Action Camera ATC-5K:

The new Action Camera ATC-5000 now has a 1.5": LCD colour screen and a wider viewing angle!

Action Camera

Films underwater! (Eek!)

Handheld video cameras are great, but as the name suggests you need to hold them. With your hands. And that's fine when you're recording dad dozing, baby crawling and the best man making a fool of himself. It's not so great, however, when you're biking it downhill, snorkelling with sharks, whooshing down the piste, or holding three pints in one hand and a bag of pork scratchings in the other.

Action Camera

Handlebar Cam!

That's why you need one of our ingenious Action Cameras. Completely idiot-proof, these compact digital video cameras are ideal for all you adrenaline junkies and underwater Punch & Judy operators, as they have been designed for hands-free use and are waterproof up to 10 feet. Simply mount 'em on your helmet, handlebars, whatever, and you're away. As long as you remember to look where you're going you'll soon be capturing oodles of action-packed, POV, MTV-styley footage, complete with quality sound.

Action Camera

New ATC-5K: see what you're recording!

If you go for the ATC-5K you can watch the action immediately, exactly as you saw it, on a built-in 1.5" LCD colour screen. Plump for the ATC-3K and you can view your radically bodacious stunts (read stag night shenanigans) by plugging into your PC, Mac or TV. Overdubbing the soundtrack with a suitably up-tempo metal anthem is entirely up to you.

Each camera features 32MB of onboard memory, expandable to 4GB via SD card, so you can capture several takes as you attempt to master that black run, navigate those rapids, search for that lost penny at the bottom of the pool, or chat up that babe with the mesmerising, erm, eyes.

Action Camera

SD Card slot to store your videos!

USB Port to transfer your videos!

RCA Connector to playback your videos!

Action Camera

Now includes a Webcam Stand!

Shock resistant, these sturdy cams are built to withstand all manner of foolhardy hobbies, come rain, dirt, snow, shine or brine. And thanks to a 640x480 VGA CMOS sensor, picture quality is cracking. Okay, so the resolution isn't up there with top-end Harry Bigbutton vidcams, but would you really want to strap one of those to your head whilst playing silly buggers in a kayak? Exactly.

Action Camera

Easy to use LCD display

The ATC-3K features a generous wide angle 48° lens, but if you want to shoot serious fancypants footage, go for the ATC-5K and its all-encompassing 53° lens. Armed with this luxe beast you'll capture a decent slice of the action and a shot of the point-and-giggle brigade laughing as you go for a burton. Maybe.

Action Cameras

(L-R) New ATC-5K and the ATC-3K

We've been looking for a decent action cam for ages and these babies are the first ones that cut the mustard in terms of quality, price and usability. Their additional sub-aquatic abilities make 'em must-haves. So hurry up and get ordering before everyone's wearing one. And... action!

visitor avatar I'm quite interested in getting one of these. I was wondering if it would be ok to use for things like skydiving?
Glenn Hansen, Essex - 14th August 2009
Firebox says: Absolutely! Just make you secure it to something really well.
visitor avatar I was a little dubious of this tiny camera when it first arrived but once powered up and mounted on my bike/cycle helmet I was amazed at the quality of the unit especially for the cost. I am doing the London to Brighton Bike Ride in June and going to record that on it, can't wait, except for the changing of batteries and SD cards. A 4GB card gives you nearly 2 hours of recording. Overall I am impressed with this little gadget and trying to find alternative uses/actions for it as we speak.
Andy Marson, Chelmsford, Essex - 10th June 2009
visitor avatar I spent all my money on this and it was 100% worth it!! The delivery was brilliant! I bought it with the cheapest delivery option and it came the next day in the morning!! I was like :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D I'll be sure to upload some videos I made with it!!
Domingo, Windsor Uk - 29th August 2008
visitor avatar Is the helmet waterproof and will it stay on your head 'cos if I get this I would use it for sailing on my family's catamaran?
Domingo, Windsor UK - 23rd July 2008
Firebox says: Sorry Domingo, the helmet is not included but there is a helmet grip included. It should do the job.
visitor avatar I have just received my ATC3k and I am more than happy with it. What a bargain! The amount of extra bits you get to mount the camera are ace! Tried it this morning on the way in to work from inside the car mounted on the window screen. The noise was terrible saying it was inside the car the microphone picked up the road vibration through the glass so the audio is not usable. However the picture was excellent. I recorded for about 35 - 40 minutes and the video size was 936MB. I haven't tried it on my motorbike yet but I imagine the audio will be worse but tbh the picture makes up for it. The build quality of the camera is very good too and the water seals seem adequate. Overall great camera for the money and I would recommend it. I have been using a microSD card in an SD adapter and it works fine. Although this is not a support method according to the manufacturer. It work though! One thing to note, remove the SD card to transfer the movies off its far too slow to transfer via the camera.
Catherine, Manchester - 27th June 2008
visitor avatar Good little camera for its size, BUT sound quality is awful. If you are going to use it for dubbed footage, than it's ok, but there is no option for an external mic. SD card is a must (the bigger the better).
Will, York - 16th June 2008
visitor avatar Can you rewrite over the card while using the camera, I want to use it on my bike as evidence if I get into an accident, too many nuts out there... cheers.
Alan, Ireland - 31st October 2007
Firebox says: I'm afraid not Alan, you can only record on the the empty space on your card. Maybe keep a spare card handy?
visitor avatar How long can you film for with a 2gb sd card?
Andy, Uk - 16th September 2007
Firebox says: Hi Andy, it will store around 60 minutes of footage to a 2GB memory card at maximum resolution (640 x 480) at 30 fps (frames per second).
visitor avatar I bought this camera for a paintballing session in Bawtry, nr Sheffield. Unfortunately, the helmet bit was missing when I ordered it so I couldn't get any video to post on the site. I called Firebox and told them the situation and the next morning the missing part was delivered in the post. Excellent customer service. Thanks guys, I'll make sure I go paintballing again soon and send some clips to you.
John Bull, Milton Keynes - 4th July 2007
visitor avatar Great little camera, user friendly, used it on the theme park rides, works well, although the sound quality is poor. Agree with other user's, if you could review the footage after use, then you wouldn't risk having just sky/ground shots. More extreme use planned in our impending OZ trip!
