You are probably wondering what in the blazes a board game like Rumis is doing here at Firebox. Can it play MP3s? Does it fire foam darts? Is it WiFi enabled? The answer is, of course, a resounding no. But you won't give a flying LED once you start playing because this ingeniously thought-out little game is so enthralling you'll be constructing ancient buildings in your sleep.

Rumis Inspired by Incan architecture (no, really) Rumis is so brilliant the braniacs at Mensa have honored it with a Best Mind Game award. And they're not wrong. Because as well as being finger-gnawingly addictive, Rumis (meaning 'stones') sharpens spatial awareness and critical thinking skills. But forget all that pseudo-intellectual stuff; what makes Rumis so absorbing is it practically compels you to play again and again.

Standard Gameboards:
Rumis
Rumis So what's it all about? Well, having received 11 Rumis stones of one color, players must start building an Incan structure one stone at a time (like a real Inca minus the backache). The type of building you erect is dependent on the gameboard you select (pyramid, tower, stairway or wall). The idea is to strategically place your stones in order to prevent opponents from having the most stones visible from above. Construction is limited by the shape and height of the building and by the number of players (1 to 4). When all the stones have been used the player with the most stones visible from above is the winner.

Advanced Gameboards:
Rumis
If all this sounds complicated, it's not. But we'd like to see you try to explain it when you've been bamboozling your brain non-stop for weeks on end. Rumis is perplexing and playable in equal measure.

Rumis Rumis comes with six beautifully designed gameboards (on three double-sided boards), 44 wooden Rumis stones and instructions for variations on the game, including a ludicrously addictive form of solitaire. We guarantee you'll be hooked before you can say Machu Picchu. Rumis: inspired by Incas, played by thinkers!

visitor avatar This game is fantastic! 7 of the blocks are from the "SOMA" cube (http://en. Wikipedia. Org/wiki/Soma_cube) that I loved as a child so it brings back fond memories. The version I just bought has plastic blocks; wooden blocks would be better as they would be heavier. Highly recommended!

visitor avatar Bought this game a few weeks ago and thought I should chip in with my own review after really enjoying playing this. It’s a great 3-D building game – rules are easy to pick up, but winning involves lots of strategic thinking. Agree with the previous reviewers as to the fun and occasional nasty tactics necessary – particularly enjoyed winding up my older brother by constantly outthinking him (makes up for losing all those ‘play’ fights when we were growing up!). Highly recommended for a quality night in.

visitor avatar It’s like a 3D multi-player Tetris. One of those few games that is great for 2, 3 or 4 players. The 6 boards need different strategies. Watch out for the Pyramid board - it can get really nasty, especially if the other players gang up. Recommended.

visitor avatar I really enjoyed RUMIS, we brought it to take on holiday in France. It was great fun and at times nicely competitive. I particularly like it and highly recommend it because there is a bit of tactics, it is straight forward to explain, doesn't take too long to play and is just a lot of fun... and it's good when you win !!!

visitor avatar My husband bought me Rumis before we went on holiday last year with friends. The weather was awful and we were stuck inside for much of the week, Rumis saved us, it was fun and thoroughly addictive and the look on my husbands face when I kept beating him made up for all the poor weather! Highly recommended.
