo Alto California USA - 11th May 2011
I bought a pack a couple of months ago and have just started using them now. Whilst it does look pretty when the lantern rises up into the sky, it is best to choose an evening with a light breeze for a smooth ascent. However the claim that the lantern can last for up to 20 minutes is unjustified as I have averaged 3 launches at 4 minutes or so before the flame is extinguished.
Andrew, NW London - 18th April 2011
Quick question - with regards the 'don't use within 5 miles of an airport', does this also apply to military air bases? We've got a lot of these in our area and I just want to make sure the lanterns won't annoy the RAF.
Helena, Swindon - 1st April 2011
Firebox says: It's probably not a good idea to be honest, we'd not recommend upsetting the RAF!
I've seen these being used, and they do look lovely. However... I've just been out into my garden to pick up what looked like a plastic bag which blew in on the wind, only to discover after I'd grabbed it that it was burning in my hands. Yep, it was a sky lantern. I dropped it and stamped it out, fortunately without injuring myself, but it's left me with two questions for Firebox. First, do you advise using these in built-up areas? And if not - since you've also ruled out farmland and the coast - where exactly *do* you think it's responsible to use them?
Richard, Edinburgh - 20th February 2011
Firebox says: Sorry to hear that Richard. Provided that the right safety instructions are followed the lanterns should burn out long before reaching earth again.
