Creative Zen Vision:M

New Pink version!

The advances in digital technology are getting silly now, aren't they? Just when you were getting used to the idea of mountains of music on the move, boffins go and shoehorn video capability into the next generation of portable media players. So now, as well as listening to your favourite tunes, you can watch your favourite movies and videos, anytime, anyplace.

But who says you have to go picking Apples to find the best machine? Our good friends at Creative don't because the jaw-droppingly impressive Zen Vision:M does everything the iGods of this world can and more.

Creative Zen Vision:M

Black version

Indeed without wishing to upset the Apple cart, we believe the supremely chic Creative Zen Vision:M is up there with the cream of the competition. For starters, this 30GB pocket-sized powerhouse stores up to 120 hours of video or 15,000 songs, plus tens of thousands of photos. And like all things Creative it boasts an FM radio and voice recorder.

Creative Zen Vision:M Featuring a highly intuitive vertical touch pad with a customisable shortcut button, the Vision:M is a doddle to use and its ultra sleek styling is a pleasure to behold. Talking of looking good, the Vision:M's gorgeous 2.5" screen is one of the best we've seen for its size. Indeed in recent comparison tests, Shaggy looked sharper, Britney looked brighter and Clooney looked clearer.

Creative Zen Vision:M If you're worried that the Vision:M won't support your fave format, worry not. Video-wise this versatile viewer supports WMV9, MPEG1/2/4-SP, Motion-JPEG, DivX® 4/5 and XviD. Music lovers won't be disappointed either, as the Vision:M will play MP3, WMA and WAV. Album art aficionados and fans of digital photography can view things via JPEG (BMP/GIF/PNG/TIFF). Phew!

Of course there's no point having such a capacious, feature-packed player if the power packs up after a few vids. Thankfully the Creative is equipped with a battery that delivers video playtimes of up to 4 hours (doubling the performance of its whiter than white rival) and up to 14 hours with audio. So unless your daily commute lasts longer than the average Lord of the Rings movie (in which case you should be looking for a new job, not a new gizmo) you'll have plenty of juice to spare.

Apart from a set of Ferrari keys wrapped in a wad of million pound notes, we can think of no better object to put in your pocket than the Zen Vision:M. This beautifully-engineered piece of kit does the lot - and it does it for longer. In fact, to buy or not to buy is a complete no brainer. What do you think of them Apples?

My mum is savagely depriving me of my other deck until i've finished my GCSEs, so i thought i'd do a remix of the song 'Harder Better Faster Stronger' by Daft Punk, using my Creative Zen Vision M as the other input instead of my other deck. It's a great little MP3 player, i've got loads of movies and stuff on there to watch in the car if i'm bored, and i listen to it all the time.

visitor avatar Spent a lot of time looking at reviews of the creative and the ipod video, few things I found out that might change your mind. The creative has a better processor for video, the ipod has a max video kbps (Kilobytes per second )of around 340. This means that video looks cool on the screen but slap in the tv out cable and you see a crap picture when blown up to 32' 'the creative can handle up to 1500 kbps almost dvd quality, so for the creative thats like having 60 dvds in your pocket ready to play anywere and blown up to 32'' looks beautiful. To top it all off creative make award winning sound cards for pc's world wide this technology is in your hands, apple make a few pc's that no one ever buys... SO BUY ZEN.

visitor avatar My wife bought this zen vision for me for christmas 05 and I haven't looked back since. At the moment I have five of my fav dvds on it, hundreds of photos and and four thousand songs. Its not often a bloke praises his missus but man she came up trumps with this little beauty. My one is not the vision m but the newer version and my one worry is that I dont see any of them around Dublin so I hope Creative arent going to ditch production of this model as they have done in the past with some devices.

visitor avatar I was all set to buy a video iPod but then decided to scout around for a bit. And was I glad I did that, 'cause I found out about the existence of little-known Creative Zen: M. I'm a visual person so I like my screen crystal clear and the last time I watched a movie in my friend's iPod, the dull colors bothered me. I also had hesitations about having to use iTunes to be able to put files into the iPod. I've owned a Rio mp3 player before and I like the simple drag-and-drop option for adding files. I didn't think it possible, but Creative Zen: Vision M met all my requirements and more. It played most of my music and video files without losing time for conversion! I fell in love with the vibrant, clear screen the moment I turned it on. Plus it's packed with a lot of other amazing features. I am so glad I chose this over the iPod.

visitor avatar This product is amazing!! Every Video I had on the computer transferred without a hitch, as did every last song on my computer. If you're looking for an Mp3/4 player this is definitely the best one out, its battery is amazing and the sound quality will blow your mind I seriously suggest you buy this. The software with it is extremely useful particularly the media source player, and so far everyone I showed it to has been amazed and two of my friends are now buying them rather than the ipod. I strongly suggest you buy this, because... It's just absolutely brilliant.

visitor avatar Well I decided to go against all that is known as Ipod and Apple and picked myself up this particular Zen over a month ago. As of yet I have not looked back. Each day it constantly impresses me and anyone who I show it to. The audio quality is fantastic, and the ease at which you can navigate through the menus really helps. The introduction of Zen's shortcut key really helps as well. Videos look awesome with the screen resolution far surpassing that of an Ipod. The battery lasts longer so you neednt worry about it running out unless your watching a 6hour movie. Should you ever get tired of listening to your songs the FM radio is a great addition. Crystal clear reception with about 32 pre set slots made available. The Voice recorder is also a great novelty item. It records everything in great quality and you can playback there and then. Ive heard pleanty of people complain abuot the lack of compatibility on Ipods for video. Should your Zen ever need to convert a video you wont need any other software than the CD which is supplied. You simply select the file to be converted and Ive found that it took only 2mins to convert a 1. 5GB movie to the correct format. As for transferring movies it goes at lightening speed as well. Theres really no messing about.

visitor avatar Way better than ipod (i've compared both units extensively, so I know i'm talking about) and i'm doubly glad I waited long enough for this. Overall, you get more for the amount you're paying. Main selling point: longer battery life, better video capabilities, good audio too, +other useful features.
Pb, Asia - 4th March 2006
visitor avatar Absolutely the best mp3/media player you can get at this moment! I only hate the fact that when other people see it they ask you what kind of Ipod it is. But at the other side, a few mates of mine wanted to sell their Ipod video immediately after they saw my Vision:M :).
Jelle de Vries, Array - 27th January 2006
visitor avatar This is way better than the iPod Video. As our pre-ipod anticpation t post-ipod video ennui, Creative have given us the best consolation; A much better Video and Music Player. For a start, this comes in a host of colours and it plays loads of differt formats, something which the ipod needs t9 work on. Also Battery life for video is better so this is probably going to be the best mp3/4 of 2006!
