"Happiness is not in the mere possession of money; it lies in the joy of achievement." Franklin D. Roosevelt said that, and he could well have been talking about Money Maze. Not that America's 32nd President had time to mess about with fiendish puzzles. He busied himself with more pressing matters such as the Great Depression and WWII.
But it's just as well he was pre-occupied because Money Maze is one of the most infuriatingly addictive puzzles in history. Looking a little like a transparent Borg starship (or, if you're not a complete geek, a see-through cube), Money Maze is a puzzle with a highly amusing twist. The idea is to put money, tickets, gift vouchers or any other paper-based present inside and laugh as recipients go nuts trying to get at their gift. Hilarious!
We're not telling you how to solve Money Maze (of course we've cracked it) but it involves maneuvering a steel ball through a labyrinthine maze by tilting the cube. If you think that sounds easy, it's not. We've seen grown men (ok, us) reduced to tears trying to open this devious block - and there was only a buck inside. Oh yes, did we mention you can put coins in there as well? Actually, if it fits in the slot, you can put whatever you like inside Money Maze. As long as the recipient covets it, it's funny.
Indeed, putting gifts inside Money Maze is infinitely more amusing than slipping a few notes in a birthday card. It's your cash so make 'em work for it.
Flummoxed recipients might be tempted to take the direct approach and smash Money Maze to smithereens with a heavy object. But then they'd be unable to use it again. And that would be a shame because as well as being a brilliant way to give money, tokens and tickets, Money Maze is a fist-bitingly annoying puzzle. The root of all evil? I didn't have a clue what to get my brother for his birthday so gave him some cash inside this maze.... It was hilarious watching him get frustrated trying to complete it. I've since bought more to give as Christmas presents.... It's a fab idea and makes giving money as a gift a much less boring option!!Tammy, Milton Keynes - Nov '08
My friend wants vouchers for her birthday next week so I bought her this put to the vouchers in - make her work for it! Of course, I had to test it before giving it to her, and my mum and I both completed it relatively quickly (I think). My dad on the other hand got extremely annoyed and gave up. If it had not been a present for my friends I think he may well have thrown it in frustration to try and break it open.
A great find for firebox.Nicola, Surrey - Apr '07
This is a great product. It's great since you don't know what to get them and just giving the money would be too easy, so make them work for it!!Istiak Siddiqui, London - Mar '07
I bought this as a present for my boyfriend and put 6 Nations Rugby Tickets in it (another part of his birthday present). The air was blue, and threats of a hammer were mentioned.... . But eventually the tickets were won and we go to Twickenham on Sunday! A great way to add suspense to tickets that otherwise look so boring in an envelope!Kim, Aylesbury - Mar '07
My friend wouldn't tell me what they wanted for their bday so I thought I would get my own back using this. It was so funny watching them try and get the money out of it.Simon, Stowmarket - Jun '07
Hi Firebox, is the trapdoor spring mechanised.Firebox says: Yes the door has a small spring inside which is used to lock/unlock the door. When it comes to solving it...well you will just have to find out for yourself!

My daughter has a nasty habit of finishing the maze and putting my cigarettes in there. She's clever, but when I set out to satisfy my craving, I'm not too happy!Ginger, London, England - Aug '08
Now before I put a precious T in the park ticket in this for a friend - is there ANY way of getting it out again if my other half turns out to be a bit thick and can't?Firebox says: That would cheating Claire! Unless you fancy taking a sledgehammer to it, there is no other way!

I don't get it? How does putting money in the slot stop you getting it out??
Is there a trapdoor thingy that the ball has to unlatch to get it out?
Lee.Firebox says: Hi Lee,
The door is springloaded, so the weight of the ball will cause it to open when it reaches the end of the maze - you can't do this any other way than by finishing the maze, so don't go thinking that you can open it with a screwdriver! It's a lot harder than it looks!
