Here at the Firebox armoury of pretend weapons we like to think we've got it covered in terms of high-tech hand cannons. But then someone mentioned bootlegging and we realised we'd neglected all you make-believe mobsters out there. Because in order to achieve that genuine Prohibition-era vibe you need to be packing heat in the shape of a rata-tat-tastic, Roaring Twenties-style Tommy gun.

And that, dear wiseguys, is where the Tommy 20 comes in. This fantastically amusing foam dart-firing weapon is modelled on the legendary submachine gun (or 'Chicago Typewriter') made famous by mobsters, federal agents and, er, the Ant Hill Mob off Wacky Races.
Okay, so this particular model is made of bright yellow plastic and it looks a bit like something Roger Rabbit might use to shoot up Toontown, but the spectacularly infantile Tommy 20 works just like the original. Sort of..
Featuring a classic drum-style revolving magazine that allows you to fire 20 harmless sucker-style slugs in rapid succession, the battery-powered Tommy 20 is perfect for shooting from the hip, James Cagney-style, and taking out annoying co-workers accidentally-on-purpose. Its brisk barrages are practically impossible to avoid.
In fact, once you're packing a Tommy 20 it's easy to get carried away; why just the other day some wiseguys tried to muscle in on our hush-hush tea and biscuits racket down at the Firebox speakeasy (well okay, the staff canteen), so we made Swiss cheese of 'em in a hail of rubbery darts. Fantasy scenarios aside, we would never advocate using the Tommy 20 for inter-office shootouts - this weapon is for firing at inanimate objects only (we stated, whilst rolling our eyes and whistling). So what are you dumdums waiting for? Last one to order is a doity rat!

Loads 20 bullets!

I got this today, and although its accuracy is horrible and unpredictable, the Tommy 20 redeems itself with an incredible fun factor when you power up the motor and start blasting - and firing 20 shots in quick succession without having to reload is a LOT of fun... my flatmate already fears the approaching sound of my shiny Tommy's menacing hum.
It is also noteworthy that I have not experienced any of the allegedly common jams with this blaster.
Get the refill packs as well, as the darts are easy to lose, and 7 quid for 64 shots is a true bargain and lets you concentrate on the ecstasy of blasting away rather than trying to keep track of where the darts bounce while you're at it.
I love you, Firebox - if only we'd met sooner.Daniel Alles, Hamburg, Germany - Jun '08
A brill dart gun by all standrds, made a bunker at the first landing of my stairs covering the hall and the stair case. None can get past without meeting my demands! If you get a chance BUY ONE!!!Huw M, Shetland - Sep '07
These are brilliant these things. I got the battle pack so me and my buddies regularly have wars (we have 'one shot kill' rules to make sure no one goes Rambo style)! The hum is a tad on the annoying side but you hardly pay attention to it in the heat of battle! Bit of a warning; they aren't built for stelath (if you want that get the rapid rifle or the double shot shotgun) but your buying a tommy gun shaped dart gun...your not gonna expect a silencer. Overall, an incredibly fun toy, use it for full on assaults and covering fire in the great dart wars!
See you on the front line!Ryan Lancaster, Leeds - Jul '07

I have been looking for a good hardy foam dart weapon for ages & now I have one.
When they came I tore the parcel to bits, when the batteries were in me & my cousin Milly let 'em rip!
Great delivery service firebox, they just came overnight!Oscar Peake, London - Apr '07
I love the Tommy 20, when the parcel arrived I tore it to shreds & grabbed the guns I went ballistic looking for a screwdriver & me & my cousin let them rip!
I have lost 9 slugs already but luckily I got the battle pack so there are spares, great delivery service Firebox, they came overnight!Oscar Peake, London - Apr '07
It says on the ad, " super accurate", believe me, I have one and it isn't- but its really powerful...and fast! For accuracy get a rapid fire rifle but if u just want to get 'em quick 'n' fast get this!!!Conor Langan, Leeds - May '07
I bought this for my son for Xmas 06. It is an awesome piece of kit. My only fault is that I didn't buy two. He hides in waiting then ambushes everyone in sight. His favourite victim is his mum. What an absolute joy. A well built toy. Very robust. Great Value for money.Lee, HULL - Mar '07
I got the Tommy 20 battle pack to help keep my 11-year old son and his friends occupied during the summer vacation and it's proved to be huge hit.
The guns are quite solidly-built; they've survived frenetic use by a bunch of kids. They work well, too. The range and rate of fire are both pretty good on new batteries but both drop off noticeably as the batteries run down. (A useful upgrade would be to get the guns to run off C cells instead of AAs. There seems to be room for them. )
Kids playing outside inevitably lose some of the darts but the replacement packs are pretty cheap. Overall it's a very cool toy.Lincoln Rickwood, Norfolk, UK - Jul '10
