The hi-tech Senz's asymmetrical, self-positioning shape means that the wind simply flows over its eye-catching canopy. What's more, its distinctly abnormal shape gives you better visibility as you walk through the rain.
No chance of poking anyone!

This smart umbrella really is a godsenz (see what we've done there?) for anyone who wants to avoid arriving at their destination looking like a drowned rat. And unless you're some kind of drip, that means you. So hurry up and hit Buy. It won't blow you away but you know it makes Senz!

"...for we Brits the Senz is the most important invention since queuing and quiet indignation.."Smartlife International - Feb '08
"Eye-catching (in a design sense...) and practical, this umbrella is an engineering marvel. The only surprise is that it has taken so long for someone to reinvent such an everyday object."Daily Telegraph - Nov '07

After getting drenched head to toe in a very heavy thunderstorm on the way to my guitar practice - I decided to buy an umbrella. I came across the Senz on FB and thought it was a very good idea so I ordered the full size version.
Well, lets just say I tested it on the seafront on a miserable day with gale force winds and it didn't flinch a bit ! Ok. . So I accidentally pressed the fold-up button while holding it and had the umbrella close on my head sending my mother into hysterics - it still did as it says, withstood 60mph gales. I now take my Senz with me with pride into town and grin at people when their's turns inside out. Thanks Firebox for this wonderful creation.Ricky, Brighton - Jun '09

Many a time I have walked up the hill to school with my umbrella and suddenly comes a big gust of wind and all eyes are on you because you are stood there, cars pipping at you because your stood in the middle of a footpath/driveway and your brolly has turned inside out. VERY EMBARRASSING !! Soo I guess this Umberella is very Senzible (see what I did there) Lol. I am going to click that Buy Button Right Now. ! :D I hope these brollies take over the world !!!Caroline, Around :D - Dec '08
Bought a couple of these from here, used them fine a few times, then one got a bent spoke for no obvious reason. Fair play to Firebox, they replaced it FOC very quickly, so thanks to them for that.
Having now read these reviews, I'm not convinced that it's as tough as the manufacturers claim, but it's definitely better than other so-called tough umbrellas I've used.
You do get some funny looks, but at least you have some confidence that it'll cope with fair amounts of wind.Eric, Edinburgh - Jul '09
I was a bit tentative about leaving a review after firstly, the more public embarassment of recommending this product to not only my friends and family, but to work colleagues, general passer-byers who would black hole my walk (with their open mouths) at the odd shape and general other strangers all for it to let me down.
Then I saw Steve in Birmingham's review and felt a little at ease-it isn't just me that has a problem!
I bought the 'compact' version in the thinking that the larger variety would one day be bought to bung in the boot and this one could quite happily nest in my handbag to avoid past experiences of going through 5 umbrellas in as many days...yes, 5...good old yorkshire weather!
Now, seriously, I know I put alot of faith into the product...but too right at nearly thirty pounds, with a 'red dot design award' to its name (my sister being in the design industry), and claims of withstanding gales up to 40mph...lol
mine blew inside out...as I held it as Steve mentioned, loop attached to my wrist, protectively grasping it in a 'claw'-type way, yet still allowing the umbrella to do its thing.
Also, the lock doesn't now hold after a couple of uses - so it collapses on me!
Now, I know I may seem foolish, but wouldn't one assume, that if it makes such claims, and let's face it-I dont live in a wind tunnel-I live inland, then I would be guaranteed to some degree in regards to the tolerance level and indeed, the life of the product?
And hurrah, I love you firebox...Ive just spoken to a lovely lady and I will be sending mine back for tests, hopefully another will wing it's way to me to restore my faith in senz-kind!! :D.Laura C, Driffield, East Riding Of Yorkshire - May '09

As I'm always having umbrellas ruined by the wind, especially on my regular jaunts to good old windy Blackpool where the ocean gusts on the Prom are more than a a match for any brolly, I ordered the Senz. I was a bit worried about how pricey it was but thought if it lasted it would be worth it, so went ahead and ordered it from Firebox.
Pity I did - it's rubbish. Yes I'm sure it's very strong and no the wind hasn't managed to turn it inside out, but it doesn't really matter because it's utterly useless in the rain. The dynamic shape means it's so short on one side that half of you is simply barely covered to half of you ends up soaking wet. And it might withstand strong winds, but I assumed there'd be some sort of free rotating hinge so you could hold tight to the padded, grippy handle, but there isn't. Instead the instructions say you have to hold the handle only very lightly to allow it to twist around to face the direction of the wind. But that's useless because it makes it uncomfortable to hold (why include a padded grippy surface if you can't grip it tight) and of course if you hold it lightly to give it room to move, it simply gets blown out of your hand!
It's a nice idea but it's not big enough to protect you properly (and I have the larger version not the mini version which must be even worse) and the lack of any sort of swivel hinge means you can't hold onto it in the wind! Clutch it and it'll fight against you and not move with the wind. Hold it lightly and it'll twist with the wind alright, but right out of the hand!
Sorry Firebox I love you but this product isn't worthy of you - a huge disappointment.Steve B, Birmingham, UK - May '09
I was bought this as an xmas present. The first time I used it. . The wind caught it as I was opening it, and turned it inside out. But, it didn't break, like a normal umbrella would have done. However, I don't think the umbrella is suitable for city streets. Because of it's strange shape, and the fact that it turns in the wind, it's very difficult to walk around without hitting other people with it as it turns! Also it's designed for wind only coming in one direction. Which doesn't help if you're walking round buildings and the wind suddenly changes direction as you turn a corner. The umbrella has turned inside out a couple of times as a result and now one of the metal spokes is broken, just 6 months after I got it :(.Susan, London - Jul '09
Firebox says: Sorry to hear that Susan! If you could send us an email (info@firebox.com) we can sort out a replacement for you.
I tend to agree with previous reviews. I expected much more from this umbrella given its price but at least to be as good as my old umbrella. I had a 'compact' version since it fits nicely in all my bags, but the life of the umbrella was just about a week - not so strong wind gust, umbrella turned inside out and now its spokes are broken :(.Anton Korobeynikov, Saint Petersburg, Russia - Jun '09
