Looking at their puny price tag we can think of no good reason why you wouldn't want to invest immediately in a set of Solar Lanterns (unless you haven't got a garden, a patio or even a windowsill, in which case you probably stopped reading about four paragraphs ago). In fact along with a few beers, a good barbecue and a warm summer breeze, Solar Lanterns are destined to become this year's garden must-haves.

On one hand these are brilliant. They took a while to charge properly but we now have two in the garden and one in the conservatory. They come on automatically each evening and really add to the atmosphere. The colour changing lanterns are brilliant and it's a shame they don't let you just order a whole set of these! Still the red ones are nice.
The only problem is that of 6 lanterns, only 3 actually work. I read some of the other reviews warning of some dodgy lanterns and thought I'd take a risk. Sadly the QC of the manufacturer doesn't seem to catch a large number of faulty lanterns / solar panels. Would recommend that this is improved upon as they're great products otherwise.Daniel Watts, Cambridge - 1st June 2011

Immediate response from Firebox re: weather resistance of lanterns (basically, give them a try outside and if there's a problem Firebox will sort it) - have never experienced such amazing customer service! Thank you Firebox. Visited friend this weekend and saw the lanterns in situ in her conservatory where they twinkle very happily! Despite assurances she's decided to keep them indoors for now (gale force winds forecast for today!).M. Casey, Cumbria - 23rd May 2011
I bought some of these 2 years ago and I've just got them out to hang round the gazebo for the 3rd summer! I've left them out in the rain and wind for months at a time, they still work! Have had to make some repairs to them, the tops aren't as robust as they would seem! Great product and when these ones finally give up the ghost, I'll be buying some more! :0).Louisa Maskell, Ottershaw, Surrey - 19th May 2011
Firebox says: Great to hear Louisa!
Bought these as a birthday present for a friend. Disappointed to learn that although in the product description it says "You can forget about clambering around in the wet when the great British summer comes a-calling because Solar Lanterns are weatherproof" (one of the deciding factors in buying them), according to my friend, in the instructions that came with the lanterns it says to keep them out of rain and strong wind - not a lot of use in a British summer then!M.Casey, Cumbria, UK - 10th May 2011
Firebox says: Sorry to hear about your disappointment. According to our supplier this really refers to serious storm weather, and relates more to potential damage if they fall or get hit against something. By all means get in touch via info@firebox.com and we can help resolve this for you.
Do they work with the lights on ?Mitch, England - 27th February 2011
Firebox says: They need direct sunlight to charge Mitch.
I have now received a new set of batteries from Firebox as well as a complementary single lantern. Well done Firebox!Bob McNair, Renfrewshire - 23rd October 2010
Firebox says: Thanks Bob. We aim to please!
These came well packaged. When my wife took them out of the box there was one which was coming apart at the top. We charged them all for 8 hours and put them outside. They lasted about 20 minutes. I am not pleased with these lanterns at all.Bob McNair, Renfrewshire - 30th September 2010
Firebox says: Sorry about that, you must have received a faulty batch. Please email us at info@firebox.com and we can arrange for a replacement to be sent out. Honestly, it's a great product!
