Here at Firebox we love carnivals. Sadly they're not quite what they used to be. These days a trip to the fairground involves a muddy slog around local wasteland littered with rickety rides manned by chariot-twirling wideboys doing their darndest to make punters heave. Add to this the heady aroma of fried onions, cremated candy floss and raw diesel and you're looking at a great day out. Not!

Maybe we're reminiscing with rose-tinted glasses, but we remember when fairs were all about colourful carousels, whimsical steam organs and blokes with wax moustaches flogging miracle hair elixir. Or maybe we've been watching too many ancient Dick Van Dyke movies.

The point is, retro-fairgrounds rule. And no carnival would be complete without a good old fashioned Candy Grabber. And it's with this very thought in mind that we ask you to roll up, roll up and feast your eyes upon this gorgeous model.

Yes siree, giving your home or office a hint of Coney Island chic is easy with our fantabulous Candy Grabber because it's every bit as entertaining as the one you fed with cents as a kid. Simply fill it with your favourite grabbable treats, drop in a coin or token and attempt to capture your prize before the whimsical music stops.

The Candy Grabber is just as infuriatingly addictive as you remember and the one-more-go factor is totally off the scale. The difference is you won't have to keep begging your mum for more change - you can play with this Candy Grabber forever. Although this updated version boasts three gleaming joysticks the cumbersome claw still requires some seriously dexterous manoeuvering, and mastering the whole picking up/dropping off process is almost as difficult as knitting candy floss wearing boxing gloves.

The Candy Grabber is brilliant at shindigs as everyone will want to try their luck, especially if the treats inside are worth a good old grab. You can put almost anything in there (within reason) and if your guests choose to use coins you might even make a few bucks. So step right up and grab yours today.

visitor avatar Bought this for my man, he loved it, so do his particularly competitive friends! Think the tune is particularly irritating after a while though & I'd love for you to be able to personalise the song & the outside of the Candy Grabber (just being fussy!) - it's a great gift tho!!!

visitor avatar This is fantastic!! My kids have been having a really good time with the Candy Grabber. After they have had their initial sugar rush you can fill it with other fun challenges. We have used playmobile people and other small toys and it has worked perfectly. A++++++++.

visitor avatar I think it is amazing with the music because it makes it more exciting.

visitor avatar It's fantastic! This very well made candy grabber speaks to my inner child! I can put normal coins in the slot so I'm planing to use it as a piggy bank. Also, if it costs me to get the sweets out, I'll think twice before going for them! ;) I figured that if you fill it with too many sweets it doesn't work so you'll need to put a couple in at the bottom so that there's enough space for the grabber to grab them! It is a lot of fun, but does anyone know how to stop the music or at least turn the volume down? It's making my boyfriend crazy! But maybe that's a good thing as, he doesn't have to be crazy but it helps! By the way, I could cheat by only putting the coin half-way in and then taking it back up again but I would be very BAD if I did... ;).

visitor avatar Wow what can I say!! fab fab fab fab! Speedy delivery, it was even delivered to the actual birthday destination! The sweet machine is a class act...my friends love it. The dentist isn't too impressed but hey...hours of amusement!!

visitor avatar Does anyone know if you put real sweets in this?
Andrew, Runcorn Cheshire - May '09
Firebox says: Yes you do Andrew, unless you're a scrooge!

visitor avatar Hubby got me this for xmas and what a laugh it is. The whole family has got involved trying to get sweets and chocolates from it. Gets frustrating when the time runs out and the grabber already has a sweet!! Used up a big tin of Roses chocolates playing this which is not great for the waistline but oh well! ;-).

Emma, Wrexham - Jan '07
visitor avatar I bought this for a friend for Christmas and he absolutely loves it! Everyone was grabbing at it round the table to have a go and the fairground music brings the mayhem together!
