| The last time we went to a trendy art show we mistook the prize-winning exhibit for a trash can and got thrown out for corrupting its unbridled purity with a soggy sandwich wrapper. And arguing that our alleged misdemeanor was in fact an experimental statement juxtaposing genuine litter with pretentious garbage just didn't cut it with security. The point being, we don�t know Jackson Pollock about art. But you needn't know your Rolfs from your Renoirs to appreciate the brilliance of the Paint Your Own CowParade Cow Kit. So what's all this CowParade moo-larkey about then? Well, CowParade is a roving international art show that has been featured in major cities across the globe. Sculptures of cows are decorated by local artists and then displayed in public places such as train stations and parks. The cows frequently feature designs specific to local culture, as well as city life and other relevant themes.

CowParade is the world's largest public art event. From Chicago and New York in 1999 and 2000 to Kansas City and Houston in 2001 and London in 2002, CowParade continues to evolve, not just in size, but in creativity and quality of art. While the cow sculptures remain the same, each city's artists are challenged by the art from past events, inspired by the cultural influences of their respective cities, and moved by their own interpretation of the cow as an art object. CowParade is not meant to be high art, however. It is first and foremost a public art exhibit that is accessible to everyone. Please note:

The 2006 Cow Parade was also held in Lisbon from May to September, after which the cows were auctioned off. We bought a pre-decorated mini version as a souvenir of our time here and were considering buying others as Christmas gifts, but now I've seen yours I've changed my mind.
