Powermonkey

Charges just about anything!

"Hold on a second, my battery's about to g..." We've all been there and it's infuriating, isn't it? But it's not just mobile phones that have a habit of running out of juice when you least expect it; this is the age of the portable gizmo and PDAs, PSPs, iPods and digital cameras all require power. So what do you do when your battery's kaput and you're nowhere near a power source? No, you don't start thrashing your phone with a branch, Basil Fawlty style; you reach for your PowerMonkey.

Powermonkey

The blue PowerMonkey eXplorer

PowerMonkey is a sleek little gadget that provides hours of extra power for portable devices. Think of it as a back-up battery that, once charged, holds its power without leakage for up to a year. Simply plug it into your gizmos and let the juice flow. You'll never be caught out with a dead battery again.

Powermonkey

Use the power of the sun to charge the PowerMonkey!

There are two kinds of PowerMonkey, the solar-powered eXplorer and the mains-powered Classic but both models come complete with all kinds of adapters, so you can fire up virtually any device imaginable. The eXplorer even features water-resistant rubberised casing, a folding solar panel and a handy LCD screen that displays remaining charge - ideal for adventurous eco-types who won't be near an AC socket anytime soon. When you want some more portable power just leave it to soak up a few rays.

Classic V2 available in Purple, Silver and Black

Speaking of sockets, both PowerMonkeys come with a universal mains adapter so you can charge 'em up in over 150 countries. You can even use a USB port to juice up your Monkey. They really have thought of everything. In fact when it comes to essential travelling companions, PowerMonkeys are liable to oust fresh pants and toothpaste because they're always on hand to provide emergency power when you need it most. Take four bulky chargers on holiday? No thanks.

Press Reviews...

press review "..if battery life alone is your top priority then the PowerMonkey is hard to beat.."
iPad & iPhone User - Aug '10
press review Sunshine, one thing we don't get a lot of in the UK, meaning solar powered chargers might seem as useful as a condom machine in a lesbian bar. But neigh, and especially when travelling, forget your old school power adaptor, pack this little blue power pack away and your phone, PSP, PDA or iPod will be just as thankful to catch some rays as you will be."
Attitude - Jul '09
press review "Phones, iPods, PSPs - all of these can be juiced up by this gadget. Let it accrue some charge in the sunlight via its solar panels, jack it into your phone and you'll never lose your mates in Trash City again."
NME - May '09

visitor avatar Hi HTC Passion(Google Nexus One). Can it charge that ? Sandy.
Sandy, Auckland - 27th November 2011
Firebox says: Hi Sandy, you should be able to connect it using the Micro-USB adaptor. I hope this helps!
visitor avatar Hi there, Will this charge a laptop and if so for how long? I have a Lenovo T60 Also will it work on portable dvd players?
Kevin, Edinburgh - 25th September 2011
Firebox says: Hello Kevin! We would not recommend using this for a laptop as the power required will not be enough. With regards to the portable DVD player, it should work but this is Dependant on the power adapter required.
visitor avatar Does this work with the Samsung Ace? I'd love to get one for my mum who needs it!
Emily, England - 22nd September 2011
Firebox says: It certainly does! You'll need to use the G600 tip which is included in the box.
visitor avatar Is the power monkey compatible with the HTC Flyer?
Alistair, Leicester, England - 4th September 2011
Firebox says: The microUSB input should work just fine Alistair.
visitor avatar Joey that is exactly what I need it for! See you there! Central Yorkshire in Örnsköldvik. Firebox, can you buy the solar panel separately if you need it in the future?
George, Leeds - 16th July 2011
visitor avatar OMG the explorer is just what I need & so do my mates. We are joining 4000 UK scouts at Jamboree Sweden in 2 weeks and worried about staying connected whilst in the wilds. I need to persuade others in our team (36 of us) to buy as I am sure that just one (mine !) will not be enough. Could you offer a multiple buy deal ? I'd be happy to give feedback on my return and spread the word.
Joey, Solihull - 10th July 2011
Firebox says: Perhaps Joey, maybe give us a call on 08449221010 or drop us an email with the quantities via info@firebox.com.
visitor avatar Is there a port to plug a USB into, or an adapter to charge an ipod shuffle?
George Jewitt, Leeds, UK - 5th July 2011
Firebox says: Unfortunately not for the shuffle, but it does have a USB connection George.
visitor avatar What do I do when I've lost my iPhone charger tip? Silly me. It does fall off fairly easily. Now quite bereft without my power-charging ability!
Sarah, United Kingdom - 2nd June 2011
Firebox says: Check the post in a few days Sarah, hope it helps!
visitor avatar Does this come with a USB adapter for cameras? And also for the solar panel can it store power then charge your gadget or does your gadget have to plugged in when using the solar panel?
Rachel, Reading - 29th May 2011
Firebox says: They come with a range of adapters Rachel, and can store solar power, so no need for the sun to be out!
visitor avatar Will this charge a Nintendo DSI XL? Also will it charge an iPad?
Shannon, Edinburgh - 18th May 2011
Firebox says: It will charge the DSi, but you need to buy a separate connector from the manufacturers. It does not charge iPad.
